MICRODERMABRASION - General Info
Microdermabrasion is a skin-freshening technique that helps repair facial skin that takes a beating from the sun and the effects of aging. The plastic surgeon uses a device like a fine sandblaster to spray tiny crystals across the face, mixing gentle abrasion with suction to remove the dead, outer layer of skin. As with other skin rejuvenation techniques, more than one treatment may be needed to reduce or remove fine wrinkles and unwanted pigmentation.

The Procedure
The hand piece emits crystals onto the surface of the skin, resulting in a gentle abrasion or "polishing" process. Each treatment takes from 30 minutes to an hour. The number of treatments recommended for maximal results can range between 5 and 12, spaced from 2 to 3 weeks apart. Maintenance of results requires periodic repeat treatments after the initial regimen is completed. Microdermabrasion may be combined with a light chemical peel to increase the effect. The best candidates for microdermabrasion are women and men who have:

  • Good skin tone
  • Good health
  • Realistic expectations

Results
The effects of microdermabrasion are not as dramatic as those of laser resurfacing, but recovery time after the procedure is also much shorter. Although there may be some redness afterwards, most patients can return to work immediately. As a result of microdermabrasion Your skin will feel vibrant and healthy and you will notice an immediate difference in your softer, smoother skin. A series of microdermabrasion treatments can help reduce the look of fine lines and superficial wrinkles, remove thickened skin areas due to the impact of environmental factors and reduce the appearance of blemishes caused by sun damage. Additionally, microdermabrasion can reduce the appearance of open pores by unclogging sebum (oil) build-up and eliminate white and black heads.

Patients have attributed the sensation of a microdermabrasion treatment to a slight windburn. Although depending upon the level that you wish to reach the discomfort is usually quite minimal, if at all. The treatments typically last 20 to 30 minutes for the face, if your treatment includes the neck and upper chest area, it may last up to an hour.

A normal course of microdermabrasion treatments varies between 4 to 8 at approximately 2 week intervals. It is recommended that you schedule an additional treatment every 1 to 3 months to maintain your skin in excellent condition. Most patients actually feel and see a difference just after one or two treatments but schedule additional treatments to increase this improvement.

After The Treatment

  • A rehydrating toner, moisturizer and sunscreen is applied to your skin prior to leaving the surgeon or dermatologist's office.
  • Some redness is expected after a treatment, however this is not likely to persist more than a few hours. The sensation of having a mild windburn or sunburn will also pass after a few hours. Applying a high quality moisturizer to re-hydrate the skin at this point will help.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure for 7 days after a treatment. We do stress the importance of using a high quality sun protectant product as well as minimizing sun exposure. Exposure to UV radiation is one of the key factors in speeding the skin aging process.
  • Avoid Alpha-Hydroxy Acid, Glycolic Acid products and skin exfoliation scrubs for 72 hours both before and after a treatment.
  • Avoid full face make-up, i.e. liquid foundations or pressed powder foundations for 24 hours after a treatment. Eye make-up, lipstick etc. may be applied immediately after a treatment.

CHEMICAL PEELING - General Info
Chemical peeling is a technique used to improve the appearance of the skin which is typically performed on the face, neck or hands. In this treatment, a chemical solution is applied to the skin that causes it to "blister" and eventually peel off. The new, regenerated skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin. The new skin is also temporarily more sensitive to the sun.

The Procedure
A chemical peel can be performed in a doctor's office or in a surgery center as an out-patient procedure. At the time of treatment, the skin is thoroughly cleansed with an agent that removes excess oils, and the eyes and hair are protected. One or more chemical solutions - an alpha hydroxy acid, such as glycolic acid, salicylic acid, or lactic acid; trichloroacetic acid (TCA); or carbolic acid (phenol) - are used. Dermatologic surgeons are well qualified to select the proper peeling agent based upon the type of skin damage present. During a chemical peel, the physician applies the solution to small areas on the skin. These applications produce a controlled wound, enabling new, refreshed skin to appear. Most patients experience a warm to somewhat hot sensation which lasts about five to ten minutes, followed by a stinging sensation. A deeper peel may require pain medication during or after the procedure.

Results
Chemical peeling is often used to treat fine lines under the eyes and around the mouth. Wrinkles caused by sun damage, aging and hereditary factors can often be reduced or even eliminated with this procedure. However, sags, bulges, and more severe wrinkles do not respond well to peeling and may require other kinds of cosmetic surgical procedures such as a face lift, brow lift, eye lift or soft tissue filler.Mild scarring and certain types of acne can also be treated with chemical peels. In addition, pigmentation of the skin in the form of sun spots, age spots, liver spots, freckles, splotching due to taking birth control pills, and skin that is dull in texture and color may be improved with chemical peeling.

Recuperation and Healing
Depending upon the type of peel, a reaction similar to a sunburn occurs following a chemical peel. Superficial peeling usually involves redness, followed by scaling that ends within three to seven days. Medium-depth and deep peeling may result in swelling and the presence of water blisters that may break, crust, turn brown, and peel off over a period of seven to 14 days. Some peels may require bandages to be placed on part or all of the skin that is treated. Bandages are usually removed in several days and may improve the effectiveness of the treatment. It is important to avoid overexposure to the sun after a chemical peel since the new skin is fragile and more susceptible to complications. The dermatologic surgeon will prescribe the proper follow-up care to reduce the tendency to develop abnormal skin color after peeling.

THERMAGE - General Info
How does the thermage treatment work?

Thermage is typically performed in a doctor's office and may take up to an hour, depending on the size and condition of the treated area. Thermage uses the FDA-approved ThermaCool device to deliver radiofrequency energy to heat collagen, a structural protein located in the deep dermal layers of the skin. Thermage helps build and contract collagen, which in turn tightens the appearance of the skin's surface. The Thermage device cools the skin surface to prevent damage while heating the collagen in the deeper skin layers with energy pulses. Each energy pulse takes two to seven seconds. The entire face may require between 400 and 500 pulses.

The skin tightens during the process and continues to tighten for three to six months afterward. Tightening results in smoother skin and a more youthful appearance. The procedure also stimulates your body's healing process, which produces more natural collagen.

Results may produce a refreshed looking appearance for up to two years. Of course, Thermage does not stop the aging process and results vary among patients. Because of the natural aging process, which reduces the amount of collagen in your skin, another Thermage treatment or an alternative cosmetic procedure may be needed eventually to reap the benefits of a refreshed appearance.

The experience is often described as a deep heating or mild pinching sensation. Discomfort is typically minimal, though you may be given oral pain medication, and a topical anesthetic ointment may be applied before treatment.

Best Candidates for Thermage
Thermage may work best for people who require 1-2 millimeters of tightening, compared with 1 or more centimeters offered in a brow-lift. Good candidates are healthy physically and psychologically. The best candidates are well educated about the procedure and have realistic expectations. Thermage is intended to help you look good for your age, with a refreshed facial appearance, especially around the eyes and forehead.

MANUAL LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE - General Info
Manual Lymphatic Drainage involves light, rhythmical massage that aids the body in collecting and moving lymphatic fluid, which plays a key role in delivering nutrients, antibodies and other immune constituents to the tissue cells of the body and removing debris such as toxins, cell waste and dead particles which are then cleansed by clusters of lymph nodes. MLD also works on the nervous system, lowering blood pressure, reducing stress and improving sleep patterns.

The tissue fluid, or prelymph, can become static due to toxic or mucus overload, a blocked lymph passageway as a result of surgery or injury, or certain congenital problems. This leads to the puffy appearance of certain parts of the body, a slow healing process, and problems such as allergies, headaches, sinusitis, low energy and frequent infections.

The tissue fluid, or prelymph, can become static due to toxic or mucus overload, a blocked lymph passageway as a result of surgery or injury, or certain congenital problems. This leads to the puffy appearance of certain parts of the body, a slow healing process, and problems such as allergies, headaches, sinusitis, low energy and frequent infections

A condition for which MLD has proved to be particularly effective is oedema (water retention) and, in its more serious form, lymphoedema - severe swelling of a limb or body part - which can lead in turn to cellulitis. MLD is an essential element of Complex Decongestive Therapy (CDT), which is used to treat lymphoedema and also includes exercises for the affected limb, compression bandaging, skin care and wearing compression garments. Thus lyphatic drainage is majorly applied as a chief constituent of the pre and post operation treatment.

MUD BATH - General Info
Mud have radioactive content and include high amount of carbon monoxide. Due to these characteristics, It’s effective on skin health, skin diseases, stress, obesity and rheumatic diseases.

It’s used in all chronic and degenerative rheumatic diseases. It regulates nervous system, improves regional superficial blood circulation, and has analgesic, sedative and muscle-relaxant antiinflammatory effect. Cellulite, bursitis, muscle pains, degenerative rheumatic diseases, calcification, low back problems, chronic vulva inflammation are indicated.

Peloids facilitate the extraction of toxic substances from the body by assisting the ion involvement and transformation. Besides its skin-stretching characteristics, peloids which are argued to have antibacterial effect have also effects similar to estrogen hormone.

Temperature loss is completely prevented in mud bath. Increase in urination is observed due to an improvement in kidney functions during mud bath. Mud develops depending on mineral waters, sea and lake waters and has organic "live", inorganic "non-living" characteristics. Depending on the physical and chemical conditions of the environment, it acquires hot or cold radioactive etc. characteristics. This kind of mud is called "PELLOID". Except for natural formations, FANGO-PARAFANGO etc. mud is obtained through mixing paraffin with volcanic elements and loess having sulfurous, clay and slity ingredients under certain conditions.

Breast Augmentation- General Info
The motives and reasons for considering the breast augmentation may vary, yet, the desire to promote the feeling of self-improvement mostly acts as an overriding drive for breast augmentation operations. The changes that occurs at the outside undoubtly have tremendous impact on the inside level as well. Breast augmentation, thus, is not just a simple means of changing how you look, it in fact represents, so much as the other surgical cosmetic operations does, a transformation in how you feel about yourself and your body.

