Angel Zaragoza: For conditions like osteoarthritis, regenerative medicine, particularly the use of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), holds significant promise for reducing inflammation, managing pain, and potentially promoting cartilage repair, thereby improving joint function and quality of life. In the case of autism treatment, the goal of stem cell therapy is often to modulate the immune system and reduce neuroinflammation, creating new connections in the brain which contribute to improvements in some of the core symptoms. While not a cure, we've observed improvements in areas like social interaction, communication, and repetitive behaviors in some patients. For kidney failure treatment, regenerative approaches aim to protect the remaining kidney function, reduce inflammation, and potentially promote to repair of damaged tissue, with the goal of slowing disease progression and improving overall well-being. It's crucial to state that these are not definitive cures, but rather interventions aimed at significantly improving quality of life, managing symptoms, and potentially altering the disease trajectory. We approach each case individually, setting realistic expectations.  

Evelyn Hayes: Safety and ethical considerations are paramount in regenerative medicine, especially when treatments might be considered experimental. How does MexStemCells ensure the highest standards of safety and ethical practices in all its procedures?

Evelyn Hayes: Looking specifically at your treatments for osteoarthritis, can you describe the typical protocol and what kind of patient outcomes you're observing? Are there particular advancements in this area you're excited about? 

Angel Zaragoza: For osteoarthritis, our typical protocol involves the intra-articular injection of high-quality, culture-expanded mesenchymal stem cells, often combined with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to enhance the regenerative environment. The goal is to reduce inflammation, alleviate pain, and stimulate local tissue repair. Patients often report a significant reduction in pain, improved mobility, and a decreased reliance on pain medication. We're seeing many individuals regain the ability to perform daily activities that were previously challenging. Advancements we are excited about include a deeper understanding of exosome therapy derived from MSCs as a cell-free regenerative option, and improved cell characterization and selection techniques to tailor treatments even more precisely to the patient's specific stage of osteoarthritis and inflammatory profile. 

Evelyn Hayes: For conditions like autism and kidney failure, which are very different in nature, how do your stem cell treatment approaches vary, and what are the primary goals of therapy for patients with these diagnoses at MexStemCells?

Angel Zaragoza: Indeed, these conditions require distinct approaches. For autism spectrum disorder (ASD), our protocols typically involve systemic (often intravenous) administration of MSCs. The primary goal is to leverage the immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties of these cells to reduce systemic and neuroinflammation, which are increasingly implicated in ASD. We also look at their potential to support neural connectivity. The aim is to improve core symptoms such as social interaction, communication skills, and repetitive behaviors, thereby enhancing the child's quality of life and developmental trajectory. 

For kidney failure, particularly chronic kidney disease (CKD), the approach may involve targeted delivery of MSC systemically. The primary goals here are to preserve existing kidney function by reducing inflammation and fibrosis,  promote the regeneration of damaged kidney cells where possible, and improve glomerular filtration rate. Ultimately, we aim to slow the progression of the disease, potentially delay the need for dialysis or transplant, and improve the patient's overall health and energy levels. For Kidney Failure treatment is paramount to control high blood pressure, serum electrolytes, specific diet, and glucose levels.

For both conditions, treatment is part of a comprehensive management plan, and outcomes are carefully monitored.
