Seoul Metropolitan Government is considering building a foreign tourist-oriented medical complex.  The city announced that it is working to establish a medical-tourism complex in Seoul to attract foreign tourists by providing reasonably priced medical treatment, adding that a feasibility study was underway.

The complex will be situated at either the Seoul Medical Center in Samseong-dong, the Seoul Trade Exhibition and Convention in Daechi-dong, or Magok-dong in Gangseo-gu. Private investment will be sought for the construction of the complex, which will provide various medical services such as check-ups, and Oriental medicine and cosmetic surgery clinics.

The government is considering providing incentives to renowned overseas hospitals to attract their participation in this project.

Results of the ongoing study will be announced in April next year.

We have enough potential to draw foreign tourists who seek medical treatment as well,'' said the official. While Korea has world class medical know-how and technologies, prices for medical treatment are relatively cheaper than those in America and Japan.''
