How gender selection with PGT works

Preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) is performed on a few cells taken from each embryo after IVF/ICSI. The laboratory analyses the embryo's chromosomes, including the sex chromosomes, so the couple can choose an embryo of the desired gender for transfer. PGT also screens embryos for chromosomal abnormalities, which helps select the healthiest embryo.
