Body

Tummy Tuck - Abdominoplasty

What is an abdominoplasty?

A tummy tuck or abdominoplasty is the common term with which the surgical procedure to correct a flaccid and protruding abdomen is named. The areas to be treated include the center of the abdomen, and may extend to the whole area between the lower rib cage and the pubic bone or even the sides and the back part. This procedure may include different surgical techniques depending on the result wanted. When the reason for the intervention is localized fat, the liposuction would be the appropriate solution to shape the abdomen.

When we add a large weight loss, these would create an excess of tissue and skin, the tummy tuck removes skin and fat with an incision. The weakened or separated abdominal muscles (diastasis) may also be corrected with an abdominoplasty or tummy tuck.

The results achieved with this surgery do not replace those of a regular workout or of loosing weight with a balanced diet. Even though the results of this procedure are permanent, these may diminish greatly if your weight fluctuates or if your lifestyle changes suddenly.

Am I a good candidate?

The tummy tuck is an adequate procedure for people of any age which are healthy, close to their ideal weight and size and possess a good muscular tonicity. They must not have any diseases that compromise their health nor smoke and have clear and realistic goals to improve their physical appearance.

Recovery Time

Return to work in 2 to 6 weeks. Normal activities can be reestablish in 8 or 12 weeks.

What does the surgery consist of?

During the first consult, any doubts will be answered by the surgeon. Dr. Robles will inform you of all the specifics of the treatment, always taking into account realistic goals and expectations.

Once the patient is ready to go into de operating room, the surgeon will mark the areas that will be treated and then he will take some photos of them to compare the status previous to the surgery with the one after it. After this is done, the patient will be sedated and locally anesthetized. The surgeon will proceed with the incisions. A full abdominoplasty needs horizontal incisions in the area between the pubic hair growth line and the belly button. Both the shape and the size of the incision will depend on how much the body needs to be corrected. Through this incision, the weakened abdominal muscles are repaired, while the fat and skin excess are removed. In case it is necessary to remove any excess skin of the higher abdomen, a second necessary will be needed. When the correction needed is in the area below the belly button, a mini tummy tuck or mini abdominoplasty, which has a very tiny incision, is usually recommended. It could also be done with a liposuction. When excess fat is the only issue, then a simple liposuction may have better results.

Liposuction - Laser and Ultrasonic

What is a liposuction?

Liposuction is the surgical removal of localized or excessive adipose tissue. There are three different types of procedures, the traditional one in which the excess localized fat is suctioned; the second technique uses saline and in some cases local anesthesia previous to removing the excess fat; the third technique is the ultrasonic liposuction, ultrasonic waves are used to melt the excess fat before being suctioned.

These techniques may be used to remove excess fat in areas such as the jowl, neck, arms, chest or breast (gynecomastia), back, abdomen, thighs, gluteus, knees and ankles.

In some cases, the liposuction is the only surgery done, in some others it is possible that other procedures are added, such as face lifts, breast reduction or dermolipectomy. The liposuction is not a technique to deal with obesity or a substitute of a proper diet or workout. Neither is it a treatment aimed at treating cellulites. Nevertheless, this procedure may shape the body where localized fat disproportions the body.

Am I a good candidate?

Adult patients with a relatively stable weight who posses a firm an elastic skin with good muscular tone. It is mandatory that they are in good health, that is to say, they cannot have any disease that may compromise their health or that may harm the healing process. It is also recommendable that they don’t smoke and that they keep a positive attitude towards taking care of their body and appearance.

Recovery Time

Varies according to the technique and the number of areas, as well as the amount of fat to be removed. Back to work in 21 days. Normal activity in 3 or 8 weeks.

What does the surgery consist of?

After having the consult with Dr. Robles and his assessment on your overall health and obtaining his approval for the surgery, you will be able to go into the operation room. Dr. Robles will then mark the areas of your body that you agreed to modify and that he will operate. He will then take some pictures of those marks in order to compare the results together once the surgery is done.

The liposuction is performed by doing small incisions which are hidden by the natural folds of the skin. A small cannula enters into these incisions, and through it, the localized fat is suctioned and extracted from the body. Your body will show improvements once the swelling and the fluid retention wear off. With a proper diet and workout, the weight loss will be permanent; in any case, you need to keep in mind that the results will be altered if your weight changes notably.

Buttock Implants - Gluteoplasty - Brazilian Butt

What is a gluteoplasty?

The gluteoplasty is a surgical procedure aimed at increasing the size and shape of the gluteus. There are several procedures to proceed in this area: some of them are surgical and others non-surgical ones. Within the first group we can find the gluteoplasty which augments the area of the gluteus by adding silicone implants or by injecting fat (buttocks injections).

This area is divided into three different sub-areas: upper, mid and lower gluteus. Even though there are several techniques to achieve the results you are looking for, the upper and mid gluteus will be the areas that most of the interventions focus on.

There are several conditions that require this surgery. Some of the most important are the bilateral gluteus hypoplasia (lack of volume), unilateral congenital atrophy (lack of growth since birth), unilateral acquired atrophy (lack of development before a trauma) and unilateral agenesis.

Taking into account your situation, Dr. Robles will decide the technique (implant of fat grafting) and type of implant he will use. The factors he will consider are the shape of your body, hips, gluteus and the condition to be improved.

The types of implants most commonly used are those of solid silicone or silicone gel. These come in different shapes, usually oval, round or almond-shaped.

