Gastric sleeve in Turkey: Noella's ward round with Dr. Arayici

This video shows a real ward round in Izmir. Op. Dr. Volkan Arayici, the bariatric surgeon who performed Noella's gastric sleeve, visits her in her hospital room before she goes home. It shows what patients hear from the surgeon himself in the final talk before discharge.

What Dr. Arayici covers in the ward round

  • Walking: short, regular walks help recovery. Noella is told to keep walking every day.
  • Back to normal life: Noella works in an office and as a hairdresser. Dr. Arayici tells her she can return to her work.
  • Going-home package: before leaving, patients receive their medication, protein shakes and a "new life" guide book, and the team explains how to eat and exercise in the first weeks.
  • Travel: the transfer to the airport is arranged on the morning of departure.

The stay in Izmir

Patients spend five days in Turkey and four nights in hospital until discharge. They are not sent to a hotel after surgery. Surgery takes place in a JCI- and TEMOS-accredited hospital in Izmir, and an interpreter is included. Dr. Arayici has performed more than 5,000 bariatric operations and is a member of IFSO.

After you go home

Aftercare continues for 12 months by video call and WhatsApp. Vitamin supplements are usually needed for about nine months.
