Olivia’s IVF & PGT Journey in Mexico
I'm Olivia, an architect from Vancouver. For years, I've dedicated myself to building beautiful, functional spaces for others. But my deepest desire was to build my own family. My husband and I were lucky enough to have our first child naturally, but when we tried for a second, it just didn't happen. Months turned into years, and after countless appointments and tests, we were diagnosed with secondary infertility. The hardest part was the feeling of loss, knowing we had this love to give and a family that wasn't complete. I felt like a failure. The emotional toll of infertility is impossible to describe. Every pregnancy announcement from friends felt like a punch to the gut. The hope you feel each month, only to have it crushed, is devastating. We decided to pursue In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) to have our second child. The Canadian healthcare system, which is otherwise fantastic, had some major hurdles for us. The waitlists for IVF in British Columbia are notoriously long—we were looking at over a year just to get started. Furthermore, the public funding for IVF is limited, and it doesn't cover all the advanced treatments. Specifically, we wanted to do preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) because of my age, which significantly increases the risk of chromosomal abnormalities. This was an extra cost, and the overall price for a full cycle of infertility treatment in Canada was over $20,000, and that was just for one round. It was a huge financial and emotional gamble.
My husband and I started looking into medical tourism for IVF. We came across PlacidWay and were immediately impressed by the number of success stories and the detailed information they provided. We were skeptical at first, but after a phone call with one of their representatives, our fears began to subside. She was incredibly knowledgeable and compassionate. She explained that many clinics specialized in fertility tourism in Mexico and offered state-of-the-art technology, often at a fraction of the cost. She connected us with a fertility clinic in Mexico, a clinic known for its high success rates and expertise in PGT. The team at PlacidWay made the entire process so easy. They helped us organize our medical records, set up a virtual consultation with our doctor, and even assisted with our travel arrangements. Our doctor was wonderful. She reviewed our case in detail and explained how they would perform the IVF cycle, including the PGT procedure to screen the embryos for genetic abnormalities before transfer. The entire package, including the IVF, PGT, and travel, was around $10,000 - $12,000 USD. It was an affordable and hopeful alternative.
Traveling to Mexico for the treatment was a unique experience. While there, we spent our time focusing on each other and the journey we were on. The clinic was beautiful, and the staff treated us like family. The doctors and nurses were incredible, walking us through every step of the process, from the egg retrieval to the embryo transfer. The PGT results came back quickly, and we were thrilled to learn that we had several healthy embryos. The day of the transfer was filled with both nerves and hope. Today, I am happy to say that I am a mom of two. My son, Lucas, is a beautiful, healthy baby, and his older sister adores him. We couldn’t be more grateful. PlacidWay turned a daunting, almost impossible situation into a beautiful reality. They were more than a medical tourism facilitator; they were a partner in our journey to complete our family. I can't recommend them enough to anyone facing similar challenges. They offer not just a service, but a path to hope.