Hence, the mainstay of the surgical operation lies in creating aesthetically pleasing breasts by inserting an implant behind each breast. Though, a relatively simple surgical procedure breast augmentation is performed under general anesthetic circumstances

The nature of breast implants

  • shell surface (smooth versus textured),
  • shape (round or anatomical shaped),
  • profile (low, moderate or high),
  • volume (size)
  • Placement of the breast implant
  • Subglandular
  • Subpectoral
  • Fully submuscular
  • Incisions
  • Transaxillary (armpit or axillary incision)
  • Peri-areolar ("nipple incision" or "areola incision")
  • Inframammary Fold (commonly referred to as the crease incision)
  • Abdominal (if abdominoplasty procedure is performed at the same time)
  • The type of the incision that can be applied to your specific case of operation will be discussed with your surgeon at your first visit.

Saline Implants
Saline breast implants vary in shell surface (smooth or textured), volume / size (number of cc), shell thickness, profile and shape (round or anatomical), and are even available as expandable implants. Most saline implants are single lumen (only one chamber), and filled during surgery. Pre-filled saline implants were available for a short time but are no longer on the market.

Saline implants are more likely than silicone to cause visible rippling and are generally firmer to the touch and less natural in appearance than silicone gel breast implants. In the event of a rupture of a saline breast implant, saline is released and the empty implant can be removed and/or replaced.

Silicone Gel Implants
Silicon is the second most abundant element on earth, next to oxygen. Silicones are actually a family of chemical compounds. They are made of silicon, which is a naturally occurring element found in sand, quartz, and rock. When silicon is mixed with oxygen, hydrogen, and carbon, it becomes silicone. Silicone can be made in a variety of forms. Low molecular weight silicones form oils. Middle molecular weight forms gels, and high molecular weight forms elastomers and rubbers. Silicone is found in many other types of implants, such as facial implants, artificial joints, drainage systems, etc. The silicone gel breast implants of today quite different than they were years ago. The early silicone gel breast implants had thick shells containing thick gels. These thick shells were replaces in the 70's and 80's with thinner shells.

Bra straps may leave indentations in their shoulders. And unusually large breasts can make a woman-or a teenage girl-feel extremely self-conscious.

Breast reduction, technically known as reduction mammaplasty, is designed for such women. The procedure removes fat, glandular tissue, and skin from the breasts, making them smaller, lighter, and firmer. It can also reduce the size of the areola, the darker skin surrounding the nipple. The goal is to give the woman smaller, better-shaped breasts in proportion with the rest of her body.

Techniques For Breast Reduction
Techniques for breast reduction vary, but the most common procedure involves an anchor-shaped incision that circles the areola, extends downward, and follows the natural curve of the crease beneath the breast. The surgeon removes excess glandular tissue, fat, and skin, and moves the nipple and areola into their new position. He or she then brings the skin from both sides of the breast down and around the areola, shaping the new contour of the breast. Liposuction may be used to remove excess fat from the armpit area.

In most cases, the nipples remain attached to their blood vessels and nerves. However, if the breasts are very large or pendulous, the nipples and areolas may have to be completely removed and grafted into a higher position. (This will result in a loss of sensation in the nipple and areolar tissue.)

Stitches are usually located around the areola, in a vertical line extending downward, and along the lower crease of the breast. In some cases, techniques can be used that eliminate the vertical part of the scar. And occasionally, when only fat needs to be removed, liposuction alone can be used to reduce breast size, leaving minimal scars.

Breast Lift- General Info
Breastlift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure to raise and reshape sagging breasts--at least, for a time. (No surgery can permanently delay the effects of gravity.) Mastopexy can also reduce the size of the areola, the darker skin surrounding the nipple. If your breasts are small or have lost volume--for example, after pregnancy--breast implants inserted in conjunction with mastopexy can increase both their firmness and their size. If you're considering a breast lift, this brochure will give you a basic understanding of the procedure--when it can help, how it's performed, and what results you can expect. It can't answer all of your questions, since a lot depends on your individual circumstances. Please be sure to ask your doctor if there is anything about the procedure you don't understand.

The Best Candidates For Breast Lift
Breast lift can enhance your appearance and your self-confidence, but it won't necessarily change your looks to match your ideal, or cause other people to treat you differently. Before you decide to have surgery, think carefully about your expectations and discuss them with your surgeon.

The best candidates for mastopexy are healthy, emotionally-stable women who are realistic about what the surgery can accomplish. The best results are usually achieved in women with small, sagging breasts. Breasts of any size can be lifted, but the results may not last as long in heavy breasts.

Many women seek mastopexy because pregnancy and nursing have left them with stretched skin and less volume in their breasts. However, if you're planning to have more children, it may be a good idea to postpone your breast lift. While there are no special risks that affect future pregnancies (for example, mastopexy usually doesn't interfere with breast-feeding), pregnancy is likely to stretch your breasts again and offset the results of the procedure.

Face Lift-Rhytidectomy- General Info
This operation is done to tighten the loose skin of the face and neck. It does not remove fine wrinkle lines, these require resurfacing of the skin. The forehead and eyelids are not tightened by a facelift. At the same time as facelift the surgeon can correct other cause of fullness in the face and neck. One of the most difficult area to treat is the nasolabial fold, the crease between the nose and the corner of the mouth.

Classical Face-Lifts(Rhytidectomy)
In rhytidectomy, generally the surgeon separates the skin from the fat and muscle below. Fat may be trimmed or suctioned from around the neck and chin to improve the contour. The surgeon then tightens the underlying muscle and membrane, pulls the skin back, and removes the excess. Stitches secure the layers of tissue and close the incisions; metal clips may be used on the scalp.

Endoscopic Face-Lifts
For those looking to keep their youthful look but aren't willing to wait until they really need a full face lift, a mini face lift is the answer. It's a short and safe operation that can provide specific results that keeps your look youthful and energetic without making it obvious that you've undergone surgery. It can't solve all of your problems but it can fix the ones that are beginning to show at any age.

The classical method for a face lift requires an incision around the ears and hairline to pull back the skin. This incision may be problematic in case of infections and in occurrence of coincidental diseases, such as diabetes. The endoscopic face lift method provided an alternative to a deeply invasive face lift. An endoscope is a small probe with a television attachment at the tip that transmits visuals from inside the body to a screen for the surgeon to watch. For an endoscopic face lift, only four or five small incisions are required instead of several long incisions. The endoscope is inserted into one incision, while an operating probe is inserted into another. The surgeon controls both via the television screen and can modify the muscle and tissue structure beneath the skin without the need for more invasive techniques.

Mini-Face Lifts
Mini face lift is like a traditional face lift in that incisions are required along the hairline or near the ears in order to help pull back skin and reconstruct facial muscles. The difference is in the numbers: a mini face lift procedure uses fewer and smaller incisions. Though this means that the results are less dramatic than a traditional face lift, it's a very attractive option for those with specific facial enhancement needs. A surgeon can target these problem areas with the right kind and size of incision. By using fewer incisions, the recovery time and number of complications associated with the surgery are reduced significantly.

Brow Lift - Forehead Lift- General Info
Brow lift (forehead lift) is a plastic surgery procedure which will raise your eyebrows to a higher and more aesthetic position. It will also improve lateral hoods (which are the droopy flaps of skin that hang over the outside corner of your eyes. Plastic surgery of your forehead will also soften your horizontal forehead wrinkles and the scowl lines between your eyebrows.

Forehead lift is most commonly performed in the 40-60 age range to minimize the visible effects of aging. However, it can also help people of any age who have developed furrows or frown lines due to stress or muscle activity. Individuals with inherited conditions, such as a low, heavy brow or furrowed lines above the nose can achieve a more alert and refreshed look with this procedure.

The Tecniques Of Brow Lift Surgery
There are three types of brow-lift surgery techniques. These, as explained below respectively, are;

Coronal Forehead Lift
This technique involves an incision across the top of the head, from ear to ear. Through this incision, the surgeon can alter the muscles (frontalis, procerus, and corrugators) that cause horizontal forehead wrinkles and scowling. After performing this, about a 1-2 cm strip of your scalp is removed and so the remaining scalp is sewn together. This technique is the oldest and most reliable technique in brow lift surgery. The main disadvantage is that you will be numb on the top of your head for about six months, after which time the sensation usually returns. This technique also raises your hairline, which can be a problem for those with a high forehead who also wear their hair back. The advantages of this technique are that it is lasting (it will not have to be repeated as you age, with very rare exceptions). Also the scars are concealed behind the hairline and are not seen after they heal (unless you are a man with a receding hairline, in which case you should not have this kind of brow lift.

Endoscopic Forehead Lift
This technique involves four to six short (one inch) incisions behind your hairline. this procedure can now be performed as an endoscope brow lift (s) or endo brow lifts which uses smaller incisions behind the hairline resulting in a significantly lower degree of wound healing and scarring. InEndoscopic eye brow lift (s) surgery, by the utilization of a small fiber optic probes with cameras at the tip (endoscope) ,surgeon manages to view the exact plane beneath the skin, scalp, and subcutaneous tissues. Generally this procedure involves making between three to five small incisions the hairline Tissue is released and repositioned in an upward fashion. A "muscle sectioning procedure" is performed in the central portion of the forehead during endoscopic visualization. The hairline is slightly raised and the eyebrows and redundant eyelid skin are repositioned upwards concurrently. Also, during the endoscopic procedure the forehead glabellar muscles are trimmed. From an aesthetic perspective, it is beneficial to reduce or even eliminate the ability of these muscles to function.Compared to the traditional coronal brow lift, this procedure is minimally invasive. The utilization of smaller incisions minimizes the chance of infection, and consequently increases healing times following the operation. The ensuing scars are smaller and much less noticeable as they hide reasonably well in the confines of the hair. Additionally, scalp tissue is essentially not removed in the procedure and there is relatively little to no hair loss. Overall, Endoscopic brow lifts can produce the same results of a traditional lift with fewer complications. Morever, Unlike coronal lifts, endo lifts do not cause temporary numbness on top of your head.

Subcutaneous Forehead lift
This technique is the least commonly performed of all brow lifts. In this technique, your plastic surgeon makes an incision across the top of your forehead, where your hairline begins. All of the muscle alterations that are performed through a coronal lift are possible through this operation. Also, your excess skin is removed. Because the incision is in front of the hairline, your hairline will not be moved higher (unlike the other two techniques). Also, you will not have numbness on top of your scalp. The major disadvantage of this technique is that it leaves a scar across the top of your forehead, which can be highly visible (see brow lift photos). To conceal your scar, you will need to wear your hair forward. If you are wearing your hair forward, then it doesn't matter as much how high your hairline is because your hairline will not be visible. Hence, you could have had a coronal lift or endo lift in the first place.

