Patients recovering from invasive surgery may soon be able to relax in style while they're on the mend.

Phyllis Coors, wife of Coors Brewing chief William Coors, underwent a double knee replacement at Neurologic & Orthopedic Hospital of Chicago, hospital officials said today. After the procedure, she spent several days recovering at the Chicago Fairmont Hotel, in what is being billed as the nation's first double knee replacement post-operative recovery at a luxury hotel.

The procedure was done Feb. 11, and Coors returned home to Colorado Feb. 21.

The hospital and hotel coordinated to ensure Coors' recovery was safe, and she had the resources she needed to heal, officials said today.

"Many surgical patients are ambulatory enough a few days after surgery to be able to move out of the hospital to a more residential atmosphere like a hotel," says Michael Phares, director of marketing for the Fairmont Chicago. "We were able to provide (Coors) with the accommodations, the location close enough to the medical center for nurses and therapists to come by."
