Anterior resection of the rectum is an operation to remove part or all of the rectum. It is most usually performed for patients with rectal cancer. Many patients with rectal cancer will have radiotherapy before the operation. In many cases the operation can be performed via a laparoscopic (keyhole) surgical technique.
Surgery and Hospitalization: surgery takes minimum of 2 and a maximum of approximately 5 hours. The vast majority of cases is treated with minimally invasive procedures (laparoscopy and robot-assisted surgery). According to the surgeon recommendation the Intrasurgical Hepatic Echography may be necessary and will be done during the same surgical upon patient’s consent.
Discharge: if there aren’t complications the discharge is expected on the 7 day in the morning. The patient will receive a discharge letter in English language.
Post-Surgery check: on the 3rd day after the discharge a patient check visit will take place (free of charge).
