Cosmetic surgery in Cape Town owes a great deal to the tummy tuck. Tummy tuck surgery (or abdominoplasty) is done to flatten the abdomen by the removal of excess fat and skin and tightening of the muscles of the abdominal wall. Patients are selected carefully for this procedure as it is a major operation. While the muscles are exposed, they are tightened from the belly-button down to the pubis, giving a favourable contour and long-lasting result. During this procedure, the belly-button will not be moved. What will be removed will be you caesarean section scar and you will be left with a new (longer) scar which is well hidden in a bikini.
A full tummy-tuck is a major surgery. It too is performed under spinal anaesthesia (with sedation), and you will be required to stay in hospital for two to three days. This operation entails the removal of all the skin and fat between the belly-button and the pubic region and the tightening of the muscles from the breastbone to the pubis. Finally, the skin is closed and the belly-button is 'repositioned'. You will be left with a long lower abdominal scar (horizontal) and a small scar within the belly-button. Following a full tummy-tuck you will experience pain, but this will be well controlled with medication. Surgeons in Cape Town are well versed in this procedure and will leave minimal scarring.
You should be able to resume normal daily activity, excluding strenuous exercise, within three weeks. It is advisable to remain in Cape Town for ten days after a mini tummy-tuck, and for three weeks after a full tummy-tuck.