Am I a good candidate for the surgery?

The best candidates for this intervention are those people who are in good health and are not affected by any serious disease that may affect your physical integrity or the healing process. Patients should not smoke to avoid any complications. They should have clear objectives and wish to improve their looks, and in order to do that, they must follow all the indications given by Dr. Robles to the letter.

Recovery Time

Back to work in 2 weeks. Resume vigorous activities in 6 weeks.

What does the surgery consist of?

After Dr. Robles checks your health and selects the technique and kind of implant he’ll use, you’ll be ready to go into the operating room. Once in there, the doctor will mark the areas where he will perform the incisions and he will also take pictures in order to compare the results. After doing this, you will enter the OR and then you will be anesthetized and sedated to begin the surgery.

The surgery lasts approximately 2 hours, and it begins with a 2,7 inch incision on the inter-gluteus fold, approximately an inch above the anus. The doctor will try not to surpass the bifurcation of the gluteus, since that would make the incision visible. On top of that the doctor will perform a few stitches to avoid the area to be operated from moving.

Once this is done, the doctor will set a pocket in the gluteus, where he will then place the implants. If the treatment desired is the buttocks injection, then the doctor will first conduct a liposuction from an area of your body, in order to inject it into the gluteus. After completing the surgery, he will start closing the incision carefully. He will also put a tissue adhesive over the incisions.

Butt Lift - Brazilian Butt Lift - Buttocks Lift

What is a Butt Lift - Brazilian Butt Lift - Buttocks Lift?

Buttocks lift is the surgery used to correct the excessive amounts of skin and the irregular form of the gluteus.

This surgery improves the shape and tonicity of the underlying tissues which act as support for the skin and fat. The excess of skin and fat is removed to improve the conditions that appear due to a poor elasticity of the tissues. This treatment may very well improve the condition of the skin with cellulites.

The butt lift surgery is not the best treatment if you want to correct an excessive amount of fat. The appropriate surgery in that case would be Liposuction as long as the skin has a good elasticity and may adapt to the new shape of the body. If this is not the case, then the liposuction and buttocks lift will be recommended.

Am I a good candidate?

In order to be a good candidate, the patient must have a stable and reasonable weight for their height and body structure. Patients must have realistic goals and wish to improve their body shape, with good health and who do not suffer any disease that may compromise their lives or their healing. Ideally, the patient should not smoke.

What does the surgery consist of?

Dr. Robles will mark the areas of your body where he will perform the incisions. He will photograph your body to be able to compare the results after the surgery. Once he’s done that, you will be sedated and anesthetized, in order to begin with the surgery.

The surgery will be specifically designed for you, according to the regions that need to be treated. The Butt Lift - Brazilian Butt Lift - Buttocks Lift reduces the excessive amount of skin and gives a new shape. The type of incision will vary according to the shape of the areas, the extent of the surgery, the patient’s body and any specifications that Dr. Robles decides. A couple incisions on top of the gluteus will be used to remove the excess of fat and skin, and to reposition and stretch the tissues. A mix of liposuction and surgical buttocks lift will be needed to achieve a better shape of your body. The stitches which are supported internally with the underlying tissues will aid in giving your body its new shape. The incisions will be closed with stitches, skin adhesive, or clips.

The new shape of your body will be seen almost immediately after the surgery. Even though you will have bruises and swelling on the area. The quality of the skin will be improved drastically. Although the incision lines will be permanent they are really small and can be easily hidden.

Arm Lift - Brachioplasty

What is an arm lift?

The arm lift surgery is a procedure that remodels the lower part of the arm from the armpit to the elbow. This surgery is focused on reducing the excess skin that hangs from the arms and tightening the underlying tissues that give the arm shape.

Furthermore, each localized fat deposit of the area will be reduced with this procedure and liposuction techniques.

The conditions treated with the arm lift surgery can appear both on men and women, in many cases due to a loss of elasticity of the skin and the close areas. This could happen after a significant weight drop when the stretched skin does not contract again. Some other important factors could be age or family heritage.

In spite of all the benefits of this surgery, this technique does not strengthen weakened muscles.

Am I a good candidate for the surgery?

The best candidates are those patients that have a steady weight and are healthy. They cannot have any diseases that may compromise their health or the healing process. It is also very important that they are non-smokers and that they keep clear and realistic goals to improve their looks.

Recovery Time

Return to work in 2 to 3 weeks. Normal activities can be reestablished in 3 or 6 weeks.

What does the surgery consist of?

Once you’ve had your consult with Dr. Robles, and he’s deemed the surgery necessary, you will be ready to go into the operating room. In there, the doctor will mark the incision lines, and take pictures of the areas to compare the results.

Then, you will be locally anesthetized and sedated, in order to begin with the surgery. Initially, the doctor will make an incision on the lower part of the arm and towards the armpit. Depending on your physical conditions, the amount and location of the excess skin to be removed, the incision may be larger or smaller. If there is an excess of fat, it will be removed by liposuction. The underlying tissue will then be stretched and remodeled with internal stitches. The incisions will be closed with stitches, that may be self-absorbing or not. In those cases that the stitches are not self-absorbing, they will be removed one or two weeks after the surgery.

Calf Implants - Calf Augmentation

What is a calf implant?

Lots of people find it difficult to improve this area of the body with workout. Even when they train, their legs seem thin and without a good shape. In some other cases, a disease may have deteriorated the calves. In these cases, the implant is an alternative to improve the shape and volume of the area.

