Cheek Surgery Abroad
Cheek surgery is a cosmetic surgical procedure that is intended to emphasize a patient’s cheeks by filling them out, or by reducing the cheekbones.
Types of cheek surgery
There are two kinds of elective plastic surgeries, which can be carried out on the cheek.
Candidates for cheek surgery
Men or women are able to have elective cheek surgery once puberty has been passed. Those who choose cheek surgery do this due to concerns that the face is too flat or small. In this case, cheek implants can be very helpful in correcting the issue. Likewise, candidates with concerns about weak cheek definition – either genetically or from age – can benefit greatly from cheek implants.
Cheek implants (Augmentation)
Cheek implants come in different types, shapes and sizes. Silicone implants do not integrate with your natural tissue and can be removed later, while hydroxyapatite implants, integrate with your bone tissue and are permanent.
Usually a cheekbone implant is performed together with other facial surgery and so the implants can be inserted through the incisions already made for the other procedure. If only a cheek implant is required, small incisions are made between the cheek tissue and the cheekbone to insert the implants; these are most often inside the mouth or the lower eyelids.
Cheek reduction (Buccal Fat Removal)
This procedure is appropriate to patients who feel that their cheeks are too round – giving the appearance of a “chubby” face. During the procedure the buccal fat is removed. Your physician will make incisions inside the mouth, between the cheeks and gums of the upper jaw, putting pressure on the outside of the cheek, exposing the Buccal Fat through the incisions. The desired amount of fat is then removed, before the incisions are closed with sutures. Incisions are held closed with stitches for approximately ten days. If the incisions were made in the mouth, the stitches will automatically dissolve.
Patients may feel some discomfort immediately after surgery, which can generally be controlled with pain medication. After the procedure, it is normal to feel pain while chewing, and to experience swelling and overall soreness around the cheek area. This will last anywhere from a few days up to a week. Swelling can continue to subside over the next few months. In case of cheek reduction, it will take up to four months before the results are visible.
Benefits of cheek surgery
Cost of cheek surgery
The cost of cheek surgery varies, depending on the patient and complexity of the procedure performed. The cost will be inclusive of fees for the physician, anesthetic, hospital fees, and, if applicable, charges for an overnight stay. The specific cost of cheek implants procedures differs between surgeons, and the average cost of cheek implants differs between geographic regions. The fee for the cheek surgery itself varies, but generally ranges from $2,000 to $3,000. However, lab fees for blood tests, x-rays, and other associated costs must also be considered. Depending on the surgeon and the related medical fees, cheek augmentation cost can range from $2,400 to $5,000.
As with any cosmetic procedure, it is important to research on where the treatment is going to take place as well as the surgeon that will oversee the procedure. Be sure to check the facility to ensure that all equipment is up to date and working properly.
The surgeon's credentials are important also. Check to see where he or she received their degrees. Whenever possible, check past work the surgeon has done, as well as where they received hands-on training and patient care experience.
