The process of bariatric recovery

The speaker accounts in this video outline the real steps these patients followed during their bariatric journey, from initial decision-making to long-term habit building.

  1. Find a trusted surgeon. Nereida explains that they chose their doctor based on a direct recommendation from a friend whose entire family had successful procedures.
  2. Undergo the procedure. Both patients received a gastric sleeve, a surgical tool designed to limit stomach capacity and assist with significant weight loss.
  3. Relearn eating habits. After surgery, Wally describes having to learn how to plate smaller portions, manage water intake, and physically stop eating when satisfied.
  4. Engage in medical follow-ups. The patients were required to stay in contact with the medical team through regular video calls and clinic check-ins for an entire year.
  5. Maintain lifestyle changes. Wally stresses that the surgery is not a shortcut, and long-term health requires ongoing commitment to the new dietary and physical routines.
