A recent survey done by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery reveals physicians prefer traditional liposuction to other, more modern techniques.

The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, an organization composed of physicians specializing in cosmetic surgery, released a survey indicating that 492 surgeons (51.4 percent) prefer a traditional liposuction technique called suction-assisted lipoplasty (SAL) to other methods. SAL was deemed the most popular method of fat removal by cosmetic surgeons.

Following suction-assisted lipoplasty in popularity is a technique called power-assisted liposuction, or PAL. This procedure is similar to suction-assisted liposuction except PAL employs a vibrating tube that makes the removal of fat easier.

The next most popular technique is the ultrasound-assisted liposuction, or the UAL. With this method, the fat is first liquefied by sound waves allowing it to be suctioned easier.

ASAPS members voted the least popular methods being the laser-assisted liposuction and recent non-invasive techniques including the external ultrasound. A mere five percent found these methods to be favored.