Lateral Brow Lift
This simple procedure targets only the outer brow, and is ideally suited to prospective patients who are only concerned with the drooping of the ends of the eyebrows. During a lateral brow lift, incisions are placed in the hairline at the temples towards the sides of the face. The lateral brow lift removes excess skin, lifting the outer corners of the forehead. This procedure is performed on an outpatient lasting from 20-60 minutes. Local anesthetic with light sedation is normally employed.

Mini Brow Lift
Known as a minimally invasive brow lift that helps to tighten the skin and muscles in the forehead. Mini Brow Lift targets the same areas as the coronal and endoscopic brow lift procedures. However, mini-brow lift is highly recommended for patients whose frown lines and drooping brow are not as pronounced. The procedure involves making small incisions usually no longer than two inches that are hidden behind the hairline. Surgeons can disconnect the fibrous connections of the brow from the skull beneath. This allows the forehead skin to be pulled back and excised to adjust the smoothness of the forehead. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis with the operation usually lasting 45 to 90 minutes. Local or general anesthetic is employed in combination with sedation.

Lip Augmentation- General Info
Lip augmentation creates fuller, plumper lips and reduces fine wrinkles around the mouth. Lips may be injected with collagen or with fat transferred from another site in the patient’s body. Both liquid collagen and fat are absorbed and repeat treatments are necessary to maintain results. Newer, longer-lasting options include implantable materials like AlloDerm and SoftForm.

Technique
A natural or synthetic biocompatible material, or the patient’s own fat, is injected or implanted in the lips. One injection is usually sufficient to produce the desired result, which may be temporary, depending on the material used. Injections may need to be repeated periodically. Proper placement of the injected material is important. AlloDerm, a natural collagen sheet made from donated skin, is inserted through tiny incisions inside the corners of the mouth. Once the AlloDerm implant is in place, it eventually becomes integrated with the natural tissues. Gore-Tex, SoftForm and soft ePTFE are other synthetic implant options.

Further options include

  • Autologen — injectable dermal implant material made from the patient’s own skin.
  • Dermalogen — injectable Human Tissue Matrix (HTM) procured from donor tissue.
  • Fascia — injectable donor tissue made from the dense white connective tissue that supports body structure. Can also be done as a surgical implant.
  • HylaForm — a crystal-clear injectable gel; the hyaluronic acid in Hylaform is similar to that naturally found in the body.
  • Radiance — calcium hydroxylapatite
  • Restylane — crystal-clear injectable gel; the hyaluronic acid in Restylane is very close to that naturally found in the body.
  • Another augmentation choice is laser lip rejuvenation, which tightens the natural collagen and elastic tissue beneath the lips.

Benefits

  • Immediate return to normal activities (one-day return if sedated) for nonsurgical procedures; depending on the procedure and materials used, recovery period is within a week for surgical procedures.
  • AlloDerm and Dermalogen do not require patients to provide donor tissue and are not rejected by the body, because they are human tissue. Usually they have a pliable, natural feel.
  • Gore-Tex implants are permanent, easily inserted and well tolerated by the body.
  • Temporary procedures like collagen or fat injection can be appealing to patients who want to experiment with a fuller-lipped look, but not necessarily commit to it.

Rhinoplasty-Nose Surgery- General Info
Rhinoplasty can reduce or increase the size of your nose, change the shape of the tip or the bridge, narrow the span of the nostrils, or change the angle between your nose and your upper lip. It may also correct a birth defect or injury, or help relieve some breathing problems.

The surgery for cosmetic or functional rhinoplasty can take two to three hours. The majority of cuts are located inside the nostrils, however in some situations a tiny incision may be made on the underside of the nose between the nostrils. The incisions heal fast and the scars are almost invisible. A cast will be put on your nose after the surgery and soft dressing may be placed inside the nostrils if there is any bleeding and could be removed on the same day or the next. In several days, if you had the stitches placed in your naIf you're considering rhinoplasty, this information will give you a basic understanding of the procedure-when it can help, how it's performed, and what results you can expect. It can't answer all of your questions, since a lot depends on the individual patient and the surgeon. Please ask your surgeon about anything you don't understand

The Highlights of the Rhinoplasty
The definition of rhinoplasty is, literally, shaping the nose. First, incisions are made and the bone and cartilage support system of the nose is accessed. The majority of incisions are made inside the nose, where they are invisible. In some cases, an incision is made in the area of skin separating the nostrils. Next, certain amounts of underlying bone and cartilage are removed, added to, or rearranged to provide a newly shaped structure. For example, when the tip of the nose is too large, the surgeon can sculpt the cartilage in this area to reduce it in size. The angle of the nose in relation to the upper lip can be altered for a more youthful look or to correct a distortion.

The tissues are then redraped over the new frame and the incisions are closed. A splint is applied to the outside of the nose to help retain the new shape while the nose heals. Soft, absorbent material may be used inside the nose to maintain stability along the dividing wall of the air passages called the septum. Alternatively, soft nasal supports that permit nasal breathing post-operatively can be placed.

What to Expect After the Surgery?
Immediately after surgery, a small splint will be placed on your nose to protect it and to keep the structure stable for at least five to eight days. If packing is placed inside the nose during surgery, it is removed the morning following the surgery. Your face will feel puffy, especially the first day after surgery. Pain medication may be required. Your surgeon will advise you to avoid blowing your nose for seven days after surgery. In the immediate days following surgery, you may experience bruising and minor swelling in the eye area. Cold compresses often reduce the bruising and discomfort. Absorbable sutures are usually used that do not have to be removed. Nasal dressing and splints are usually removed six or seven days after surgery.

It is crucial that you follow your surgeon's directions, especially instructions to keep your head elevated for a certain period after surgery. Some activities will be prohibited in the weeks after the procedure. Sun exposure, exertion, and risk of injury must be avoided. If you wear glasses, special arrangements must be made to ensure that the glasses do not rest on the bridge of the nose. Tape and other devices are sometimes used to permit wearing glasses without stressing the area where surgery was performed.

Otoplasty- Ear Surgery- General Info
For the most part, the operation is done on children between the ages of 4 and 14. Ear surgery on adults is also possible, and there are generally no additional risks associated with ear surgery on an older patient. Adults may also benefit from this procedure, which improves self-esteem with relative ease. Often, adults choose this surgery in conjunction with other facial plastic surgical procedures. Not only is it possible to "pin back" ears, but ears can also be reshaped, reduced in size, or made more symmetrical.

The Highlights of Otoplasty
General good health and realistic expectations are prerequisites. It is also important to understand the surgery. Otoplasty will not alter hearing ability. What is important for successful otoplasty is that the ears be in proportion to the size and shape of the face and head.

When considering otoplasty, parents must be confident that they have their child's best interests at heart. A positive attitude toward the surgery is an important factor in all facial plastic surgery, but it is especially critical when the patient is a child or adolescent.

Adult candidates for otoplasty should understand that the firmer cartilage of fully developed ears does not provide the same molding capacity as in children. A consultation with a facial plastic surgeon can help parents decide what is best for their child, not only aesthetically, but also psychologically and physically. Timing is always an important consideration. Having the procedure at a young age is highly desirable in two respects: the cartilage is extremely pliable, thereby permitting greater ease of shaping; and secondly, the child will experience psychological benefits from the cosmetic improvement.

Ear Pinning Technique
With this method, the ear is effectively drawn and held closer to the head, while the cartilage is reshaped and held together in a more pleasant form.

The surgery is performed under local anesthetic with sedatives for adults, and usually general anesthetic for children (unless they're exceptionally brave and calm). An incision shaped like an American football is made in the back of the ear. The skin is parted to reveal the underlying cartilage. This is when a suture is usually made to bring the ear closer to the head. Sometimes a greater shift can be achieved by cutting some of the cartilage away to provide more slack. Depending on the severity of the case, some permanent sutures may be required.

When the surgery is complete, the wound is closed and the ear is covered with a pressure bandage that goes around the entire head. The patient can get up and walk, but should be driven home by someone else. After a few days the large ungainly bandage is replaced with a light dressing. Stitches for the incision are removed after a few weeks along with the dressing. Most patients should return to school or work in a week, but should any activities that could bend the ear for a few months.

Eye Lid Surgery - Blepharoplasty- General Info
Eyelid surgery can correct drooping upper lids and puffy bags below your eyes - features that make you look older and more tired than you feel, and may even interfere with your vision. However, it won't remove crow's feet or other wrinkles, eliminate dark circles under your eyes, or lift sagging eyebrows. While it can add an upper eyelid crease to Asian eyes, it will not erase evidence of your ethnic or racial heritage. Blepharoplasty can be done alone, or in conjunction with other facial surgery procedures such as a facelift or browlift. Howvere, note that the eyelid surgery has its limitations and will NOT improve crow's feet, droopy eyebrows, scowl lines, and hoods that droop down from the outer corner of the eyelids. To improve these problems, you may need wrinkle treatments or a brow lift.

Eyelid Photosis- Dropping of upper eyelid
The upper eyelid drapes over the eye to protect and help keep the surface moist. Closed, the eye may be protected but you cannot see very much through the eyelid. To see you must lift the upper lid out of the way. The levator muscle performs most of the work to get the upper eyelid out of the way for vision. Ptosis of the eyelid means that it droops too low and cannot get out of the way enough for the eye to see. Elevation may be just enough for gaze towards the lower visual fields (towards the feet). Looking straight ahead, the lid may obstruct vision. In this first case (congenital simple ptosis), the upper lid covers half of the pupil. This patient compensated by lifting her eyebrow (frontalis muscle) to help with vision when looking up. As the day progressed and she tired, the lid got more and more in the way. Her problem has been there since birth.