Implants are made in various sizes and shape, Dr. Robles will help you decide which is the most convenient for your case.

What does the surgery consist of?

After Dr. Robles has approved the surgery and you are healthy you will be able to go into the operating room. Once in there, Dr. Robles will mark the areas where he will perform the incisions and take pictures to compare the results of the surgery.

After that, you will be anesthetized to begin the surgery. An incision will be made on the back part of the knee. Through this incision, the implant will be placed under the muscle or fascia. After this is done, Dr. Robles will stitch the incision. Even though the scar will be permanent, it will be easily hidden by the folds of the body and the will fade in time.

Recovery Time

Back to work in 2 weeks. Resume vigorous activities in 6 weeks.

Body Lift

What is a body lift?

A body lift is a surgical procedure aimed at correcting the excess of skin and the irregular shape of the abdominal area (including the sides and back), gluteus (which may look hanging or with an unwanted look), groin, thighs (inner or outer part, or even both) and arms.

This procedure improves the shape and tonicity of the underlying tissues that serves as support of the skin and fat. The excess of skin and fat is removed to improve the conditions that appear due to a poor elasticity of the tissues. Because of this, the treatment may improve the way a skin with cellulites looks.
The body lift is not the specific treatment used to remove excess skin. Liposuction can do that if the skin has a good elasticity and may get used to the new shape of the body. When the elasticity of the skin is poor, the lifting will be advised in addition to the liposuction.

Am I a good candidate?

This is an appropriate procedure for people with a steady and reasonable weight for their height and body build. The best candidates are those people who have realistic goals and wishes to improve their body shape, with good health and who do not have any kind of disease that may compromise their lives or the healing process. It is also very important that the patients do not smoke.

Recovery Time

Return to work in 3 to 6 weeks. Most normal activities can be resumed after 6 to 12 weeks.

What does the surgery consist of?

After the initial consult with Dr. Robles, and once you have authorized the surgery, you will be ready to go into the operating room. Dr. Robles will mark the areas of your body where he will perform the incisions. After that, he will take some pictures to be able to compare the results after the surgery.

After finishing this step, you will be sedated and anesthetized.

The surgery will be specifically designed for you, according to the regions that need to be treated. The body lift reduces the excessive amount of skin and gives a new shape to the areas treated. The type of incision will vary according the extent of the surgery, the patient’s body and any specifications that Dr. Robles decides.

One of the most common techniques for the body lift of the lower parts of the body uses incisions similar to those of the bikini pattern. In this way, the abdomen, waist, thighs and gluteus will be stretched. A circumferential incision around the body will remove the excess of fat and skin, and will reposition and stretch the tissues. A mix of liposuction and surgical body lifting will be needed to achieve a better shape of your body. The stitches which are supported internally with the underlying tissues will aid in giving your body its new shape. The incisions will be closed with stitches, skin adhesive, or clips.

If done in your arms, this procedure will improve the shape of them through incisions in the lower area of the arms.

The new shape of your body will be seen almost immediately after the surgery. Even though you will have bruises and swelling on the area. The quality of the skin will be improved drastically. Even though the incision lines will be permanent they can be easily hidden by the natural folds of the body.

Scar Removal - Scar Resection

What is a scar removal?

This is a surgical procedure through which the condition or appearance of a scar is improved.

There are several features of the scars that can be treated with surgical or non-surgical procedures (discoloration, irregular skin surface).

This type of surgery does not harm your health or bodily functions. These may be acne scars, or scars generated by minor injuries or previous surgeries.

Rolling scars are thin groups of scar tissue that develops on the area of the wound. They may grow with time; they may cause flushing of the skin and may become very uncomfortable. These may be hyper or hypo-pigmented.

Compressed scars are longer; these may inflict pain or give an itch in the area. They are located on the edges of the wound or incision. The may come up in any area of the body, but they usually appear where there are reduced adipose tissue such as the shoulders.
Contractures are scars that reduce the movement you are able to do due to the tension generated by the skin and other tissue during the healing. This may occur when there has been and extensive loss of tissue, such as after a burn.

The technique used by Dr. Robles will be determined by the kind of scar you have.

Recovery Time

Return to work within a week.

Am I a good candidate?

Scar removal may be performed on patients of any age. The best patients are those that are in good health, who don’t suffer from any medical condition that may endanger their lives or the healing process. They cannot have active acne or other pathologies on the area to be treated. Patients should not smoke. These patients should have a realistic and positive expectation to improve their looks.

Labiaplasty, Vaginoplasty, Hymen Restoration

What is a surgery of the femenine genitals?

This is a surgical procedure that’s aimed at modifying certain features of the feminine genitals. Lots of women decide to get these surgeries to enhance or rejuvenate their external sexual organs, or even to improve their sexual experiences which may be harmed by physical imperfections.

What does the surgery consist of?

There are several techniques and procedures to improve different conditions by modifying the woman’s external sexual organs. After having an evaluation with Dr. Robles and setting the goals for the surgery, he will tell you which is the most appropriated for you.

One of these procedures is the vaginoplasty, which is aimed at improving the structure of the vulva, labia minora, labia majora, cleft of Venus, perineum, vaginal opening and hymen.

