The amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as ALS and the Lou Gehrig's disease, is characterized by a loss (reduction) of certain progressive nerve cells of the brain and spinal cord called motor neurons. ALS is a progressive disease. Walking, speaking, eating, swallowing and other basic functions become more difficult over time. ALS can cause other different damages, diseases and complications.
Recent discoveries have shown the capabilities of stem cell repair mechanism and it acquires the regenerative capabilities to develop different types of cells such as brain cells, red blood cells, and muscle cells, etc. Stem cell therapy combines different types of cells that rebuild and prevent damage to the motor neurons and regenerates new blood vessels to enhance the blood flow at the same time.
The stem-cells will be derived and subsequently injected. Cells are collected from the patient’s blood and he/she can leave the clinic after the procedure. The clinic uses autologous stem cells.
The stem-cell treatment itself will not take more than approximately 1 hour. First, the medical team starts with a brief consultation with and, afterward, blood will be collected (1 test-tube).
At German International Clinic (Frankfurt, Germany), stem cell therapy for ALS costs from $19,284 (17,500 EUR).
The cost mentioned above excludes the price for the consultation is about $225/hour, but only the actual spent time in the doctor’s office will be invoiced. Also, the cost excludes transportation, accommodation and patient’s personal expenses.
