Breast Lift (Mastopexy) General Information

• As the skin loses its elasticity the breasts lose their shapes.
• The surgery is usually performed with an incision surrounding the nipple going straight down to the base of the breast. Sometimes an incision surrounding the nipple is enough and sometimes an upside down "T" incision might be necessary. The loose skin is removed and the breast is reshaped and lifted. The optimum candidates for the mastopexy surgery are individuals who are healthy, emotionally stable and have realistic expectations from the surgery.
• The surgery is performed under general anesthesia. Before the surgery the patient should arrive at the hospital with an empty stomach and should not eat or drink anything 6-8 hours prior to the surgery. Post surgery food or liquid intake  is not recommended for 4-6 hours.
• The surgery takes 3-4 hours. After the surgery the patient will be placed in the recovery room for 30-60 minutes to observe the patients blood pressure, pulse and blood oxygenation. After that the patient is tranfered to her room.
