Approximately 5 per cent of all men are affected by severe penile curvature, which often leads to difficulties or pain during sex. A distinction is made between congenital penile curvature and acquired penile curvature; the latter is often the result of induratio penis plastica or a penile fracture
At the Asklepios Clinics, established surgical procedures are available for surgical penile straightening.
1. Tuck techniques. The connective tissue surrounding the corpus cavernosum is sutured and tucked on the side opposite the curvature. This allows the corpus cavernosum to expand evenly once again.
Well-known methods
Nesbit procedure.
The STAGE technique is a highly specialised, minimally invasive surgical alternative to traditional methods such as the Nesbit procedure
• Essed-Schröder method / plication.
2. Stretching techniques with tissue replacement (incision & grafting / plaque surgery) for severe curvatures (over 60°).
3. Implantation of a penile prosthesis. This procedure is the last resort and is only used if the penile curvature is accompanied by severe erectile dysfunction that can no longer be treated with medication
The costs range from $8,000 to $15,000 and depend on the surgical method, the individual complexity of the procedure, and whether the operation is performed on an outpatient or inpatient basis.
During a one-to-one consultation, the patient’s symptoms are discussed in detail and a personalised treatment plan is proposed.
The operation is performed by the Head of Urology at the Asklepios Barmbek Clinic PD Dr.med. Netsch.
