What is Gastric Banding?

Adjustable Gastric Banding is a laparoscopic procedure, a form of restrictive weight loss surgery which is indicated for obese patients with a BMI (Body Mass Index) equal to 40 or more. A Gastric Band is inserted on n the top portion of the stomach.

How is This Procedure Performed?

This procedure creates a small pouch at the top of the stomach which fills with food quickly thus sending a message to the brain that the stomach is full, causing the patient to eat less and thus, there is weight loss over time. What Do I Do After the Procedure?