Baggy Eye-Lids, Blepharoplasty for Eye Bag Remowal
The tissues under the eyes has a flat gently tense tone in youth. Age and other factors can let the muscles sag and fat bulge. Some call this protrusion blepharochalasis and more commonly called under eye bag or baggy eyelid. It is a very common condition seen with:

  • normal aging
  • fatigue or being tired
  • allergies
  • swelling
  • obesity
  • certain medical problems

The eyes are surrounded by protecting fat. The facial eyelid muscles and skin hold this retro-orbital fat in place resulting in a youthful line starting from the eyelashes to the cheek. The eyes are surrounded by protecting fat. The facial eyelid muscles and skin hold this retro-orbital fat in place resulting in a youthful line starting from the eyelashes to the cheek. Gravity and the wear of time can make all facial tissues sag. Under eye bags form from the fat gentle pressure on this lax muscle, ligament, and skin wall. In some cases there is extra fat behind the support wall creating the baggy eyelids. Sometimes there is relaxed extra skin (dermochalasis) causing the eye bags. At other times the lid muscles are just thickened. Upper eyelid bags can be the result of drooping eyebrows. Blepharoplasty for eye bag removal depends on the individual problem(s). Blepharoplasty sculpture is often a blend of individual elements to address each component of what has caused the baggy eyelids.

Lower Eye-Lid Surgery
For lower eyelid surgery, often an incision is hidden just below the lower lashes. Through this incision, excess skin, muscle and fat are removed, or fat may be redistributed to eliminate puffiness or bulges. Other adjustments to correct special problems such as muscle laxity may be performed. As in upper eyelid surgery, the incision is well camouflaged by natural creases.

Upper Eye-Lid Surgery
For upper eyelid surgery, generally an incision is hidden within the natural fold of the upper eyelid and extends slightly beyond the outside corner into the laugh lines or other existing creases. Through this incision, excess skin and fatty tissue are removed. Because the incision follows the natural contour of the upper eyelid, it will be well camouflaged when heal.

Chin Augmentation- General Info
Bone structure is essential to an important part of an attractive, balanced face. Chin implants can improve this underlying structure, and better balance the facial features for a dramatically more attractive look. This operation is often performed at the time of rhinoplasty to help to balance the facial proportions. It may be combined with facelift, liposuction or other facial implants as well.Chin implants may augment the jaw to correct problems with weak chins, sagging skin in the chin area, and improve the shape and balance of the face. Chin implants are made in various shapes and sizes. They are made out of both solid and semi-solid materials that have been used successfully for years.

The Implants/Grafts/Injectable Products
Autologous Fat Transfer (Fat Grafting): Fat Grafting or Fat Transfer is the procedure to remove surplus fat cells with meticulous extraction methods and to re-implant where needed - to the chin and other places such as the lips, nasolabials (mouth to nose folds), undereyes, cheeks, temples, etc. This is a very exciting procedure as it is not incredibly invasive, produces natural results, but does create a moderate amount of swelling

Cadaveric Tissue Grafts & Cultured Tissue: Cadaveric tissue grafts are derived from deceased donors. Although most of this tissue was "donated", some companies have chosen to profit by their donations.

AlloDerm (Lifecell Corp.):(technically) Acellular human cadaveric dermis) AlloDerm is made by LifeCell Corporation in Palo Alto, California. The Tissue Banks surgically remove a thin layer of skin tissue (an allograft) from the 'donor' at the time of death, place it into an antibiotic solution and transport it to LifeCell Corp. There, the allograft is processed by removing the epidermis and all of the cells in the dermis which may cause rejection. The resulting AlloDerm graft is the protein framework without any of the donor's DNA. This material is also used for dermal augmentation, to cover implants on the cheek, chin and nose, as well as augmentation of the lips (mobile soft tissue).

Apligraft: This product is cultured from infant foreskin cells and bovine (cow) collagen. The tissue is primarily used for the replacement of skin in patients needing reconstruction. Although, it has been used for soft tissue augmentation.

Silicone Implants: Solid silicone has been used as a material for facial implants since about 1956. The silicone facial implants are solid, yet flexible and very durable. They are manufactured in different durometers (degrees of hardness) to be soft or quite hard. These implants are designed to enhance soft tissue areas and not the underlying bone structure. They are usually easily removed as they are quickly encapsulated by scar tissue. Some surgeons affix chin implants to the bone by way of one or several titanium screws. When used for cosmetic purposes this implant rarely exhibits a biochemical reaction.

Botox- General Info
What is Botox?

The cosmetic form of botulinum toxin, often referred to by its product name Botox®, is a popular non-surgical injection that temporarily reduces or eliminates frown lines, forehead creases, crows feet near the eyes and thick bands in the neck. The toxin blocks the nerve impulses, temporarily paralyzing the muscles that cause wrinkles while giving the skin a smoother, more refreshed appearance. Studies have also suggested that Botox is effective in relieving migraine headaches, excessive sweating and muscle spasms in the neck and eyes.

Why Botox may work for you?
In clinical trials, nearly 90% of men and women surveyed rated the improvement in the appearance of frown lines between their brows as moderate to better 1 month after treatment. Results vary.

Results can last for up to 4 months, and may vary.

BOTOX® Cosmetic was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2002 for the temporary treatment of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in people ages 18 to 65, and almost 3.3 million procedures were performed in 2005 alone.

The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery ranked BOTOX® Cosmetic as the most popular physician-administered aesthetic procedure in the United States for the fourth year in a row (surgical and nonsurgical combined).

The Botox Application Process
Botox is applied by administering several tiny injections of BOTOX® Cosmetic directly into the muscles that cause those moderate to severe frown lines between the brows. Our doctor will determine where to administer the injections by examining your ability to move certain muscles in your brow area. The location, size, and use of the muscles that create a furrowed brow vary markedly among individuals. No anesthesia is required, although our doctor may choose to numb the area with a cold pack or anesthetic cream prior to injecting. Discomfort is usually minimal and brief. You can expect to be in and out of the physician’s office without downtime. You may see a marked improvement in the moderate to severe frown lines between your brows within days. Improvement may continue for as long as a month, and could last up to 4 months.

How Long does the effects of Botox last?
The effects from Botox will last four to six months. As muscle action gradually returns, the lines and wrinkles begin to re-appear and wrinkles need to be re-treated. The lines and wrinkles often appear less severe with time because the muscles are being trained to relax.

What are the side effects of Botox?
Temporary bruising is the most common side effect. Headaches, which resolve in 24-48 hours, can occur, but this is rare. A small percentage of patients may develop eyelid drooping. This usually resolves in three weeks. This development is usually caused by migration of the Botox and for this reason, you shouldn't rub the treated area for 12 hours after injection or lay down for three to four hours. There have been no allergies associated with Botox to date.

Tummy Tuck- Abdominoplasty- General Info
Abdominaplasty - Tummy Tuck can dramatically reduce the appearance of a protruding abdomen. Especially, abdominal deformities caused by pregnancies are well thretaed by tummy tuck. Mini tummy tucks, or partial abdominiplasty, is a similar procedure that targets the lower abdomen only. This procedure is much less invasive and shorter than a full tummy tuck. The result is an enhanced appearance and a significant increase in your self-esteem and confidence.

In abdominaplasty, generally, a horizontal incision is placed just within or above the pubic area. The length of the incision, which extends laterally toward the pelvic bones, depends largely on the amount of skin to be removed. The contour of this incision will vary somewhat according to the structure of your abdomen and the style of bathing suit or undergarments that you prefer. Your plastic surgeon will try to keep the incision within your bathing suit lines, but this may not always be possible.

In some cases when some patients having loose skin above the navel are involved, the surgeon may make a second incision around the navel so that the redundant skin above it can be pulled down. The excess abdominal skin is then removed. The position of the navel remains unchanged.Abdominaplasty can It can also be performed at the same time as other cosmetic procedures such as breast or facial surgery. Liposuction of the hips and other areas is commonly performed with an abdominoplasty.

The Best Candidates For Abdominaplasty
The best candidates for abdominoplasty are men or women who are in relatively good shape but are bothered by a large fat deposit or loose abdominal skin that won't respond to diet or exercise. The surgery is particularly helpful to women who, through multiple pregnancies, have stretched their abdominal muscles and skin beyond the point where they can return to normal. Loss of skin elasticity in older patients, which frequently occurs with slight obesity, can also be improved.
Patients who intend to lose a lot of weight should postpone the surgery. Also, women who plan future pregnancies should wait, as vertical muscles in the abdomen that are tightened during surgery can separate again during pregnancy. If you have scarring from previous abdominal surgery, your doctor may recommend against abdominoplasty or may caution you that scars could be unusually prominent.
Abdominoplasty can enhance your appearance and your self-confidence, but it won't necessarily change your looks to match your ideal, or cause other people to treat you differently. Before you decide to have surgery, think carefully about your expectations and discuss them with your surgeon

Calf Augmentation- General Info
Calf augmentation may be performed for cosmetic reasons, which can enhance one’s appearance and possibly boost self-esteem and self-confidence. However this procedure can also be done to help correct certain congenital and physical defects like Polio, Spina Bifida and Clubfoot. Calf augmentation is usually performed on an outpatient basis, allowing the patient to return home the same day. Downtime is minimal, however it is recommended that patients avoid any excessive walking for a few weeks following surgery. This surgical procedure involves the insertion of artificial implants within the calf muscles. This results in the appearance of more mass and definition to the calves. These artificial implants are made from silicone and come in a variety of shapes and sizes to bring about more natural-looking results. Fat augmentation may also be used to enhance the calves’ appearance or, in some cases, achieve a balanced look.

The Benefits of Calf Augmentation
Calf implants can make your legs look as if they have been working out. They add both mass and definition to the calves. Men typically undergo calf augmentation to emphasize bulk. Women undergo this procedure for anatomical balance, so that the lower leg is more proportionate to the thighs.Calf augmentation can be performed for cosmetic reasons, but can also be done to correct congenital and physical defects.

Here are some of the conditions that calf augmentation can correct. Polio Disease (Poliomyelitis): A disease that can leave one partially or completely paralyzed in the lower legs. Calf augmentation can help give more balance to the calf muscle area.Spina Bifida – a rare genetic birth defect that affects the complete development of the nervous system and can affect one’s mobility

Calf augmentation can help correct conditions where the calf muscle is smaller than one on the other leg because of nerve damage. This can bring about a more balanced leg appearance. Clubfoot - a birth defect that results in the foot being twisted out of position, with the heel and toe being turned inward. In certain cases, the condition can affect how calf muscles develop and end up with one muscle smaller than the other. Calf augmentation can aid in creating the natural anatomical balance one desires.