A laser reducing labiaplasty may sculpt the labia minora if they are too big or uneven. At the same time, some conditions that need a reconstruction due to aging, injuries or giving birth. Augmentation labiaplasty gives a youthful look and highlights the labia majora trough fat grafting to the area. The fat will be previously taken from a different part of the body with a liposuction. A laser perineoplasty will improve a perineum that’s been affected by aging. It will also improve how the labia minora and majora look, and the looks of the vulva.

Hymenoplasty is solely aimed at reconstructing the hymen.

Liposculpture may be used to reduce the cleft of Venus, or the labia majora, if they are prominent. Vulvar labiaplasty may remove fat from this area to provide a more beautiful shape.

At the same time, Dr. Robles may even consider doing more than one of the procedures at the same time.

Recovery Time

Back to work in 1 week.

Breast

Breast Reduction

What is a breast reduction?

The breast reduction, medically called reducing mammaplasty, is a procedure aimed at reducing the size of the woman’s breast. This is mostly done in those cases in which their size is disproportioned to the rest of the body, and may even cause pain.

This surgery improves the size, shape and any condition related to the size of the breasts, such as back, neck and shoulder pain caused by an excess of breast tissue, skin irritation or extremely extended and a pendulum like breast or an extremely big areola.

Breast reduction may be done for one or both of the breasts, and it is generally considered a reconstructive surgery.

Am I a good candidate?

This surgery can be done at any age; however, it is advised to do it once the breasts have developed fully. The best candidates for the surgery are those women who have a relatively normal and stable weight, a good health, they cannot smoke and cannot have any diseases that may affect the healing process or risk their lives. It is also very important that they keep a positive mind and they should have specific objectives to improve their looks.

Recovery Time

Back to work in 2 to 4 weeks. Strenous activity in 4 to 6 weeks.

What does the surgery consist of?

Once you’ve decided you are going to do the surgery, and Dr. Robles has decided the way in which he is going to proceed, you will be ready to go into the operating room. Once in there, Dr. Robles will mark where he is going to do the incisions and take pictures in order to compare the results.

Breast reduction is usually performed through incision with a surgical removal of fat, glandular tissue and skin that’s making the breast have that pendulum shape. This technique, in addition to improve the size and shape of the breasts, will also reposition them and also reduce the size of the nipples and areolas which might have been enlarged because of the tensioned skin.

Breast reduction is sometimes done by removing excess fat using liposuction techniques; by removing the excess glandular tissue, skin and fat or by combining both techniques. One of the most common techniques needs an incision pattern that begins around the areola, then continues vertically below the breast and finally horizontally by the natural fold of the breast. After being removing the nipple, it is repositioned and the areola is reduced, as the lifting and remodeling are done. The stitches, skin adhesives and surgical bands for the skin will close the superficial incisions. Many of the incision lines will be easily hidden by the shape and folds of your body, however some of them will be visible. In spite of this, they will improve over time.

Male Breast Reduction - Gynecomastia

What is the male breast reduction - Gynecomastia?

The Gynecomastia is a condition in which a man’s breasts grow out of proportion with the rest of the male body. The surgery is a reducing mastoplasty, aimed at reducing the size, and shaping the man’s chest. In the most severe cases, it is possible that the weight of the excessive breast tissue stretches the areola. In these cases, the position, shape and size of the areola may be surgically improved, and the excess skin removed.

The male breast reduction may develop because of hormonal changes during adolescence or later, be hereditary or because of a disease such as obesity. Other possible causes are the excessive consumption of alcohol, cigarettes, steroids or drugs.

In the case of obese patients, the growth of the breast wouldn’t be Gynecomastia, since in most cases it is caused by the weight increase.

Gynecomastia is characterized by the excess of localized fat, a disproportionate growth of glandular tissue, or a combination of both.

The condition may develop in one or both of the breasts, and in some cases, it may be considered as reconstructive surgery.

Recovery Time

Back to work in 1 to 2 weeks. Strenous activity in 4 weeks.

Am I a good candidate?

The surgery may be performed on many of any age, though it is better to do it in adults, who will not grow any more. Even though teenagers would be benefited by this procedure, it is possible that they have to undergo a second surgery, as their body continues to grow.

The best candidates are men with relatively normal and steady weight and whose condition could not be solved by alternative methods. Patients must be healthy and can’t have any disease that may put their life in jeopardy, or have unhealthy habits such as the excessive consumption of tobacco, alcohol or drugs.
The patient needs to maintain a positive attitude and have specific plans to improve his physical appearance.

What does the surgery consist of?

Once Dr. Robles has cleared all your doubts and given you all the instructions, you will be in perfect condition to face the surgery. Once the patient is ready to go into de operating room, the surgeon will mark the areas that will be treated and then he will take some photos of them to compare the status before and after the surgery. When this is done, the patient will be sedated and locally anesthetized.

If the male breast reduction is caused by an excessive deposit of fat, the treatment will be done as a regular liposuction. A cannula is inserted through small incisions in the perimeter of the areola, the armpits or an area easy to hide, in order to remove the excess of fat.

Gynecomastia can also be treated by excision: the surgical removal of excess skin, tissue and fat. Incision patterns and location vary depending on the patient. The most common incision pattern is a concentric one around the areola or the natural shape of the chest. Excision techniques and concentric patterns are used when the areola has growth out of proportion and it must be reduced or repositioned.

In some cases, the male breast reduction can be treated with both techniques: liposuction and excision. Any surgical treatment to correct Gynecomastia will require incisions. While some of them may be hidden with the natural shape of the body, some will be visible.

Breast Lift - Mastopexy - Breast UpLift

What is a breast lift?

