From Research to Treatment: Maureen's Hip Replacement in Turkey

Dealing with debilitating joint pain that severely compromises mobility, independence, and daily quality of life can lead individuals to explore medical travel options across the globe. When long waiting lists in domestic healthcare systems prevent timely surgical intervention, patients often conduct exhaustive international research to find world-class surgical centers that offer comprehensive care, exceptional postoperative recovery support, and proven clinical excellence.

In this detailed patient testimonial, we examine the remarkable recovery journey of Maureen Goff from British Columbia, Canada, who compared medical facilities across seven countries before choosing Turan Turan Health Group in Bursa and Istanbul, Turkey. Highlighting the transformative impact of advanced Hip Replacement in Turkey, specialized Orthopedic Surgery in Turkey, and state-of-the-art Hip Surgery in Turkey, this narrative underscores the exceptional standards of modern international medical tourism.

Global Research and Initial Skepticism

When patients first encounter medical tourism programs that offer superior clinical outcomes, comprehensive rehabilitation, and seamless concierge support compared to their domestic options, initial skepticism is entirely natural. Evaluating multiple international providers requires meticulous vetting to ensure safety, transparency, and clinical credibility.

As documented in the video testimony at [00:00], Maureen initially thought the program might be a scam because it was so head and shoulders above any other program she read about. After extensive global research and cross-referencing information, she realized the exceptional quality of care offered was genuine and life-changing.

Background Pain and Progressive Mobility Loss

Chronic joint deterioration often stems from historical injuries that remain manageable for decades before suddenly escalating due to age, arthritis, or increased wear and tear. When conservative treatments like anti-inflammatories fail and begin causing adverse side effects, patients reach a critical crossroads where major surgical intervention becomes inevitable.

As noted at [00:30], Maureen shared her background from British Columbia, Canada, explaining how a car accident 35 years prior eventually led to severe hip and back arthritis. With her kidney function compromised from heavy medication use and her daily life reduced to relying on crutches and wheelchair assistance, she urgently needed specialized surgical care.

Comparing Seven Countries Worldwide

Choosing the right destination for major orthopedic surgery involves analyzing clinical expertise, hospital accreditations, technology standards, and postoperative protocols across multiple continents. Comprehensive research ensures that patients make fully informed decisions tailored to their specific medical needs.

As highlighted at [00:10], Maureen scoured options across Mexico, the United States, Canada, Germany, South Korea, Latvia, and Lithuania before finding superior protocols in Turkey. Her meticulous evaluation framework highlights key considerations for international medical travelers.

Key Criteria in Maureen's Global Medical Comparison

  • Rigorous evaluation of hospital accreditations and surgical success rates.
  • Comparison of advanced robotic and minimally invasive surgical technologies.
  • Assessment of comprehensive postoperative rehabilitation and physiotherapy programs.
  • Review of patient testimonials and independent clinical feedback across global platforms.
  • Analysis of end-to-end concierge support, including airport transfers and translation services.

Seamless Concierge Support and Airport Arrival

Traveling internationally while mobility-impaired presents significant logistical hurdles, making professional medical concierge services an essential component of a successful medical journey. Smooth coordination from departure to hotel check-in alleviates anxiety for patients and their traveling companions.

As described at [03:44], Maureen and her partner were greeted warmly at the meeting point by a dedicated coordinator who escorted them to their private driver and assisted with luggage, ensuring a seamless and personable arrival experience in Turkey.

Surgical Experience and In-Hospital Care Standards

The precision of the surgical procedure and the attentiveness of the hospital nursing and physiotherapy teams dictate the immediate postoperative recovery experience. Modern medical centers prioritize patient comfort, strict punctuality, and advanced pain management protocols.

As captured at [04:16], Maureen praised the phenomenal care she received, noting how punctually the medical transport arrived, how smooth the surgical preparation was, and how dedicated the nursing staff and physio team were throughout her stay.