The Implants
Implants used in calf augmentation are solid, but pliable, and are mostly comprised of silicone. The feel of an implant designed for calf augmentation is that of a well-developed muscle. The implants come in varying sizes and shapes and should be fitted specifically to the individual who is requesting the calf augmentation to be certain that the "fit" is appropriate to the desired result. The purpose of a calf augmentation procedure has much to do with how the implant will be shaped.

Liposuction- General Info
During the past decade, liposuction, which is also known as "lipoplasty" or "suction lipectomy," has benefited from several new refinements. Today, a number of new techniques, including ultrasound-assisted lipoplasty (UAL), the tumescent technique, and the super-wet technique, are helping many plastic surgeons to provide selected patients with more precise results and quicker recovery times. Although no type of liposuction is a substitute for dieting and exercise, liposuction can remove stubborn areas of fat that don't respond to traditional weight-loss methods.

Tumescent Liposuction
The word "tumescent" means swollen and firm. By injecting a large volume of very dilute lidocaine (local anesthetic) and epinephrine (capillary constrictor) into subcutaneous fat, the targeted tissue becomes swollen and firm, or tumescent. The tumescent technique is a method that provides local anesthesia to large volumes of subcutaneous fat and thus permits liposuction totally by local anesthesia. The tumescent technique eliminates both the need for general anesthesia and need for IV narcotics and sedatives. The tumescent technique for liposuction 1) provides local anesthesia, 2) constricts capillaries and prevents surgical blood loss 3) provides fluid to the body by subcutaneous injection so that no IV fluids are needed.

Dry Technique
Dry Technique Dry Technique (no longer used) required general anesthesia. The dry technique derived its name from the fact that it did not use injections of local anesthesia into the fat before liposuction. This technique was abandoned because of the excessive blood loss it caused. Blood composed approximately thirty percent (30%) of the tissue that was removed by liposuction using the dry technique.

Wet Technique
Wet Technique also required general anesthesia. The wet technique required the injection of approximately 100 milliliters of local anesthesia containing epinephrine. Although the wet technique caused less blood loss than the dry technique, blood loss with the wet technique was still excessive and dangerous. Blood composed approximately 15% to 20% of the tissue removed by liposuction using the wet technique.

Ultrasonic Assisted Technique
Ultrasonic Assisted Liposuction (UAL) requires the use of a large volume of tumescent fluid and uses either a metal probe or metal paddle to deliver ultrasonic energy and heat into subcutaneous fat. Internal UAL is the term used to describe the technique where a long metal probe, which may be solid or hollow, is inserted into fat through a large incision. Among those surgeons who do internal UAL, most rely on the use of general anesthesia or heavy IV sedation. Internal UAL has largely been abandoned because of the risk of full-thickness skin burns and severe scaring.

Power Assisted Technique (PAL)
Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL) devices have recently become available. PAL devices use power supplied by an electric motor or compressed air to produce either a rapid in-and-out movement or a spinning rotation of an attached liposuction cannula. Advocates of PAL assert that it makes liposuction easier for the surgeon. While some liposuction surgeons have expressed enthusiasm about PAL, many others remain skeptical about any advantages of PAL. There are no objective scientific publications to support the enthusiastic claims made by manufacturers of PAL devices.

Arm Lift - Brachioplasty- General Info
Fluctuations in weight, growing older and even heredity can cause your upper arms to have a drooping, sagging appearance.

Exercise may strengthen and improve the underlying muscle tone of the upper arm, but it cannot address excess skin that has lost elasticity or underlying weakened tissues and localized fat deposits.

If the underside of your upper arms are sagging or appear loose and full due to excess skin and fat, an arm lift may be right for you.

An arm lift:

  • Reduces excess skin and fat between the underarm and the elbow
  • Reshapes your arm to result in smoother skin and contours
  • Results in a more toned and proportionate appearance

The Procedure:
The doctor begins by marking the area of excess skin, with the patient either standing or sitting. The anesthesia is administered. Incisions are made on the inner and under surface of the arm, most often in a zigzagged line. The pattern of skin removal usually follows an elliptical or triangular shape. Often some fat is suctioned at the same time. The surgical opening may run from the armpit to as low as the elbow.

While the excess skin and fat is removed, the remaining skin is stretched and sutured into place. Occasionally a drain is used to lead excess fluids from the site of incision, allowing the skin better to adhere to the tissue beneath. The incisions are then bandaged. An arm lift usually takes about two hours. After a monitored time in the recovery room, patients can usually go home the same day.

Liposuction Versus & Arm Lift:
The only time liposuction is a better choice is when there is a lot of fat, but the skin is tight. It is not a choice if your problem is due to loose skin. An arm lift is the best choice when the skin is loose.

Incision and Scars:
The greatest drawback of this operation is the scars. The scars extend from the armpit to the elbow, along the inside of the arm. This operation exchanges one cosmetic problem (loose skin) for another (scars). In general, those with very loose saggy skin are most likely to find this exchange worthwhile. Those with a small amount of looseness will probably not want the scars.

Thigh Lift- General Info
Candidates for the thigh lift are;

  • People whose weight is relatively stable.
  • Individuals with excess soft tissue along the inner or medial thigh region and/or the outer thigh.
  • Healthy individuals who do not have medical conditions that can impair healing or increase risk of surgery.
  • Non-smokers Individuals with a positive outlook and realistic goals for what thigh lift surgery can accomplish.
  • Individuals committed to leading a healthy lifestyle including proper nutrition and fitness.

What is the scope of thigh lift?
If the skin of the inner thigh sags or is droopy, a thigh lift is ideal as it will tighten up the skin and smoothen the contour of the inner thigh. Patients who have lost a lot of weight are also ideal candidates for an inner thigh lift, usually done in combination with other cosmetic surgery procedures.

What is the inner thigh lift stand for?
Stand in front of a mirror and pinch the skin of your inner thigh so that you lift the skin towards your groin. This approximates what a thigh lift can do for you.

How is the thigh lift performed?
First, aggressive liposuction is performed to decrease the weight and thickness of the thighs as much as possible. This maximizes the contouring benefit and reduces the weight of the tissue to be lifted thus minimizing complications. The thighs are "undermined" extensively where the skin is lifted from the underlying muscle so that it can be pulled up more effectively. Then, the excess skin and fat is removed at the hip level so as to hide the scars beneath your bikini or underwear. There are two types of body lifts. One entails a lifting of the buttocks and outer thighs tapering off into the inner thigh region. This is best performed on a patient who has minimal laxity of the abdomen or has already had an abdominoplasty. The second type involves combining the buttock and outer thigh lift with a tummy tuck. This is the more common approach since most people with laxity of the thighs and buttocks also have a loose abdomen. Once the redundant skin and fat is removed, the remaining tissues are tightened and sewn together. Several drainage tubes are placed to prevent fluid from collecting under the skin while you healing occurs.

Gynecomastia- General Info
What is Gynecomastia ?

Plastic surgery to correct gynecomastia is technically called reduction mammaplasty, and reduces breast size, flattening and enhancing the chest contours.

In severe cases of gynecomastia, the weight of excess breast tissue may cause the breasts to sag and stretch the areola (the dark skin surrounding the nipple). In these cases the position and size of the areola can be surgically improved and excess skin may be reduced.

What is gynecomastia surgery like?
If excess fatty and glandular tissue is the cause of the male breast enlargement, the surgery will seek to remedy this problem by cutting out the excess tissue with a scalpel and is usually followed by liposuction which involves the fatty cells being sucked out with small tubes inserted around the areola.

The surgery itself generally lasts an hour to an hour and a half and in most cases the patient will be out the door following the surgery. It is suggested that the patient then proceeds to walk around and stay active and to go back to work whenever he feels capable. It is, however, important to avoid exercise and strenuous activity involving the chest for 2-3 weeks following the surgery.

After about 3 weeks the patient should be feeling normal and able to continue their normal lives in hole. Some pains and loss of feeling has been known to occur for up to a year following the surgery in certain cases. For the most part, the surgery is quick and seamless with few side effects.

The Ideal Candidate for the Operation;
Firstly, the treatment is recommended most for healthy, emotionally stable men. Elastic skin which will form to the body’s new contours is also something that is evaluated prior to surgery. Healthy men who have sought to correct the problem first with dieting and weight loss are the ones who are generally first considered for Gynecomastia surgery.

Obese or overweight men who have not first attempted to correct the condition with exercise and weight loss are discouraged as the condition may be able to be treated without surgery in these individuals. Also, those who drink alcoholic beverages in excess, smoke marijuana, or take anabolic steroids should first stop any of these actions prior to considering surgery since any of these can lead to Gynecomastia and the condition may reduce when the consumption of these drugs is ceased.

Female Genital Surgeries- General Info
What is labioplasty ?

Labiaplasty also referred to as labioplasty, is a surgical procedure that will reduce and/or reshape the labia minora - the skin that covers the female clitoris and vaginal opening. In some instances, women with large labia can experience pain during intercourse, or feel discomfort during everyday activities or when wearing tight-fitting clothing. Others may feel unattractive, or wish to enhance their sexual experiences by removing some of the skin that covers the clitoris. The purpose of a labiaplasty is to better define the inner labia. During this procedure the urethral opening can be redefined, and if necessary improvements to the vagina may be made. The problem can be caused by genetics, sexual intercourse or difficulties in childbirth

Labia Minora (inner lips) Reduction - Many women dislike the large protuberant appearance of their labia minora. This may cause severe embarrassment with a sexual partner. The overly large labia minora can also result in constant irritation in tight pants. Surgical labial reduction can greatly improve the aesthetic appearance of the abnormally enlarged labis. Some women are born with large labia, others may develop this condition with childbirth or age.

Labia Majora (outer lips) Reduction - This common anatomical variation may be worsened by childbirth or by weight gain or loss. They may sometimes be improved by liposuction. In more severe cases, surgical reduction is necessary.

