Smile Makeover Abroad

A smile makeover is a series of procedures aimed at improving ones smile through teeth whitening, dental veneers, white fillings, Lumineers, dental crowns, dental caps, or bridges.  A smile makeover will restore chipped, cracked, or discolored teeth, return the muscles that control your jaw movement to their natural position and restore your bite.

The purpose of a smile makeover is to improve the patient's smile depending on his facial appearance, skin tone, hair color, gum tissue, teeth, and lips to develop the ideal smile.  Smile makeovers are created according to the patient's unique considerations and how he wants his smile to look like.  Tooth decay, staining, discolored teeth and slight shifting are all inevitable causes that are unfortunate but can generally be remedied in a few short visits.

Causes

A smile makeover is the best option for people who wish to improve the appearance of their teeth or gums. If major dental problems or gum disease are present, they will need to be addressed before undergoing a smile makeover. Patients who choose smile makeover usually do this because the have:

  • Mild to severe dental discoloration
  • Irregularly shaped teeth
  • Undersized of oversized teeth
  • Dental chips or fractures
  • Excessive gum tissue, or a “gummy” smile
  • Uneven or crooked teeth
  • Missing teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Metal fillings

Smile Makeover Treatment

The first step before the smile makeover procedure is to evaluate the patient's oral health and create a plan according to the patient's needs. The dentist will conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the teeth, gums, underlying support structure and bite (occlusion) to determine candidacy for a smile makeover. If an oral health problem is detected, such as a misaligned bite (malocclusion) or gum disease, the patient will need to have that taken care of first.

The success of the smile makeover depends not only on the procedures chosen and you dentist's skills, but also on the ceramist, materials chosen and lab technician. Many dentists are using modern technology to offer patients previews of how their smile makeover will look.

The smile makeover includes one or several of these procedures:

  • Professional teeth whitening. The procedure can remove years of dental discoloration to reveal a vibrant white smile in just one treatment.
  • Porcelain veneers. These are thin, tooth-shaped fabrications that can improve the appearance of the teeth by masking dental flaws, correcting tooth shape and color, closing gaps between the teeth and improving the appearance of mildly crooked teeth.
  • Laser gum contouring. This procedure is perfect for those with excessive gum tissue, or a “gummy” smile. Laser gum contouring gently removes excess gum tissue and creates an even, proportionate gum line.
  • Tooth-colored fillings: Old metal fillings and new cavities can be treated with tooth-colored fillings, which are customized to match the surrounding teeth, creating a seamless, natural look.
  • Porcelain crowns. Porcelain dental crowns restore the function and appearance of broken teeth and those with large fillings, as well as adjust the size or shape of the teeth for improved aesthetics.
  • Dental implants. Dental implants offer a permanent solution to replace one or more missing teeth. They can be combined with different types of restorations, such as dental crowns and implant-supported dentures, to restore dental function and appearance

Benefits

A smile makeover can improve many aspects of your smile that you have been trying to hide for so long, as well as other aspects.

Tooth Color. Tooth color can change due to aging, certain foods and drinks or other yellowing factors. Teeth whitening improves the color of stained.

Alignment: Teeth that are misaligned can be straightened and properly aligned through orthodontics procedures like invisalign or may be improved with veneers.

Spacing: Teeth that have gaps between them may be aligned properly through a variety of cosmetic dentistry solutions.

Missing Teeth: Missing teeth can be replaced with dental implants or bridges.

Chipped, Cracked, or Uneven Teeth: Teeth that are chipped, cracked, or uneven can be cosmetically bonded with veneers to improve appearance.

Tooth Length: The effects of aging and every day wear and tear can detract from a youthful appearance.  A smile makeover treatment for shorter teeth may include the reshaping and lengthening of the two front central teeth with composite bonding or porcelain veneers.

Tooth Proportions: A balanced smile gives the appearance of proper proportion and good oral health.  Your dentist will work with you to design a treatment plan that enhances your teeth's aesthetics and gives you a beautifully balanced smile line.

Smile Makeover Cost

The cost of a smile makeover will vary depending on the type of treatment needed to fulfill the patient's goals and they are custom to each individual recipient. The dentist will be able to give a final price after performing an extensive evaluation of the patient's smile.  The dental insurance provider may be able to cover some of the costs associated with restorative dental procedures so you should always consult with them before entering into treatment.

Doctors

To achieve the best results, take special care in selecting your cosmetic dentist and inquiring about your material options.

The cosmetic dentist you select should have basic credentials as well as experience in the procedure you are looking for. Finding a highly skilled cosmetic dentist may take a little bit of effort but will pay off in the long run. Your dentist should be licensed through a state or national licensing board. Find out where they completed their dental training. Do they belong to American or International dental associations or organizations?

Patients should be able to view and understand their treatment plan as well as all the costs and recommendations that are necessary and included for a specific procedure.