A breast lift is a surgical procedure aimed at raising and improving the shape of the female breast, whether it has a pendulum shape or it has fallen, its lost firmness or elasticity in the skin, the nipples and areolas are facing down or the areola is extremely big.

This type of procedure is appropriate for those women who wish to improve the shape and position of the breast. In those cases where you are looking to increase the size of your breasts, you will also need to get implants.

Am I a good candidate?

Those women who have a normal and stable weight, who have completed their development stage and are not planning to get pregnant are good candidates for this surgery. This kind of surgery is appropriate for young women who have an asymmetry in their breasts. It is a mandatory requirement to have a good health, and no conditions that could delay or affect the healing process or the patient’s life.

Patients should be non-smokers and keep a positive attitude with clear goals to improve their image.

Recovery Time

Return to work in 2 weeks. Normal activities can be reestablished in 3 or 6 weeks.

What does the surgery consist of?

The breast lift is a varying procedure, which result is achieved with different incision patterns and surgical techniques. Which technique is used will depend of the shape and size of the breasts, the size and position of the areola and the quality and elasticity of the skin. The incisions may include a circle around the areola, a line from the areola until the lower part of the breast and a line on the lower fold of the breast.

Not every woman will need these incisions; in some cases a combination of them is needed. Both the combination and the extent of the incisions will depend on the amount and the quality of the skin to be removed.

Once the excess skin is removed, the breast tissue is modeled through lifting. The skin will be tightened as the incisions are closed. Some of the incision lines will be hidden by the natural shape of the breast though others will be visible on the skin. Although these scars are permanent, with time there will be a significant improvement, to the point of being almost invisible.

Breast Implants - Augmentation Mammaplasty

What is an augmentation mammaplasty?

The Breast Augmentation is the placing of mammary implants in order to increase the size of the breasts, as well as achieving a symmetrical appearance of the chest. This is a procedure aimed at enlarging breasts that are naturally small, regain the volume lost after pregnancy or an excessive weight loss or get a better proportioned body and shape.

Still mammaplasty does not correct the position of the breast. In those cases in which the patient wishes to raise its breasts, a breast lift will also be needed.
A permanent breast augmentation can only be achieved with a surgical procedure. There are no medical treatments that have the efficacy of the augmentation mammaplasty or its satisfaction rate.

Am I a good candidate?

Good candidates are those women that are motivated by their personal wishes since this is the key factor that will make them feel satisfied with the results of the surgery. They must be in good health and cannot have any disease that may interfere with their healing process o risk their lives. It is preferable if they do not smoke and they have to be convinced that they want to improve their looks.

Recovery Time

Return to your job in 7 to 10 days. Resume vigorous activities in 3 to 4 weeks.

Are there other options?

There is no alternative treatment. Fat grafting or adipose tissue are not suitable for it, and the scientific research regarding that is very little.

What does the surgery consist of?

Once you’ve been through all the consults with Dr. Robles and arranged the kind, size and technique to put the implant, you will be ready to go into the operating room. On the day of the surgery, Dr. Robles will mark the areas he will treat in order to limit his work area, and he will take some pictures of those areas to measure the results. After this, the assisting team will sedate you and then they will locally anesthetize you in order to proceed with the surgery. Mammaplasty needs a cohesive gel implant in order to augment and “highlight” the breast according to the desired results.

The most common incisions done are the “underbreast”, “underarm” and “periareolar”. Incision patterns will depend on the kind of implant, the target size, the patient’s body and the doctor’s decision. Through the incision, the doctor will create a “pocket” whether behind the breast tissue, under the pectoral muscle, or the chest wall. The implant will be placed inside that pocket and the incision will be closed with non-removable or self absorbing stitches in the breast tissue, and adhesive stitches for the skin or taped shut.

The results of the breast augmentation will be visible immediately. As time goes by, the post-operation swelling and the incision marks will wear off. Your satisfaction will increase as the healing process takes place.

Pectoral Implants - Chest Implant

What is a pectoral implant?

This is a procedure which improves the size and highlights the shape of a man’s pectorals. Some people cannot achieve the results wanted through workout. In other cases, this area of the body has not developed correctly or an accident has damaged the area and you want to remedy that. Any of these conditions will be cured thanks to an implant, which achieves results impossible to reach with any other treatment.

There are several types and sizes of implants; you will choose the most convenient for you with Dr. Robles’ assistance.

What does the surgery consist of?

After Dr. Robles has confirmed that your health is good enough to undergo the procedure and that you have chosen the type of implants that will be used you will be ready to go into the operating room. Once you are in there, Dr. Robles will mark the areas where he will perform the incisions. He will then take pictures of them to be able to compare the results after the surgery has been done. Once this is done you will be sedated and anesthetized to begin with the surgery.

Dr. Robles will perform the incisions on the armpits. Through those incisions he will insert the silicone implants under the pectoral muscle. Once the implant is in place, the doctor will stitch the incisions.

The results will be seen immediately after the surgery. You will have to wait some time until you see the final results, since the swelling won’t allow you to see the definitive shape of your body.

Recovery Time:

Return to work within a week. Most normal activities can be resume after 6 weeks.

Breast Reconstruction

What is the breast reconstruction?

Breast reconstruction is a surgery that is done through several procedures in order to restore the shape, look and size of a breast after a mastectomy. This procedure uses flap techniques to reposition the muscle, fat and skin in order to create or cover the affected breast; the extension of healthy skin to cover the breast implant; breast implantation and other techniques which allow the creation of nipples or areolas.

