At Cellteam we are committed to execellence in service. We study the information provided by the patient for their treatment and from the begining it is held with the utmost confidentiality.
First Step: Complete Screening Questionnaire
The patient will need to complete the screening questionnaire, which will allow the medical team to obtain their basic medical history. The information provided is very important and will be used when we contact them to evaluate their case.
Second Step: Initial Consult
The purpose of the consultation with the specialist is to explain the procedure in detail, study your case clinically and solicit the corresponding clinical exams, which we will need to determine if you can be a candidate for stem cell implant.
In the event that the patient needs to have the testing done in Guadalajara, in order to speed up the process, we will ask the patient arrive 3 to 4 days prior to the implant treatment (we will ask for the list of clinical exams on arrival so that everything will move alond smoothly).
In order for the patient to get familiarized with the process, the patient will visit the facility where we will perform the procedure in collaboration with the Institute for Biotechnology and Cellular Therapy S.C., and will also meet the doctor in charge of the cellular therapy.
Third Step: Approving Candidates
The patient will have a second consultation with the medical committee that will inform the patient and the accompanying family members everything related with the procedure. If the candidate is approved and accepts the procedure, the treatment date is scheduled and 2 documents will be given:
1) Informed consent form with the information about the procedure ( the document states that you the patient agrees with the treatment to be performed)
2) Information sheet on medical expenses and doctor fees.
If not approves as a candidate you will be explained the medical and scientisfic reasons for the exclusion.
Fourth Step: Extraction of Stem Cells
Once the patient is admitted to his hospital room, the patient will be transferred to the ambulatory surgical ward to extract the bone marrow stem cells, specifically from the liliatic crest (hip bone), that will allow us to obtain the effective amount of stem cells. Once this procedure is finalized, the patient is
transferred back to his hospital room to wait for the process of separation, purification and quantification of the bone marrow cells, which is performed by the Biotechnology Institute and Cellular therapy S.C.
Approximate Time: 1 hour
Fifth Step: Cellular Cuantification
The bone marrow extracted, is centrifuged to obtain a separation; sterilized by procedures without human contact and completely sterile. Next comes the quantification of the stem cells and a flow cytometer is used to determine the quantity of cells that will be used to implant in the affected organ.
Approximate time: 4 to 6 hours
Sixth Step: Implantation
The patient is moved to the hemodynamic ward to proceed with the implant. A catheter will go through a needle, which will allow us to directly implant the cells to the damaged orgen (Pancreas, heart of lung) depending on the illness. Once the implant is completed the patient is taken to his room.
Approximate time: 2 hours
Seventh Step: Final Check up pre-discharge
The following day the specialist for a final determination of the procedure examines the patient, and if there are no counter indications, the patient is discharged that same morning.
Approximate time of all 7 steps: 24 hours
Eighth Step: Follow up Post-Implant
Because of the rigorous investigation procol and scientific method study that we have to adhere our patients to, the patient is evaluation once a month by an in charge physician, with the purpose of documenting the measuring the clinical improvements that the patient has experiences after the implant.