Vagionoplasty Operation
Vaginoplasty, sometimes referred to as rejuvenation of the vagina, is a procedure that can usually correct the problem of stretched vaginal muscles resulting from childbirth(s), and is a direct means of enhancing one’s sexual life once again. The procedure typically tones vaginal muscle, resulting in greater contraction strength and control, thereby permitting greater sensation during sexual experiences.

Hair Transplant- General Info
Hair follicles are not inhibited by DHT (dihydrotestosterone) because they lack the genetic instructions to be inhibited by DHT. They remain healthy permanently. Hair grafts from these DHT-resistant hairs are re-implanted into the balding and thinning areas of the scalp. This provides permanent hair since the donor grafts have healthy hair follicles which are genetically programmed not to shed. The follicles and hair are removed from one part of the head with either a tubelike instrument called a punch graft or with a scalpel. Stitches are used to close the opening made from removing the hair. The hair strands are then transplanted into tiny holes or slits in bald areas of the scalp. By virtue of this technique, a natural look on the forehead, abd a natural dense look on the top of the head can be achieved.

The Technique
Most micro-hair transplant procedures (individual hair micrograft restorations) use local anesthesia and are performed on an outpatient basis.. After approximately six weeks, the transplanted hair will fall out and be replaced about three months later when the new hair grows in. To achieve sufficient density, several sessions may be required. Transplantation is a progressive process requiring hundreds of micro-grafts, each of which will generally contain from one to three hairs mini-grafted from a donor site on the side or back of the head. They are randomly implanted in the bald (or thinning) area so that they will grow in a natural pattern and produce an undetectable result.

The Excision
The donor site is excised as an elongated fusiform ellipse of full-thickness scalp using a scalpel blade size 10 or 15.The resultant defect is closed using suture or skin staples, and the scar is minimal. Then, donor tissue is dissected carefully into the desired number of grafts, which can vary in size.

Micrografts and Macrografts
After anesthetizing the hair donation scalp site, a strip of scalp about ½" to 1" wide and 4 to 5" long is removed. Since the scalp is very elastic, the resultant gap is easily pulled together and sutured shut. The hair on the back of the head conceals the small thin suture line.
The surgery team then divides the donor hair strip, which contains thousands of hairs, into individual "grafts". Micro-grafts each contain 1 or 2 shafts of hair. Mini-grafts contain 3 to 8 shafts of hair per graft. With these techniques, the surgeon transplants as few as 1 or 2 hairs at a time, which creates a more natural look rather than the "toothbrush" or "plug" effect. These hair grafts are then implanted into recipient sites in the balding area. Micro-grafts are inserted into tiny punctures in the skin and mini-grafts are inserted into extremely small (0.5mm to 2mm) openings. This achieves a more natural appearance and is an improvement over previous techniques, where transplants were inserted into slits in the scalp. This often resulted in an abnormal, compressed hair. Recipient sites are made in several ways. Some physicians use punch holes, some use linear slits, and others use a "slot" method that creates a narrow, elongated oval incision. The goal of all these procedures is to obtain a more dense, natural appearance for the patient, while allowing the hair to grow in its natural manner.

Creating and Dissecting Grafts
The obtained grafts can be transplanted directly or cut into smaller grafts using a size 15 blade or razor blade. These round grafts can be cut into halves or quarters, or they can be dissected down to single hair grafts. Grafts harvested by strip harvesting can be cut to single grafts, minigrafts, or micrografts by using a size 15 blade or razor blade. Grafts obtained using an ellipse must be dissected using a size 15 blade. Most surgeons use magnifying loupes to aid the dissection of grafts. More recently, dissecting microscope has been used by some surgeons to aid graft dissection. It is chiefly acknowleded that follicular grafts, ie, those that are essentially a single follicular unit, offer better results.

Scalp Surgery
"Scalp reductions" or "lifts" consist of cutting out bald skin from the top of the head and stretching the hairy "sidewall" up over the crown. Some doctors are even doing complex surgery to take strips of hair from the sides of the head, swinging them into the front, and stitching them in place.

This procedure allows bald scalp areas to be reduced and is probably the most common hair restoration procedure other than transplantation. The scalp is usually somewhat loose and the balding area may be reduced. This can be very effective for persons with midline or posterior ("monk spot"). Most people have a limited amount of hair for transplantation and reducing the bald area reduces the amount of hair needed for transplants. Rather than increasing the hairs available, scalp reductions reduce the amount of scalp you have to cover with transplants. After the scalp reduction has healed, hair transplants are implanted to cover any scarring and to achieve the desired results of the patient.

VENEERS- General Info
Dental Veneers

Dental veneers (sometimes called porcelain veneers or dental porcelain laminates) are wafer-thin, custom-made shells of tooth-colored materials designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve your appearance. These shells are bonded to the front of the teeth changing their color, shape, size or length.

Dental veneers can be made from porcelain or from resin composite materials. Porcelain veneers resist stains better than resin veneers and better mimic the light reflecting properties of natural teeth. Resin veneers are thinner and require removal of less of the tooth surface before placement. You will need to discuss the best choice of veneer material for you with your dentist.

Why a porcelain veneer?
Porcelain veneers are an excellent alternative to crowns in many situations. They provide a much more conservative approach to changing a tooth's color, size, or shape. Porcelain veneers can mask undesirable defects, such as teeth stained by tetracycline, by an injury, or as a result of a root-canal procedure, and are ideal for masking discolored fillings in front teeth. Patients with gaps between their front teeth or teeth that are chipped or worn may consider porcelain veneers. Generally, veneers will last for many years, and the technique has shown remarkable longevity when properly performed.

What Types of Problems Do Dental Veneers Fix?
Veneers are routinely used to fix:

  • Teeth that are discolored – either because of root canal treatment; stains from tetracycline or other drugs, excessive fluoride or other causes; or the presence of large resin fillings that have discolored the tooth
  • Teeth that are worn down
  • Teeth that are chipped or broken
  • Teeth that are misaligned, uneven, or irregularly shaped (for example, have craters or bulges in them)
  • Teeth with gaps between them (to close the space between)

Who is a candidate for Dental Veneers?
Veneers, porcelain or plastic, are placed over the front teeth to change color shape of the teeth. Veneers are ideal for teeth that are too small, too big, or have uneven surfaces. It is very common for people to have imperfect teeth, either oddly shaped teeth, chipped teeth, crooked teeth, teeth with small holes in them, or an inappropriate sized tooth or teeth that have an odd appearance. Veneers solve such irregularities and create a durable and pleasing smile

What happens during the procedure?
Patients need three appointments for the entire procedure: diagnosis and treatment planning, preparation, and bonding.

Preparation of teeth: This appointment will take from one to two hours. To prepare the teeth for the porcelain veneers, the teeth are lightly buffed to allow for the small added thickness of the veneer. Usually, about a half a millimeter of the tooth is removed, which may require a local anesthetic. At this appointment, a mold is taken of the teeth, which is sent to the laboratory for the fabrication of the veneers.

Bonding of veneers: This appointment will take about one or two hours. First, the dentist places the veneers with water or glycerine on the teeth to check their fit and get a sense of the shade or color. While the veneers are resting on your teeth, view the esthetic results, and pay particular attention to the color. At this point, the color of the veneers can still be adjusted with the shade of the cement to be used. The color cannot be altered after veneers are cemented. To apply the veneer, the tooth is cleansed with specific chemicals to achieve a bond. Once a special cement is sandwiched between the veneer and tooth, a visible light beam initiates the release of a catalyst to harden the cement.

CROWNS- General Info
For teeth that are badly damaged, dental crowns can be an effective treatment option. The dental crown procedure utilizes tooth-shaped coverings made of metal, ceramic, or porcelain to restore strength and eliminate discomfort. In addition, dental crowns may be used to anchor a dental bridge or to cap a dental implant post.

Dental Crown Procedure
Typically, the dental crown procedure is completed in two stages. During the first stage, the dentist removes portions of your natural tooth’s structure to accommodate the dental crown. Surrounding teeth may also be prepared in this way. An impression is made and sent to the lab, where your dental crown is created in about two weeks. A temporary crown will be in place between visits to ensure the most natural look and feel. When you return to the dentist’s office, the temporary crown is removed and your new, custom dental crown is securely bonded in place.

Types of Dental Crowns
Dental crowns are made of metal, ceramic, or porcelain fused to metal. The type of crown utilized during your dental crown procedure will depend on your unique needs and goals, as well as the recommendation of your dentist.

Metal Crowns
Although their metallic color makes them a poor choice for highly visible teeth, dental crowns made of metal can be an ideal option for repairing decayed or damaged back teeth. They are extremely durable and can be applied with less removal of the natural tooth than all porcelain or ceramic crowns. Metal crowns may consist of various materials, including gold alloy, palladium, nickel alloy, or chromium alloy.

All Ceramic Crowns
All ceramic crowns may be made of porcelain, resins, or dental ceramic materials. They create an extremely natural-looking appearance and are typically used on front teeth. The tooth-colored ceramic material is translucent, like the enamel of your natural teeth, and size and shade can be carefully matched to complement the rest of your smile. However, ceramic dental crowns are not as resilient as metal crowns and do not function as well on back teeth, which sustain a lot of pressure from biting and chewing.

Porcelain Crowns
Dental crowns made of porcelain fused to metal are stronger than all-ceramic versions and more aesthetically pleasing than those made of metal. However, their metal shell gives porcelain fused to metal crowns an opaque appearance. Because they lack the reflective quality of natural teeth, porcelain fused to metal crowns are not as discreet as all ceramic crowns. Additionally, over time, a thin metal band may be visible along the gum line with this type of crown.

Zirconia Crowns
Zirconia crowns can look beautiful and very natural. Zirconia is an extra tough ceramic material, and it can be made extra thin. They have no metal in them, and can be made translucent or opaque, depending on the demands of the situation. If they are bonded onto the teeth, and not just cemented with conventional dental cement, they won't show a black line at the gumline years later, the way porcelain fused to metal crowns do.

The crown consists of two separate components, the core and the porcelain. The Zirconia Core is designed to be as resilient as any metal copings used for traditional PFM crowns. And over the years the Zirconia Crown has been proved as a superior replacement for crowns of similar composition, such as the Java and the Procera Crown. It is also a desirable replacement for PFM crowns, especially for patients with metal allergies.