Even though this procedure can actually rebuild the appearance of a normal breast, the results vary greatly. A reconstructed breast does not have the same sensitivity as the original one. Furthermore, the incision marks are visible, as well as those on the donor area in case the flaps technique had to be used.

Am I a good candidate?

The best candidates are those patients that are currently dealing with the diagnose and the treatment correctly, they must not have any other medical conditions that may endanger their health, they cannot smoke and they must have a positive and realistic prospect for the surgery.

Recovery Time

2 to 6 weeks.

What does the surgery consist of?

Once the technique has been decided by Dr. Robles, you will be ready to enter the operation room. Then Dr. Robles will mark the areas in which he’ll perform the surgery and take pictures to compare the results afterwards.

At this point, the doctor’s assisting team will sedate you and anesthetize you. After this the surgery will begin.

Since there are several techniques to perform a breast reconstruction, this is a highly personal choice; each procedure has its own advantages. The correct one for a patient depends on its anatomy, what Dr. Robles believes is best and the wishes of the patient.

The best sensitivity is achieved with the flap technique, and this procedure is necessary in those cases in which the tissue or muscle that remained after the mastectomy is too small. There will be incision lines both in the donor area as in the reconstructed one. Finally, there is a remote chance of a partial or total tissues loss due to poor healing.

In some cases the mastectomy has left enough tissue on the chest wall to cover and support a breast implant. Using a breast implant for the reconstruction needs almost always the use of the flap technique or tissue extension.

Reconstruction through tissue extension allows an easier recovery than the one with flap technique.
Breast reconstruction is harder through techniques that rebuild the nipple and the areola. The surgery can be done in a single time, or in several steps depending on which technique Dr. Robles thinks is the most appropriate and the treatment used to deal with the cancer. Complete reconstruction is usually done in a process which lasts several months.

The flap technique for transversal abdominal muscles uses as donor zone for muscle, fat and skin the patient’s abdomen for the breast reconstruction.

The Latissimus dorsi flap uses muscle, fat and skin making way under the back skin and tissue of the patient to the breast that must be reconstructed, which means that it remains linked to the donor area keeping the blood flow intact. In some cases, the flap may be used for a complete reconstruction, but the usual is that it provides muscle and tissue to support the breast implant.

The breast implant may be added or it may be an alternative technique to the flap. Reconstruction through breast implant only needs the extension of tissue.

Face

 Blepharoplasty - Lower Upper Eyelid

What is a blepharoplasty?

The blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that is aimed to improve the way the upper, lower or both eyelids look. This procedure can treat slack skin that creates folds or that hides the natural shape of the upper, the excess skin hanging of the upper eyelid that may affect your vision, an excess of fat deposits that may appear as a swelling of the upper lid, the eye bags, the languidness of the lower eyelids and the excess skin and wrinkles of the lower eyelid.

All of these conditions appear because of the effects of time or because of hereditary reasons. The blepharoplasty removes the skin excess, bags and restores the firmness of the area around the eyes providing a more restful and young appearance.

Am I a good candidate?

This surgery is usually performed by adults with healthy facial tissue and muscles. The best candidates are those persons which are healthy, and do not have any illness that may compromise their health nor the healing process, they cannot smoke either. They should have a positive outlook of the process and really want to look and feel better.

Recovery Time

Back to work between 5 to 15 days. In 3 weeks you will be able to return your normal activities.

Face Lift - Neck Lift

What is a face lift?

A face lift is a surgical procedure, which technical name is rhytidoplasty aimed at improving the visible signs of aging in the face and neck. It is recommended that this surgery is only done on adult healthy patients, without any diseases that may endanger their lives, or slow the healing process. It is always preferable that they are non-smokers and that they keep a positive attitude with realistic goals to improve their looks.

Recovery Time

Return to work in 10 to 15 days, but bruising and swelling could persist for 4 weeks.

Facial Implants - Chin - Jaw - Cheeks

What are the facial implants?

Facial implants are made of solid materials, which are compatible with bone and human tissue, and are intended to stand your facial structure out. The kind of implant, size and position of it will depend on Dr. Robles’ assessment and how he tries to meet your desires and expectations.

A facial implant surgery may improve your facial structure notably, as well as correct disproportions to achieve a balance on the face. Implants are usually put in the malar region or the chin.

A chin implant may increase the size and shape of a small chin. Cheek implants modify the shape of the malar region and add volume to an area that may look thin or hollow. The jaw implant increases the size of the lower part of your face.

Am I a good candidate?

This surgery is best practiced on patients that have already reached adulthood, since their bodies will already be fully developed. The best candidates are those people who are in optimum physical conditions, who do not have any condition that may endanger their health or the healing process. Otoplasty - Ears Surgery

What is an otoplasty or ear surgery?

The otoplasty is a surgical procedure that corrects the position of the ears when the significantly protrude on the sides of the head. When the ears are in this position, they may seem to be larger than they actually are. Macrotia (condition which causes the ears to be very large) may appear in one or both ears and also differ in its degree, which affects symmetry.

There are other types of malformations, that don’t necessarily affect hearing, which may be corrected through this surgery.

Am I a good candidate?

A good candidate will be a patient who has realistic goals for the surgery. It is very important that the patient is in good health, that is to say: the patient cannot have any condition that may compromise the healing process or risk his or her life. What does the surgery consist of?

