Lasik and Eye Surgery Procedures in Istanbul, Turkey

Refractive Surgery and Excimer LASER

iLASIK, LASIK and LASEK

Refractive surgery is the type of surgery to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Refractive surgery technics are iLASIK, LASIK, LASEK and PRK.

LASIK is the abbreviation of Laser Assisted in-Situ Keratomileusis, commonly used method in the world in the treatment of refractive errors of the eye. In LASIK technique, a tiny layer (flap) is taken up from the foremost transparent layer of cornea by a device called microkeratom or by femtosecond laser. Then, excimer laser is applied under this layer to reshape the cornea.

LASEK is a surface ablation procedure similar and it involves removing the outer layer of the cornea (the epithelium) with an alcohol solution before re-sculpting the cornea with the excimer laser.

iLASIK (Blade-Free Laser) is the combination of today’s innovative laser technology INTRA-LASE™ and customized treatment (Advanced CustomVueTM). iLasik is all over a customized treatment and is performed by taking individual visual quality as the base. It is completely computer-controlled and does not allow any mechanical interference. Corneal incision required for Lasik is done blade-free by highly reliable and unprecedentedly sensitive laser.

NASA and American army has approved iLASIK treatment on astronauts and air force pilots. This approval indicates that iLASIK method gives positive results even in people like astronauts and pilots who are exposed to extraordinary natural circumstances and therefore who must have very strong and sharp visual ability as a necessity of their jobs.

Cataract Surgery and Femtosecond Cataract Surgery

 

Cataract is an opacification of the clear crystalline lens with inside the eye that normally happens with age. Cataract has no medication treatment. The only treatment is surgery. During Cataract Surgery, lens layer which has lost its transparency is removed and replaced with an artificial lens so that the patient is allowed to see well again. Crystalline lens is removing with using the phacoemulsification method. Cataract Surgery is managed without injection, anesthesia and pain but only by eye-numbing drops so the patient can return home on the same day.

 

Femtosecond Cataract Surgery is the latest technology using for cataract surgery. The Femtosecond Laser brings micron level accuracy, needle-free, blade-free surgery to the patient and is the greatest breakthrough in cataract surgery in the last 25 years. This is Femtosecond Laser Lens Extraction Surgery- the safest cataract surgery in the world today. Femtosecond Cataract Surgery allows no-needles, no-blades just perfect precision surgery for the patients.

Keratoconus Treatments

Intrastromal Ring Implantation and Cross-Linking

Keratoconus is a progressive thinning of the cornea.  The cornea is the clear, front window of the eye, which, along with the intra-ocular lens, focuses light onto the retina.  The cornea normally is a smooth, round dome-like shape, however in keratoconus, the cornea becomes very thin, irregular, and starts to protrude from the center or just below the center like a cone.

Intrastromal Ring Implantation: It is applied if the keratoconus is not in the advanced period. The cornea ring is placed in the channels that are opened with laser in the cornea. The surgery is made under local anesthesia.

Non-surgical, non-invasive treatment, based on collagen cross linking with Ultraviolet A (UVA, 365nm) and riboflavin (Vitamin B 2), a photosensitizing agent is now available. This changes the intrinsic biomechanical properties of the cornea, increasing its mechanical strength. This increase in corneal strength has shown to arrest the progression of keratoconus.

The treatment is performed in operation theatre under complete sterile conditions. Usually one eye is treated in one sitting. The treatment is performed using anesthetic eye drops.

Presbyopia and Kamra Inlay

 

Presbyopia is the clinical term for the loss of near vision and affects most people by their 40’s and 50’s. Over time the eye’s natural lens becomes too stiff to focus on words which are up-close, and nearby objects tend to become blurry even if a patient has never needed to wear glasses before.

The Kamra inlay is implanted under a Lasik flap or it is placed into an intra-corneal pocket created by a laser. The Kamra is placed in one eye only. The procedure is completely reversible for anyone who does not like the result. The Kamra inlay helps restore everyday near vision and once again give patients the freedom to enjoy “everyday” activities without having to reach for their reading glasses.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is an eye disease which occurs by damage in visual nerves because of rising inner eye pressure. Birinci Eye Hospital is equipped with the latest diagnostic devices for the early detection of glaucoma and can offer long term regular follow up and treatment for this chronic condition.

Glaucoma Treatments are Medical Treatment, Various laser treatments and surgical methods.

Medical Treatment: There are many eye drops used in glaucoma treatment. They reduce intraocular pressure through different mechanisms.

Laser Treatment: In glaucoma treatment, laser process is applied to patients who don’t respond to medication. It can be done before the surgery. There are different laser treatment options. This method is highly successful if it implemented without delay.

Surgical Treatment: If glaucoma cannot be sufficiently taken under control by medication and intraocular pressure cannot be reduced to desired level, surgery step is taken. The most common surgery technics is “trabeculectomy”.

Retina and Macular Degeneration (Yellow spot disease)

The Most Common Retina Diseases are Diabetic Retinopathy, Retinal Detachment, Intraocular bleedings, Macular Degeneration due to age, Retina problems in trauma, Infant Retinopathy, Retinal Embolism, Macular hole, Epiretinal Membrane, Endophthalmitis, Myopic Retina in severe myopias, Retinitis Pigmentosa, and Retinal tumors. Macular Degeneration (Yellow spot disease): Age-related deterioration of the visual center causes fogginess in the visual center. Reason of fogginess is the degeneration of macula which is a small region behind the eye. Macula helps you to see the small details of the focus point of your eyes. Macular degeneration has two types including wet and dry. The dry type is by far the most common version. Wet type is seen less common but it progresses faster and it is more dangerous.
