The HoLep procedure (Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate) is a minimally invasive laser surgery consisting in the enucleation of the prostate: it uses laser energy to remove adenomatous tissue. This technique removes the enlarged area of the prostate gland and improves the urine flow.
HoLEP is performed under general anaesthesia and takes about 45 -90 minutes (depending on the patient’s enlarged prostate’s size). During the surgery, holmium laser is used as a cutting instrument to divide the plane between the prostate gland tissue and the prostate capsule. This allows a complete removal (resection) of the adenomatous tissue and diminishes the future re-treatment need. HoLEP can be performed on any size prostate gland and the patient recovers quickly.
In comparison to TURP (transurethral resection of the prostate), HoLEP has the advantage of a much higher percentage of prostate tissue removed. From this point of view, HoLEP is closer (as a result) to the open prostatectomy, but with fewer complications and side effects.
At Mexico Transgender Center (Guadalajara, Mexico) the HoLEP procedure’s price starts from $7,000 and includes:
The price excludes the patients’ personal expenses.
