New Antiaging Treatment Technology
Anti-aging treatments, cosmetics, and products continue to be popular as growing numbers of men and women seek to reduce the signs of aging and increase a youthful, invigorated appearance that serves to increase self-confidence and well-being in many. Gone are the days when perpetual youth was only found at the end of a scalpel. Today, anti-aging products and innovations come in jars as well as through laser technologies.

Who Benefits from Antiaging Treatments?
Antiaging treatments aren't just for "old" people anymore. These days, individuals in their 20s and 30s are taking steps to avoid the long lasting effects of sun damage, dehydration, smoking, and pollution. Anyone who is concerned about the appearance of wrinkles, sagging jaw lines, and "turkery neck" may benefit from today's new antiaging treatments. Men are among the growing numbers of individuals fighting the good fight against the aging process, and are just as likely to benefit from such treatments as women.

New Technologies in Antiaging Treatments
Some of the most popular new antiaging treatments today include but are not limited to:

  • Cosmetic treatments - such as FDA approved cosmetic treatments and injectable facial fillers such as Botox, Restylane, Juvederm, Radiesse and Perlane.
  • Laser resurfacing
  • Infrared light treatments
  • Bleaching creams - such as Tiluma

Injectable facial fillers help to plump the skin to minimize the appearance of wrinkles, as well help firm sags and loose skin. Many such injectable facial fillers contain sugar derivatives known as poly-L-lactic acid, which serves to stimulate cellular growth and encourages the skin to create new stores of collagen.

Infrared light treatments are noninvasive techniques that help firm loose or slack skin in under an hour and can be used not only on the face, but anywhere an individual has flabby or droopy skin. This infrared light technology stimulates collagen production through heat below the skin's surface. The technology, called Titan, is growing in popularity.

Laser resurfacing helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles on the face, as well as helping to decrease the appearance of age spots and rough skin. Also known as Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing, a.k.a. Fraxel, this technique utilizes a high-powered CO2 resurfacing lasers.

Cosmetic creams and lotions that contain antioxidants to help combat free radicals that damage the skin and lead to wrinkles, freckles, age spots and other aging factors are being tested with ingredients such as idebenone, combined with vitamin C and E, alpha-lipoic acid, and co-enzyme Q10. New products hit the market every year.

How Much Do New Antiaging Technologies Cost?
Simply, the antiaging battle is costly. In the United States, injectable fillers and "contour correctors" may cost between $800-$2,000 for each treatment, and effects are not permanent. In many cases, injectable antiaging treatments last anywhere from four months to two years in duration.

Light source technologies run from $700-$2,000 depending on which part of the body is being treated as well as the condition of the individual seeking treatment. Laser resurfacing sessions may cost anywhere between $500 and $2,000 per session, again depending on the body part that is being treated.

Medical tourists are able to save up to 50 to 75% on such costs by traveling to foreign destinations such as South America, Singapore, Thailand, and Mexico. For example, laser skin resurfacing treatments in Costa Rica cost an average of $1,600 and $780 in India. Botox treatments, which range from around $400 in the U.S. per injection site, costs roughly $130-$180 in Thailand and around $180 in India.

Who Will Perform Antiaging Treatments?
Antiaging treatments that do not involve the use of creams or lotions should be performed by trained and experienced dermatologists or plastic or cosmetic surgeons. Always do your homework before signing on the dotted line and make sure that your dermatologist or surgeon of choice is trained, certified, and accredited by societies or organizations in their country of origin.
