Direct Hair Implantation (DHI) - Hair Transplantation

Direct Hair Implantation (DHI) is the latest hair transplantation technique for those suffering from hair loss and wish to undergo a transplant.

In this process, the hair follicles are removed from the donor area one after one using a very fine extractor, with a very fine diameter of 1mm or even less. The procedure involves extracting hair follicles from the donor area with a micro motor and later transplanting the same hair follicles into the receipt with a pen-like device that contains a hollow needle, called the Choi Implanter Pen. DHI procedure is performed by certified surgeons who provide accurate and effective transplants.

Hair follicles are immediately transplanted within about 1-2 minutes after the extraction process so that the follicles do not remain outside the body for a longer time period. This enhances the survival rate of each follicle and the patient gets a desired successful result. The surgeon uses a single-use implanter directly on the treatment area that gives her full control over depth, direction, and angle and also ensures natural results.

The hair transplant procedure is performed under local anesthesia. It’s a painless session and lasts for around an hour or two. Patients can resume their normal life from the very next day as there is no healing time required.

Benefits of Direct Hair Implantation (DHI)

  • Natural results
  • Pain-free
  • No scarring
  • No reception incisions
  • No stitches
  • Maximum survival rate of hair follicles
  • Quick healing
  • Less donor hair requirement

DHI does not require shaving of the head before the procedure. It is easier for the surgeon to transplant between hair strands in case the patient has non-balding areas on the scalp. Thus, a higher density of hair could be achieved and better results are obtained in areas that are not spacious. DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) techniques do not require stitches and cuts. The technique ensures that the grafts taken from the back of the head for transplanting are healthy and stronger. This reduces the time spent outside.

Important Features of DHI

  • Pen nibs are specific to the patient and can be utilized for one patient only
  • The success of the hair transplant depends on the correct and precise management of the depth, density, and sides
  • Less pain and bleeding
  • Performed under local anesthesia
  • Performed by the specialized hair surgeons
  • Transplanted roots stay forever

Stages of DHI

Stage I - Collection: In this stage, hairs with a width of less than 1 diameter is removed from the scalp with a specific tool called “micromotor”, and collected. No scars or cuts are experienced.

Stage II - Arrangement: The hairs collected in the first stage are carefully put in the pen with suitable canals for the height of the hair strand.

Stage III - Plantation: The hairs inside the pens are directly implanted in the hairless area. Canals are opened and hairs are planted at a specific angle and the depth in the recipient area at the same time. The transplanted hair will stay forever and never be lost post-transplantation procedure.

Candidature for Direct Hair Implantation (DHI)

  • Patients requiring front line transplantation
  • Eye-brow transplantation
  • Beard and moustache transplantation
  • Patients who don’t prefer shaving during the hair transplant procedure
  • Patients desiring thicker and denser hair in their receding and balding area

The transplanted hair grows naturally for the rest of the life with the same texture and characteristics. Direct hair implantation (DHI) technique gives natural results and density to the hair. The patient can style the hair as per their choice.
