For this breast cancer survivor, insight into her genes motivated her to make life-changing health decisions affecting her whole family.
"As a breast cancer survivor, I was really surprised to find that my results showed that I didn't have a high genetic risk for breast cancer. During the discussion with the Genetic Counsellor, she explained that it isn't just about my DNA, but also about how the lifestyle I live, influences my future health.
"As I realised how important a role our lifestyle plays in triggering disease at a later stage, I started making some life-changing health decisions to benefit my whole family. Teaching my children the virtues of a healthy lifestyle early has become an integral part of our lives.
"Slapping on sun block is as routine as brushing their teeth. They never learned to drink fizzy drinks routinely and thus hardly ever ask for it, while being physically active is encouraged as a family past time.
