Dr. Robert Wascher is specialized in Surgical Oncology, practicing since 1990 and has been heading the breast surgery department at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) at Western Regional Medical Center (Western) since 2011. He is a board certified surgeon and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Society of Surgical Oncology.
He got his medical degree (magna cum laude) at Creighton University School of Medicine, Omaha, NE and training at Letterman Army Medical Center, San Francisco (surgical internship), Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas (fellowship in neurosurgery) as well as Tripler Army Medical Center, Honolulu (residency training). Dr. Wascher treats a broad variety of cancers of the skin, breast, abdomen, gastrointestinal tract, liver, pancreas, extremities, chest wall, and head and neck. He has a special interest in breast cancer, melanoma, soft tissue sarcomas and tumors of the stomach.
Some of the advanced procedures he performs are less invasive than traditional, open surgery. Also, he is interested in and using innovative surgical tools and technologies, such as Covidien’s microwave ablation system, the SPY Intraoperative Imaging System and Intraoperative Radiation Therapy (IORT).
Dr. Wascher is the founder and editor of Weekly Health Update, a global online health information site. Additionally, he is a surgery, oncology, and public health consultant for several healthcare organizations, like Livestrong, Sharecare, Know Cancer and eHealth Forum, besides other organizations.