Core Pillars of In-Hospital Care and Rehabilitation

  • Strict scheduling and prompt execution of pre-operative and post-operative protocols.
  • Advanced warming and comfort measures implemented in surgical preparation units.
  • Expert multidisciplinary physiotherapy designed to reactivate core muscle groups quickly.
  • Compassionate 24/7 nursing oversight ensuring optimal pain management and healing.
  • Dedicated patient advocates guiding every phase from admission to discharge.

Remarkable Post-Operative Recovery Milestones

Transitioning from being bedridden or wheelchair-bound to standing, walking, and resuming active hobbies represents a profound physical and emotional milestone. Structured rehabilitation exercises empower patients to rebuild muscle strength and regain balance effectively.

As highlighted at [05:55], Maureen reflected on her incredible recovery just seven months post-surgery, transitioning from complete immobility to practicing online yoga, strength training, and playing nine holes of golf.

Milestones in Maureen's 7-Month Recovery Timeline

  • Immediate postoperative pain relief and successful bilateral hip replacements.
  • Rapid mobilization supported by expert hospital physiotherapy regimens.
  • Resumption of home fitness routines, including online yoga and strength classes.
  • Return to outdoor recreational sports, such as playing nine rounds of golf.
  • Full restoration of independence in household management and social hosting.

Excellence in Turkish Medical Infrastructure

Turkey has established itself as a premier global destination for advanced orthopedics, combining cutting-edge surgical technology with highly experienced medical professionals and world-class hospitality. International patients consistently report outcomes that surpass their expectations.

The integration of specialized clinical departments, state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging, and comprehensive patient care models ensures that individuals traveling from North America, Europe, and beyond receive superlative medical treatment in safe, modern environments.

Life-Changing Transformation and Profound Gratitude

As demonstrated by Maureen's inspiring journey, overcoming severe physical limitations is entirely possible with expert surgical intervention and dedicated rehabilitation. Expressing profound gratitude to Dr. Turan and the entire clinical team, her story serves as a beacon of hope for patients worldwide seeking effective solutions for chronic joint pain.

[00:00:00] But, originally, I thought it was a scam, because it was so head and shoulders above any other program that I read about.

[00:00:08] I thought it can't be true. And I looked around the world. I looked at Mexico, and the United States, and Canada, but Germany, South Korea, Latvia, Lithuania. I looked everywhere.

[00:00:20] That I think it's the best decision that I could have made. And yes, I would recommend it to anyone.

[00:00:30] Okay, my name is Maureen Goff, and I'm 66 years old, and I'm from British Columbia, Canada.

[00:00:34] The pain started 35 years ago, when I had a bad car accident, but it was always manageable.

[00:00:40] So, I've led a really active life. I've climbed mountains, I've had adventure travel all over the world, but this last winter, it got unmanageable.

[00:00:51] So, ever before, I just took anti-inflammatories, and just kept going.

[00:00:54] But, last winter, the pain got worse and worse, and it wasn't responding to the anti-inflammatories at all.

[00:01:00] And then, I was taking so many of them that my kidneys started to give out.

[00:01:05] So, I had to go off them completely, and that's when the pain just skyrocketed.

[00:01:08] So, it has been a year now that I've been in this pain.

[00:01:13] Um I live in a condominium, and so, from my condo to the elevator, used to take 2 minutes.

[00:01:22] Then, it got worse, and it was taking like 4 or 5 minutes to get, and now I can't walk there at all.

[00:01:28] Around the house, I can function with my crutches, but I can't grocery shop or anything.

[00:01:34] Driving is very difficult without help. I'm basically disabled.

[00:01:37] So, basically my entire life has ended, and what I'm left with is simply functioning, just trying to function day to day.

[00:01:49] And I can't do that without crutches or complete help.

[00:01:51] Nights are painful. So, I don't get a lot of sleep, because the pain in both hips is so bad.

[00:01:57] This is all made worse because I had severe arthritis in my back as well.

[00:02:01] So, I have had back surgery just 3 months ago.

[00:02:05] I didn't have any treatments for my hips specifically, but I did for my back and they're so related, closely related, that I thought one would help the other, but I didn't get any relief.

