In 1992 Prof. Dr. Tansu Erakgun started his assistantship training at Ege University Medical Faculty Eye Diseases Department. After being a specialist in 1997, he continued working as a specialist doctor at the same clinic in order to specialize in the field of Retina Diseases and Vitreo-retinal Surgery in the same year. During his education, he attended Antwerp-Belgium (Dr. Zivanovic Clinic), Frankfurt-Germany (Dr.Eckardt Clinic), and Duisburg-Germany in different time periods. He gained the title of associate professor in 2004 and professor in 2010.
He is currently an active member of Turkish Ophthalmology Association Surgical Unit, Turkish Ophthalmology Association Medical Retina Unit, Turkish Ophthalmology Association Ocular Traumatology Unit, European Vitreoretinal Society, and American Academy of Ophthalmology. He published numerous articles in national and international scientific journals.
The devices called “Erakgun spatula knife” and “Erakgun snare”, which were designed by himself to be used in vitrectomy operations are acknowledged in the related literature and used throughout the world.
He has specialized in eye complications of diabetes, retina decollements, eye traumas and intraocular foreign matters, macula holes, epiretinal membrane, cataract surgery, and complications of cataract surgery. He performed more than 5000 surgical operations.
