Stage 4 Breast Cancer with Bone Metastasis

Stage 4 breast cancer means the cancer has spread beyond the breast to other parts of the body. In Maria's case it had spread to the bone, which is called bone metastasis.

Maria says her diagnosis was stage four breast cancer with metastasis to the bone [00:10]. She says she had tried to heal her cancer naturally on her own and could not. She had some symptoms she could see, and they were getting worse, so she came to ITC to stop it from moving forward.

She also says she had chosen not to do chemo, radiation, or therapy in the United States [00:40].

Lymphedema and Daily Life

Lymphedema is swelling that happens when lymph fluid does not drain properly, often because lymph nodes are blocked or damaged.

Maria says she started losing the ability to use her left arm. She had lymphedema in that arm because her lymph nodes became clogged, and she became partially disabled [00:45].

She says her voice is much better now but was much worse before, and that she had unbelievable pain from a wound on her left breast, which was also extremely debilitating. Her quality of life was getting very low. Then one day she woke up and felt the lymphedema in her face, as she had felt it in her arm [01:12].

Asked about the therapies at ITC, Maria says everything is very easy there and that all of the therapies are very scientifically based. She says she is very impressed by that. Asked about Tijuana after being there for some time, Maria says it feels like an upper-class neighborhood and completely safe. To her it feels a lot like America, except speaking Spanish [03:48].

She mentions a lot of nice restaurants and nice shops, and says it does not feel unsafe in any way whatsoever [04:00].

Results She Reports

Tumor markers are substances in the blood that doctors can measure to help track a cancer. Maria reports the following results in her own words:

• She says her cancer markers were over 3,000 when she first arrived, which she calls an astronomically high number and one of the highest Dr. Alvarez had ever seen [04:18]. She says the number dropped to 500 with the therapies at ITC.
• She says she has never had pain in her bones, which she understands to be a big positive for bone metastasis [04:45].
• She says her lymphedema went down more than 50%, her breast wound pain is gone completely, and the skin is starting to heal.
• She says she used to be unable to bend over because of the pain, and can now touch her toes.
• She says her breast had been attached to the chest wall by the cancer, and is now moving freely [05:12].

Her Message to Other Patients

Asked what she would say to people who hesitate to come to ITC, Maria says she believes these treatments work. She says that because a lot of science and research is not put behind them, it does not mean they cannot work. She adds that there are true stories of healing without long-term side effects [05:45].