IMPLANTS- General Info
Dental Implants

A dental implant is a small, sturdy, titanium post that acts as the root structure would for a natural tooth. A dental implant is placed into your upper or lower jaw bone. After the bone has grown around the implant, implants can hold a crown, bridge or over-denture just like roots hold natural teeth in place. Implants are very durable and can last a lifetime. They require the same maintenance as natural teeth; this includes brushing, flossing and regular dental check-ups. A single tooth or a full arch of teeth which have been lost due to injury or disease can be replaced with dental implants. Titanium metal is used because of its compatibility with bone and oral tissues.

Replacing a Multiple Teeth with Implants
If you are missing a single tooth or mulitple teeth, dental implants are the way to go. They are the most natural looking way to replace missing teeth. Dental implants help maintain the integrity of the jawbone and prevent deterioration of the bone that can take place with missing teeth. It’s important to replace missing teeth as soon as possible for the full function of chewing and for a healthy, happy smile.

Reasons you may want to consider dental implants:

  • To replace one or more teeth
  • To provide support for a partial denture
  • To increase the support and stability of full upper or lower denture
  • To enhance chewing comfort
  • To increase confidence while smiling, talking and eating
  • To improve your overall psychological health
  • To improve esthetic appearance and regain over all confidence

FRAMEWORK OF DENTAL IMPLANT TREATMENT
(Implants require 2-3 visits during a 3-9 month period)

STAGE- I
Stage-I involves 7 days at Princess Hotel
STAGE- II
3-4 Months later, Stage-II begins.
Stage-II involves 10 days stay at Princess Hotel

PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION
THE RESTORATIVE PHASE

Panaromix x-Ray is taken and the necessary lab tests are conducted to check the bone structure and determine the suitable implant treatment. If there is not any sufficient bone structure, bone grafting can be necessiated. (The implants are placed after the osseintegration phase which takes about 3 months)

Usually 3 to 4 months after the implants were first placed, you return to our clinic so that final teeth can be fitted. The reason why it takes from 3 to 9 months between these two stages is that an integration period is needed for the implant to fully assimilate with the bone. During this time bone cells grow into the micro-pores created on the surface of the implant. It is a natural process and its duration varies between individuals.

Any stitches are removed a week to ten days later. You won’t be left toothless as we fit you with temporary teeth. During that time patients remain under our constant care.

HEALING PERIOD
WHICH BRANDS WE USE ?

The healing period lasts for about 3 months. During this time bone cells grow into the micro-pores created on the surface of the implant. This process is called osseointegration, and ensures the implants fix in place and become able to support a normal biting load long-term without any damage.

We use BIOHORIZON titanium implants which is an American brand that has a long-standing reputation in dental implants.

BRIDGES- General Info
Bridges are commonly used to replace one or more missing teeth. They span the space where the teeth are missing. Bridges are cemented to the natural teeth or implants surrounding the empty space. These teeth, called abutments, serve as anchors for the bridge. A replacement tooth, called a pontic, is attached to the crowns that cover the abutments. As with crowns, you have a choice of materials for bridges. Your dentist can help you decide which to use, based on the location of the missing tooth (or teeth), its function, aesthetic considerations and cost. Porcelain or ceramic bridges can be matched to the color of your natural teeth.

The procedures involved in making a bridge are very similar to those for making a crown. Bridges can be made from the same materials as crowns - full porcelain, porcelain fused-to-metal, and all metal. At least two appointments are necessary. At the first visit, your dentist will prepare the teeth next to the missing tooth for crowns. An impression of the prepared teeth will be made and a temporary bridge will be placed. At the subsequent visit, your dentist will fit and adjust the bridge and then cement it in place.

How is a dental bridge constructed?
As the name of this appliance implies, the bridge is made out of three pieces that fit into the open space in the mouth, "bridging" the gap. Most bridges are made of a pontic tooth (or false tooth), held together by two crowns (a "cap" that covers the tooth, approximating its normal size and shape). This trio is then attached (cemented) to the abutment teeth (the surrounding teeth of each side of the gap).

Types of Dental Bridges
Traditional Fixed Bridge

A dental bridge is a false tooth, known as a potic, which is fused between two porcelain crowns to fill in the area left by a missing tooth. There two crowns holding it in place that are attached onto your teeth on each side of the false tooth. This is known as a fixed bridge. This procedure is used to replace one or more missing teeth. Fixed bridges cannot be taken out of your mouth as you might do with removable partial dentures.

Resin Bonded Bridges
The resin bonded is primarily used for your front teeth. Less expensive, this bridge is best used when the abutment teeth are healthy and don't have large fillings. The false tooth is fused to metal bands that are bonded to the abutment teeth with a resin which is hidden from view. This type of bridge reduces the amount of preparation on the adjacent teeth.

Cantilever Bridges
In areas of your mouth that are under less stress, such as your front teeth, a cantilever bridge may be used. Cantilever bridges are used when there are teeth on only one side of the open space. This procedure involves anchoring the false tooth to one side over one or more natural and adjacent teeth.

TEETH WHITENING- General Info
About Teeth Whitening

Teeth bleaching is chemical process used to lighten the color of the patient's teeth. The procedure can be performed entirely in the cosmetic dentist's office or it can be performed by the patient in their home, using a materials provided by the dentist. The home method is often used because it saves the patient from having to make an office visit for each treatment.

Before the patient embarks on the home teeth whitening regimen, the cosmetic dentist creates a custom mouth tray for the patient. The custom tray is a critical component of the treatment. It ensures that the correct amount of whitening solution is used and that the patient's teeth are properly exposed to the whitening solution. The custom made mouth tray provides for a better fit than a one-size-fits-all mouth tray to help increase the margin of patient safety.

How white your teeth can become from bleaching and whitening is a common question with a very subjective answer. Some whitening procedures claim they can whiten your teeth by up to nine shades, but that is highly unlikely. Just a change of two or three shades will make a significant difference in just about anyone's smile. There is no one standard system in the dental field to measure and determine tooth color. The most often heard about, however, is the Vita shade guide. This guide divides tooth color into four basic shade ranges:

  • reddish brown
  • reddish yellow
  • gray
  • reddish gray

In the A range there are five levels of darkness. Ranges B, C and D, each have four levels.
Not all of your teeth are the same natural color. Usually your eye teeth tend to be darker than the others, your front teeth are typically the whitest, and molars tend to be a shade between the two. The goal for everyone is to achieve their individual optimum whiteness while still looking natural. During your first consultation for tooth whitening, your dentist will go over what you personally can expect for your specific smile. How white teeth will become from a given procedure will vary from person to person. The structure of your teeth and the type of procedure implemented will affect the outcome.

The following chart will give you some idea of how to compare the two most popular methods for tooth whitening. As everyone's circumstances are different, both options should be further discussed with your cosmetic dentist prior to making a decision.

Zoom Tooth Whitening System
The Zoom! Advanced Power In-Office Whitening System is the newest and most advanced tooth whitening procedure available. It's safe effective and fast, very fast. In just over an hour, your teeth will be up to eight shades whiter. It is ideal for anyone looking for immediate results. The convenience of this compared to days of wearing trays and gradual whitening makes it the perfect choice for the busy individual.

The Zoom! Advanced Power Whitening procedure is simple. It begins with a short preparation to isolate your lips and gums. The clinician then applies the Zoom! Advanced Power Whitening Gel, which is activated by a specially designed light. A five-minute fluoride treatment completes the procedure. You'll be amazed with the results. In most cases, teeth get even whiter the first few days after the procedure.

Weight Loss Surgery

GASTRIC BAND OPERATION- General Info
Gastric banding is a type of weight loss surgery where the size of the stomach is reduced using a band so that only small meals can be eaten and you feel fuller soon. The procedure involves placing an adjustable band around the upper part of your stomach to create a pouch. The pouch fills up quickly and the food passes slowly through a gap, formed by the band, into the rest of the stomach. The food then passes normally through the rest of the digestive system. The operation usually requires an overnight stay in hospital and is done under general anaesthesia. This means you will be asleep during the procedure.

What is a Lap Band?
"Lap-Band System" is the brand name of the FDA-approved, adjustable gastric band used in the procedure. Most simply, a Lap-Band is a silicone belt that goes around the top of the stomach. This results in the ability to control your hunger and achieve a "feeling of fullness," or satiety. Ultimately, you eat much less and should feel full sooner.A key component of the Lap-Band System is its adjustability. The band is connected to a port, which enables the device to be inflated over time to expedite the weight loss.

Who are the candidates of the Lap Band system?
The NIH (National Institutes of Health) requirements for Lap-Band surgery are the same as for any other weight loss surgery. These criteria were originally set in the early 1990s and have not changed. If your BMI, or body mass index, is between 35 and 39, then you must also have associated severe medical problems, or co-morbid conditions, in order to be a candidate for the Lap-Band. These conditions usually include diabetes, hypertension, or high cholesterol. But if your BMI is greater than 40, then it is not required that there be any associated medical problems. Most insurance companies also require a history of previous attempts at weight loss. How stringent these requirements are can differ from one insurance company to another. Many people do not meet the NIH requirements or do not have the insurance benefit for weight loss surgery, but they may still be able to pursue the procedure by paying for it themselves.

How is the "Lap Band" is placed in the body?
After performing a series of small incisions, your surgeon would use a small camera, called a laparoscope, to visualize placement of the Lap-Band. The Lap-Band is placed around the top of the stomach and secured in place with sutures. The port is then placed underneath the skin on the top part of the abdomen. Surgery should take only about an hour, and an overnight stay in the hospital may or may not be required.

What is laparoscopic surgery?
Laprascopic surgery is performed through a small tube. Many people are of the opinion that there is only one incision. This is not the case. Laprascopic surgery has normally three incisions. The smallest incision (about 2cm) is located in the navel so as to disguise any post operative scarring, through this opening a tube is inserted that inflates the stomach cavity like a balloon. This gives the surgeon space within the tummy cavity to see clearly and be able to carry out the procedure with ease and safety. Two incisions 2 - 3 cm long and located on either side of the tummy (depending on the procedure). One is for the camera lens which places the whole view of the procedure up on a wide screen TV in front of the surgeon. The second is for the instruments which are used to carry out the procedure. The advantages of a laprascopic procedure are the fast recovery, rapid healing process, and also the lack of scars afterwards.