Once the consults with Dr. Robles have been done, and the doctor has deemed the surgery necessary, the patient will be ready to go into the operating room. Once in there, Dr. Robles will mark the areas that will be treated and take pictures to be able to assess the results of the surgery.

When this is done, the doctor will locally anesthetize and sedate the patient to begin with the surgery.
The surgical procedure used to correct macrotia need techniques that recreate or increase the antihelical fold and reduce the midden cartilage when it is protruding.

Non-removable internal stitches will be used to create and secure the correct position of the new shape of the cartilage. External stitches will close the incisions to carry on with the surgery. The surgical techniques used will vary in each case, trying not to distort the adjacent structures.

This procedure will provide results which are immediately visible as soon as the bandages are removed. The new shape of your ears will allow the incision marks to be hidden by the natural folds of your ears.

Recovery Time

Back to work in 5 to 10 days. Vigorous activity in 3 weeks.

Hair Transplant

What is a hair transplant?

Hair restoration is a surgical procedure that alleviates baldness or improves those areas in which hair grows weak, providing a high hair population by implanting follicles.

Hair transplant consists of taking hair from the back of the head and transferring to the balding area. These micro-implants are put into small holes in the scalp. In follicular transference, a scalp flap is positioned in an area of the head that has lost too much hair, such as the forehead or the top of the head. The area from which the flap was taken will be stitched; the scar will not be as the hair of the area grows.

Recovery Time

Resume normal activities in 2 to 3 days. Go back to strenous activities in 3 weeks.

This is a surgical procedure aimed at improving the looks of the area between the upper eyelids and the forehead. This procedure improves the displacement or fall of the eyebrows and minimizes the appearance of lines and folds on the forehead. These conditions may be caused by aging or due to a hereditary predisposition.

In some cases, the repetition of facial expressions may create contractions of the underlying muscles that may later turn into deep wrinkles. Brow lift reduces these wrinkles and other signs of aging both in the forehead and the eyebrows giving you a more relaxed and young appearance. It can also minimize the lines generated on the forehead or between the eyes; furthermore, this could even improve crow’s feet and reposition the eyebrows highlighting them.

This surgery may be performed through several little incisions hidden under the eyebrows, or behind the shape of the upper eyelids. The results obtained may be improved with laser therapy or chemical peeling that will improve skin tone and appearance. An eyebrow lift may be done on its own or together with other procedures such as a face lift or a blepharoplasty.

Recovery Time

Back to work in 7 to 10 days. Strenous activity in 3 to 4 weeks.

What does the surgery consist of?

After you’ve had your consult with Dr. Robles and he has decided that the surgery is convenient for you, you will be ready to go into the operating room. Once in there, the doctor will mark the areas that will be treated and take pictures of them, in order to compare the results of the surgery. Once these steps are completed, you will be sedated and anesthetized in order to start the surgery.

Brow lift is usually done using an endoscope and special tools through small incisions done on the forehead. This allows the tissue and muscles to be repositioned, altered or removed correcting the source of the wrinkles and visible folds on the forehead. In this case, using a laser will be extremely helpful to improve skin tone and appearance.

Correcting the low position of the eyebrows may be done with or without an endoscope through incisions on the sides of the face and forehead. This technique must be done along with incisions hidden on the natural shape of the eyelids or over the nasal bridge. The incision lines for this surgery will be hidden by the natural shape of the body.

Canthopexy

What is a Canthopexy?

The Canthopexy is a surgical procedure aimed at strengthening the tissue located on the lateral side of the eyelid to achieve a more juvenile and relaxed appearance on the face and look.

Am I a good candidate?

It is also advisable that the patient is a non-smoker.

What does the surgery consist of?

After the patient has had the consults with Dr. Robles and the doctor has deemed that the surgery is needed, the patient will be ready to go into the operating room. Once in there, the doctor will mark the areas that will be treated and he will also take pictures of them. The pictures will be useful to assess the results of the surgery. Once this is done the patient will be locally anesthetized and sedated to begin with the surgery.

Dr. Robles will place scissors on the outer joint of the upper and lower eyelids. This is done to perform a fine cut on the side of the eye towards the edge of the orbital bone. The lower half of the lateral canthal tendon which goes from the edge of the orbital bone to the lower eyelid is isolated and cut, to separate it from the bone. An incision will be done on the side of the eyelid very close to the cut tendon, the tarsus is cleaned up, clearing the conjunctiva and the skin attached. This will create a small structure that will be used to make a new, more stretched tendon. A non-absorbable suture will be used to stitch the structure to the periosteum.

Recovery Time

Back to work in 7 to 10 days. Strenous activity in 3 to 4 weeks.

Cosmetic Procedures - Non-Surgical Procedures

Laser Depilation

This procedure uses low energy laser to smoothly remove unwanted hair from any part of the body. On top of the evident benefits that this treatment gives you, you will notice that your skin will acquire a new texture and its quality will increase. This treatment has results that are almost immediate, and very effective.

Sclerotherapy - Varicose Veins - Spider Veins

What is Sclerotherapy?

Telangiectatics are veins that appear as if they were little spiders. These small purple vessels, as the varicose veins which are bluish and painful, usually appear in women’s thighs and legs. The condition is usually hereditary. Since these vessels are not part of the blood circuit, they can be permanently removed with this treatment.

What does the procedure consist of?

