History
Dr. B. L. Kapur, an eminent Obstetrician & Gynaecologist, set up a Charitable Hospital in 1930 at Lahore. In 1947, Dr. Kapur moved to post-partition India and set up a Maternity Hospital at Ludhiana. In 1959, on invitation of the then Prime Minister Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru, Dr. B. L. Kapur set up a 200 bed hospital in Delhi. The hospital was inaugurated by Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru himself on 2nd January, 1959.
Towards the end of the 1990's, the Board of Trustees decided to upgrade the hospital. The old hospital was transformed into a modern state of the art super specialty hospital to meet the current needs of society.
Infrastructure
The hospital offers world class state of the art infrastructure. The hospital design allows natural light into almost all parts of the building especially patient care areas. The architecture allows conservation of energy. The building is earthquake resistant. CFL lights have been used thereby reducing power consumption. The space provided in the various departments satisfies all statutory requirements. Solar panels have been installed to further conserve the electricity.

Community Service
Dr. B. L. Kapur Memorial Hospital has a strong commitment to extend all its resources to the poor and needy. Free 'out patient' and 'inpatients' treatment is provided to all citizens below the poverty line. These patients are not only those who walk in but also those who are referred from other Hospitals and Doctors.
The Hospital runs a free general OPD in all specialities. These OPD's are managed by consultants of the hospital.
Dr. B. L. Kapur Memorial Hospital conducts regular outreach camps at various places in Delhi. Free treatment is provided in these morning health camps. All investigations of patients in the general OPD are heavily subsidised.