[00:02:15] So, when I realized that I needed some really quick intervention, I started researching hip and back syndrome and the treatment interventions.

[00:02:25] And so, Turan's name came up very quickly in a search.

[00:02:27] But originally, I thought it was a scam because it was so head and shoulders above any other program that I read about that I thought it can't be true.

[00:02:39] The more research I did, and I used AI, I did all sorts of stuff to do my research to make sure I was getting the best information possible.

[00:02:44] Turan was just head and shoulders above everyone, and I was most concerned about post-op care.

[00:02:52] Well, Turan was the only one that offered such a comprehensive post-op program.

[00:02:57] And that was one of the first things that sold me.

[00:03:01] And I looked around the world, and Turan just kept coming up as the best option for me and for my needs.

[00:03:06] I researched every piece of this. There's no piece I didn't research.

[00:03:13] So again, I looked I scoured every research piece I could find to see if there was any bad news stories about Turan, about the doctors, about the care, about this facility.

[00:03:25] And there was nothing negative that I could find.

[00:03:30] So again, because I didn't quite trust that it could be so much superior to any other option, I just kept researching and the information just kept coming back consistent.

[00:03:40] That's another thing that is really important was the concierge service.

[00:03:45] And so, because I'm disabled, even with my partner here to help me, was really concerned about getting through airports, about getting here from my home in the middle of the mountains in British Columbia.

[00:03:58] So, we were met at the meeting point by a lovely young lady who took us down to meet our driver, took us directly to the hotel, helped us in, helped carry bags.

[00:04:12] It was just seamless and very very personable.

[00:04:16] Well, I had my first hip done yesterday and it's a totally new world.

[00:04:20] I can't feel anything from the hip, although I feel the surgery incisions and things.

[00:04:27] So, either tomorrow or the next day we'll have the second hip done.

[00:04:30] The care here is phenomenal.

[00:04:33] The physio team are amazing. The nursing staff are absolutely wonderful.

[00:04:38] The operation went really well. It was so smooth.

[00:04:41] Everything was exactly on time.

[00:04:43] They were here to pick me up in the morning the minute they said they were going to be.

[00:04:48] They wheeled me down in the gurney and the prep team downstairs were just phenomenal.

[00:04:54] And laying on that gurney, of course, it's very cold and they put a warmer on me, like an almost like a big hair dryer.

[00:05:03] This is a hard operation. But, I chose it and I made the best decision.

[00:05:08] The exercises that they gave me to do got these muscles working again.

[00:05:16] And as soon as the muscles work, you can stand up. And then once you can stand up, you can get your balance, get settled, but it hurts, but it hurts like it should cuz you just had your hips replaced.

[00:05:32] This would not be possible if it wasn't for the team.

[00:05:38] From my first questions all the way to check out, they have been there every step.

[00:05:46] I think it's the best decision that I could have made. And yes, I would recommend it to anyone.

[00:05:51] Good morning from the West Kootenay in British Columbia, Canada.

[00:05:55] My name is Maureen and barely 7 months ago I was completely bedridden.

[00:06:00] I couldn't barely get out of bed in the morning and to get around the house I needed help.

[00:06:05] I was in a wheelchair just to get around the house.

[00:06:07] I did a lot of research around the world to see where I could have both of my hips replaced because I couldn't wait for our system.

[00:06:12] I found Turan and Turan and here I am.

[00:06:17] Today was a fairly normal day. I jumped out of bed this morning at about 7:00 and I went upstairs in my house to have an online yoga class and then I was feeling so good I had a strength class after that.

[00:06:30] Came downstairs and had some breakfast, a cup of coffee and decided to come out and do nine holes of golf this morning.

[00:06:37] I can only do nine because on the way home I have to go shopping, then I have to get home and unload the groceries and set the table because I'm having a dinner party for 12 tonight.

[00:06:49] This is a pretty normal day for me and when you consider that in February I couldn't even get out of bed it's an absolute miracle.

[00:06:58] I have such profound thanks for Dr. Turan and the whole team at Turan and Turan for the life you've given me. There just aren't words for how successful this operation has been. Thank you.
