What types of stem cell therapies are offered by MS clinics in Colombia?
MS clinics in Colombia primarily offer mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) therapy, often derived from adipose (fat) tissue or bone marrow, as well as umbilical cord tissue. These advanced regenerative treatments aim to reduce inflammation, modulate the immune system, and promote neural repair for patients with Multiple Sclerosis, focusing on improving neurological function and overall quality of life.
Colombian MS clinics provide a range of advanced stem cell therapies designed to address the unique challenges of Multiple Sclerosis. The main types typically available include:
-
Mesenchymal Stem Cell (MSC) Therapy: This is a prominent treatment, utilizing MSCs harvested from the patient's own adipose tissue (fat-derived) or bone marrow (bone marrow aspirate concentrate, BMAC). These cells are known for their immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties, which can help calm the overactive immune response in MS and promote tissue repair.
-
Umbilical Cord-Derived Stem Cells: Some clinics offer therapies using mesenchymal stem cells sourced from umbilical cord tissue, which are often considered to be more potent and readily available than adult stem cells. These are carefully processed and administered.
-
Exosome Therapy: In conjunction with stem cells, some clinics may also offer exosome treatments. Exosomes are tiny vesicles released by stem cells that carry genetic information and proteins, facilitating cell-to-cell communication and promoting healing processes.
These therapies are often delivered intravenously or through targeted injections, tailored to each patient's specific condition and needs after thorough evaluation by a regenerative medicine specialist.
How do Colombian stem cell clinics ensure patient safety for MS treatment?

Patients interested in the scientific backing of their treatment should always discuss the clinic's research affiliations, data collection practices, and the evidence supporting their specific protocols with the medical team.
How do Colombian clinics personalize stem cell treatment plans for MS patients?
Colombian clinics personalize MS stem cell treatment plans by conducting thorough individual assessments, including detailed medical history and diagnostic tests, to understand each patient's specific type and progression of Multiple Sclerosis. This allows them to tailor cell dosage, administration methods, and complementary therapies, ensuring a highly individualized approach aimed at maximizing therapeutic effectiveness and improving patient outcomes.
Personalization is a key aspect of effective Stem Cell Treatment for Multiple Sclerosis, and Colombian clinics employ several strategies to tailor plans to individual patients:
-
Detailed Diagnostic Assessment: Every patient undergoes a comprehensive evaluation that includes a review of their complete medical history, neurological examinations, and advanced diagnostic imaging (like MRI scans). This helps pinpoint the specific type of MS, disease activity, and areas of neural damage.
-
Individualized Treatment Protocols: Based on the assessment, the medical team determines the most appropriate stem cell source (e.g., adipose-derived, bone marrow-derived, or umbilical cord-derived MSCs), the optimal cell dosage, and the method of administration (e.g., intravenous, intrathecal, or targeted injections).
-
Consideration of Disease Progression: Treatment plans are adjusted based on whether the patient has relapsing-remitting MS, primary progressive MS, or secondary progressive MS, and the current stage of their disease.
-
Integration of Complementary Therapies: Clinics often combine stem cell therapy with other supportive treatments, such as hyperbaric oxygen therapy, specialized nutrition plans, physical therapy, or targeted rehabilitation exercises. These are chosen based on the patient’s specific needs to enhance overall therapeutic benefits.
-
Continuous Monitoring and Adjustment: The treatment plan is not static. Throughout and after the therapy, the patient's response is closely monitored. This allows the medical team to make informed adjustments to aftercare or follow-up treatments, ensuring the plan remains optimal for their evolving condition.
-
Patient-Centric Discussions: Specialists engage in extensive discussions with patients to understand their personal goals, lifestyle, and preferences, integrating these into the treatment strategy to create a plan that is not just medically sound but also aligned with the patient's individual needs and expectations.

Colombian clinics prioritize accessible follow-up care for MS patients, recognizing the long-term nature of managing Multiple Sclerosis and the international patient base. Here's how they typically ensure continuity of care:
-
Telemedicine and Virtual Consultations: The most common and convenient method for international patients is telemedicine. Clinics arrange scheduled video or phone consultations, allowing patients to connect with their specialists from their home country. This enables the medical team to monitor progress, address concerns, and provide ongoing guidance without the need for additional travel.
-
Dedicated Patient Support Channels: Many clinics offer direct communication channels, such as email or dedicated messaging apps, where patients can reach out to their patient coordinators or medical team with questions or updates on their condition.
-
Personalized Follow-up Schedules: The frequency and type of follow-up appointments are tailored to each patient's individual needs and the progression of their MS. This ensures that patients receive appropriate monitoring as their recovery unfolds.
-
Coordination with Local Healthcare Providers: Some clinics assist in coordinating with the patient's local doctors or neurologists. They can provide detailed treatment summaries and recommendations for ongoing local care, creating a collaborative approach to the patient's long-term health management.
-
Remote Diagnostic Review: If local diagnostic tests (e.g., new MRI scans) are required, patients can send these reports to their Colombian clinic for review and interpretation by the specialists, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of their condition's evolution.
-
Educational Resources: Clinics often provide patients with educational materials and resources to help them understand their condition better and manage their recovery journey effectively.
This multi-faceted approach to follow-up care ensures that patients feel supported and confident in their post-treatment journey, regardless of their geographical location.

I decided to go to Columbia for a stem cell treatment for Parkinson’s disease because Dr. Carlos Rojas read my medical history and pointed out a few things that I was not aware were on there. Other places I had researched gave me a price and never asked for medical history. I felt very comfortable with Dr. Rojas and his team. I am just a month or so out of getting the stem cells. I saw an immediate improvement the day I received it. It was a minor thing to most, but a big deal to me. Before I went to Columbia. I could not turn over in bed at night. My body would freeze and my wife would have to physically/manually turn me from one side to another. Since the day I received the stem cells I have been able to toss and turn on my own. Doesn’t seem like much I know, but when you haven’t been able to do it for a while, it’s a big deal. I have also lowered some of the medication I take. It’s early in the process so I am hopeful that as time goes on I can adjust my medicine down more! I am so glad I did this! Daniel our translator and Benjamin our driver were so helpful and kind during our stay. The hotel was perfect! It had everything we needed! I was having trouble walking before I came so I wasn’t planning on doing much adventuring. This trip was all business. I would recommend this to anyone with Parkinson’s if they have the opportunity. I highly recommend Dr. Rojas. My walking has improved since the stem cell treatment. Slowly, as this process takes time. I am very hopeful for the future. I was 40 when I got diagnosed and I am now 48. This treatment was worth a try. I would recommend Dr. Rojas and his team. They are thorough. The facilities are clean and the nurses are great. Thank you Dr. Rojas and Daniel for everything!