Before starting with the treatment, the area must be perfectly clean; once this is done, the doctor will mark the veins that will be treated (starting with the larger ones). Using an extremely small needle attached to a syringe, the doctor will inject the veins with a sclerosing solution.

Even though it is feasible that this generates a small rash in the area, the needle is immediately removed and causes no pain to the patient. In some specific cases, the doctor may have to inject a vein more than once.

Chemical Peeling

What is a peeling?

This treatment is done by applying on the skin a solution that removes dead cells and fosters the production of new ones. This generates a controlled desquamation of the altered skin cells, achieving a more juvenile look and reducing small wrinkles.

After applying the solution you will feel a warmth sensation and itch on your skin, these will last for 10 minutes. If the treatment is very deep, it may be necessary to apply a local anesthetic. Otherwise, the treatment will not need any kind of sedation.

Facial Rejuvenation Laser Skin Resurfacing

What is a facial remodeling with laser?

As years go by the sun, environmental factors or toxins to which we are usually exposed can cause the deterioration of our facial skin, which in turn exposes the signs of aging. These are shown as fine wrinkles round the eyes, forehead, lips and the space between the eyebrows. At the same time, the skin becomes more flaccid and it loses its usual tone.

Facial remodeling is a procedure that allows the correction of all these conditions that affect how your skin looks. The laser used for these corrections are CO2 and Erbium lasers. These repair the skin defects caused by aging.

Am I a good candidate?

This treatment reduces wrinkles notably and improves the aspect of your skin without having to perform incisions or stitches. The laser shoots a beam of light which immediately evaporates the aimed tissue without damaging any adjacent areas. Dr. Robles will guide the laser over the areas that need to be treated to remove the outer skin layers to flatten the wrinkles. At the same time, the treatment may be used to treat acne, age spots, freckles, irregular pigmentation, keloids, etc. once the laser removes these first skin layers, a regeneration process will start, which will be softer and smoother, giving you a younger look.

Lip Augmentation

What is a lip enhancement?

If the treatment selected were one that requires injections, Dr. Robles will inject your mucosa with a little needle in those areas that require a higher volume. For those patients that need an implant, the material selected will be put under your lips through several infiltrations. These procedures usually last between 20 to 45 minutes, and the results will be seen immediately.

Am I a good candidate?

Dr. Robles will assess your medical records and the shape and size of your lips. According to what he observes, he will decide which the best procedure for you to achieve the goals you want.

Mesotherapy - Lipodissolve

The mix of medications used in mesotherapy dissolves the fat located below the tissue and reduces the amount of deep fat. Once the fat is dissolved, it is absorbed by the blood and transported to the kidneys for it to be evacuated.

The size of the area to infiltrate depends on the results that are being looked for and the evaluation done by Dr. Robles.

Disport - Botox - Botulinum Toxin Injections

What is Botox® / Disport™?

Botox ® / Disport ™ is a muscular relaxation therapeutic agent derived of the Clostidrium Botulinum bacteria. This is usually used in treatments that correct visible signs of stress and aging that are shown in people’s faces.

A type Botulinum toxinBotox®/Disport™- is used in its liquid state to be infiltrated in people who seek to restore a younger look to their skin.

What does the procedure consist of?

This procedure needs a previous application of ice and anesthetic cream over the area that is going to be infiltrated. After that, the botulinum toxin is infiltrated with small needles. The procedure will be focused on those muscles that are contracted and cause lines and wrinkles to appear.

The substance will restrict the movement of the muscles giving your face a new appearance.

This is a quick and effective treatment which lasts 10 minutes. After Dr. Robles has performed the infiltration, the area will be put ice to avoid and excessive inflammation.

During the procedure, you will only feel a bit of a discomfort on the area that was injected.

Tattoo Laser Removal

What is a tattoo removal?

Tattoo removal with laser is a highly effective, non-surgical procedure, which allows the removal of unwanted tattoos from your body. This treatment is done in several sessions, which obtains quick and satisfactory results without harming any adjacent tissue, only what you want.

What does this procedure consist of?

Technological advancements have allowed the construction of new laser equipment, such as the Q Switched Neodymium-YAG, which is mostly used to treat melanocitic, epidermal and dermal lesions as well as the removal o tattoos of any kind. The device transmits a beam of infrared light at 1.064 or 532 nm, towards the pigment without harming the skin.

The complete procedure is comprised of the previous disinfection of the skin, then local topical anesthesia which can be infiltrative or cryo-analgesic through a cold spray that temporarily reduces pain, and finally the laser treatment is done. The laser removes the ink thanks to the high energy light beam. The beam emits one or more light wavelengths, which are absorbed, reflected or the go through the surface they are pointed to.

The ink of the tattoos is removed by using a wavelength which is absorbed by it. This will cause the ink to be diluted and then flushed by the body naturally. The laser emits tiny flashes of light called pulses. The impact they cause is minimal, and most patients do not feel any pain at all during the treatment.

The amount of sessions needed to complete the treatment will depend on several factors. Some of them are the ink with which the tattoo was made and the depth of it. The sessions will be done every thirty days, unless told otherwise.

There are some colors that are more easily removed, and others which are more difficult. Colors on the ranges of blue, red and black are easy to remove; whereas those on the ranges of orange, green and yellow are more complicated.

Am I a good candidate?

A good candidate is a person who is in great health and is completely certain that he or she wants to proceed with the treatment, always having clear and realistic goals towards the improvement of their skin.