How does the port works?
Injecting saline into the port inflates the band, making the passage to the lower part of the stomach smaller, which further restricts food intake. Fluid can easily be removed in the doctor's office if it is too tight

After Lap-Band Surgery: Recovery & Aftercare
Following surgery, you should be able to return to work within a week, with minimal discomfort. You will need to follow a nutrition plan (which may include vitamin supplements) prescribed by your surgeon and/or nutritionist. The nutrition plan will likely include a liquid diet for a few weeks, until you can tolerate soft foods, and later solid foods. A specific exercise program, as well as behavioral-modification therapy, may also be recommended.

Frequent office visits are mandatory to adjust the band. Our assistant nurse in UK-Harley Street or his assistant will be able to inject the port whilst you are in UK. On average, patients require six to eight adjustments of the band during the first 18 months following Lap-Band surgery.

Patients typically lose 50% to 60% of their excess body weight within two years after the procedure. Additional plastic surgery may be indicated, depending on how much weight is lost..

Lasik Surgery

CustomVUE LASER VISION CORRECTION- General Info
What is CustomVue Laser Correction?

Custom LASIK surgery, also known as wavefront LASIK or wavefront-guided LASIK, uses 3-dimensional measurements of how your eye processes images to guide the laser in re-shaping the front part of the eye (cornea).

With custom LASIK, your eye's ability to focus light rays is measured, and a 3-D map is created that demonstrates irregularities in the way your eye processes images. Information contained in the map guides the laser in customizing the treatment to reshape your eye's corneal surface so that these irregularities can be corrected.

How does CustomVue Laser Correction Work?
The surgeon in one popular method will begin by using the wavefront device to transmit a safe ray of light into your eye. The light is then reflected back off the retina, out through the pupil, and into the device, where the reflected wave of light is received and arranged into a unique pattern that captures your lower- and higher-order aberrations.

All of these visual irregularities are then displayed as a 3-D map, referred to as a wavefront map. This information is then electronically transferred to the laser (in wavefront-guided systems), and computer-matched to the eye's position, enabling the surgeon to customize the LASIK procedure to your unique visual requirements.

Why CustomVue Laser Correction?
Standard prescriptions for glasses, contacts, or traditional LASIK procedures can correct ordinary vision defects such as myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. But other irregularities associated with the eye's optical system could not be addressed until the advent of wavefront and related technology used in custom LASIK.

CustomVue Laer treatment is deemed as the most favorable treatment technique for the correction of visual distortiona called  higher-order aberrations, which can include irregularities other than common refractive errors. These higher-order aberrations can create problems such as decreased contrast sensitivity or night vision, glare, shadows, and halos. However, higher-order aberrations do not always affect vision. Unlike traditional LASIK, custom LASIK treats both lower- and higher-order aberrations.

The Key Benefitts of CustomVue Lasik Correction

  • Greater chance of achieving 20/20 vision
  • Greater chance of achieving better than 20/20 vision
  • Reduced chance of losing best-corrected vision
  • Reduced chance of losing visual quality or contrast sensitivity
  • Reduced chance of night-vision disturbances and glare

The Result
A customized cornea whose optical system has an unparalleled reduction in distortions. This dramatic improvement can mean the difference between just barely reading the small row of letters on the eye chart and reading it without effort. Many patients have reported an improvement in night vision.

With a wavefront measurement system, some extremely precise, individualized vision correction outcomes may be achieved that would be impossible with traditional LASIK surgery, contact lenses or eyeglasses.

INTRALASIK EYE SURGERY- General Info
What is Intralasik Surgery?

Lasik surgery involves two basic steps: creating a corneal flap and reshaping the cornea according to prescription. Traditionally, the corneal flap during LASIK has been created with a microkeratome blade. It is well documented that a large part of the risks and complications from LASIK arise during the creation of the flap. Surgical techniques have been modified and instruments have been refined to improve the results and decrease complications, but nothing has made as significant an impact on improving LASIK as the IntraLase femtosecond laser.

This instrument utilizes an infrared laser and IntraLASIK software to create a corneal flap at a pre-programmed depth and position. As a low-pressure soft suction ring holds the eye, the laser cleaves the corneal tissue at the predetermined depth forming bubbles of water and carbon dioxide at that plane. These bubbles connect to create a smooth surface that will become the interface between the flap and the corneal bed. The laser energy neither alters corneal curvature nor affects the prescription. There is no damage or change to the surrounding tissue.

The obvious advantages of a flap created with IntraLase over a microkeratome are that there is little to no possibility of corneal abrasion, thin flap, thick flap, partial flap, incorrect diameter, or buttonhole flap. No one has ever gone blind or needed a corneal transplant with IntraLase. Furthermore, because the flap is uniform thickness from center to edge (like a manhole cover), there is less chance of flap slippage or wrinkling if accidentally rubbed or bumped during healing after surgery. Also, because the resulting flap is uniform thickness across the diameter, the IntraLASIK is ideal for far-sightedness, high amounts of nearsightedness, large pupils, moderate to high astigmatism, and small corneal diameters where producing a large enough flap for treatment far into the periphery is critical. Yet another advantage is the ability to create a very thin flap so as to maintain optimal corneal thickness when treating higher prescriptions or thinner corneas.

The Advantages of Intralasik Surgery

  • Flap thickness and diameter is programmed on the computer and is very predictable
  • Flap thickness can vary 5 microns
  • Flap thickness is consistent across the flap diameter
  • Flap diameter is very predictable
  • Accuracy is particularly beneficial for patients with
  • Thin corneas preoperatively
  • High degrees of correction
  • Large pupil dilation at night
  • Safer with fewer complications with risk to visual result
  • No significant epithelial injury or damage
  • No free flaps
  • No partial flaps
  • No thin or thick flaps
  • No buttonhole flaps
  • No perforation of the eye
  • Result is either a "perfect flap" or "no flap"
  • Serious vision threatening complications not seen
  • More comfortable
  • Low vacuum
  • No sound during procedure
  • More accurate visual results for some correctio

Revitalize in Turkey Testimonials

I was amazed when I saw my stomache..

I had surgery on Oct 9th through Revitalize in Turkey. Turan and his brother are very caring anf friendly; they looked after me during my stay, taking me to the hospital and for my aftercare appointments with the surgeon. I opted to stay for the full 14 days in Izmire, as i am prone to infection; and wanted to be close to my surgeon. I had wanted a tummy tuck for 30 years, as i had a bad scar that made my stomache look as if i had an extra pair of bosoms. This was due to me having had three caesarion sections and a hysterectomy. The rest of the surgery i had was more a wish list, as i never thought i would be able to afford to have it all done. But i did.I had a full tummy tuck, large amount of loose skin removed from both arms. This was due to muscle atrophy, as i have Fibromyalgia. A mini face lift, lip implant,Turkey Kneck muscle repair, upper eye lids lift, dermabrasion on lips and crows lines on eyes.My surgeon Prof Ahmet Seyhan is a brilliant surgeon and a very nice man his staff are very helpful and friendly. He tells you what surgery you need to achieve the look you want. He wont do something that you dont need or would not be beneficial. For example i wanted Lipo on my upper arms, and he said it wouldnt work as the muscle had died, as the skin would not shrink back; so he advised the arm surgery was my only option. After my surgery i was up and out of bed ten hours later. I had very little pain, it was more discomfort. I was shocked when i first saw my face and amazed when i saw my new stomache. But i need not have worried about my face, as after day 8 it was starting to look normal. My arms were a problem at first, as i was getting electric shocks and fluid build up. Two months later i am thrilled with the results to date. My stomache is flat and looks fabulous, my smokers lines on the upper lip, are gone, i have nicely defined lips, my kneck looks great, my arms are much slimmer and the scars have healed. I am still having some numbness in the face, stomache and one arm, but i was told it takes two-four months to fully settle.

Ann's got a new tum and legs!

I had my surgery of mini tummy tuck and liposuction to multiple areas on 15th November 2007.  I am really pleased with the results even though it has only been a couple of weeks!  The surgeon is absolutely excellent and knows his job thoroughly, he discusses eveything that he is going to do so you are not in any doubt.  Turan is really wonderful, from the time he collects you at the airport to the time he returns you back there for your trip home, he is on call for you and will do everything in his power to make sure you are happy and comfortable during your stay.  I would have no problems recommending Revitalizeinturkey to anybody.

RevitalizeinTurkey should be proud of its achievements...

The company should be proud of its achievements...

My first point of contact with RevitalizeinTurkey was made via Internet. The customer service started immediately, I was encouraged by the fact that my questions and concerns were dealth with in a respectful and sensitive way. For me another important factor was that I was given names and contact number of previous clients with whom I couýld speak and discuss their experiences. I was never of the opinion that information was witheld and I felt no pressure to make my decision. Turan Tuncelli was there right from the start, his support, involvement, empathy and encouragement never faltered throughout the whole 10 days. I was in his company, as a 70 year old woman, this was very helpful to me particularly coming from a young man, where perhaps we would not expect that level of people skill. Turan met myself and my husband at the bus station, taking us directly to the hotel. I already felt comfortable in his company and I knew that this aspect of the process would be alright. Everything was explained in an understandable clear way and if there were any additional questions, Turan was on the other end of the phone. The following day, Turan picked us up at the hotel and we had our first meeting with the consultant at the clinic. Dr. Ahmet Sayhan conducted a comprehensive asssesment of not just my personal health, but I felt he was assesing me as a person, which, I think is very important. Dr. Ahmet, is unlike any other specialist I met before. I liked the way he had eye contact, listened to me and explained everything ind detail, whilst guiding and adivising me on his recommendations. He was never dismissive or evasive. On the same day, I was taken to the hospital and my surgery was performed at the same evening. One of the first things things Turan said to me on first meeting was he would he would be there every step of the way, he was true to this statement bringing my fruit, flowers and goodies to the hospital. The second day after the surgery, because it all went well. Dr. Ahmet discharged me from the hospital and I returned to the hotel. There have been two follow-up visits to Dr. Ahmet since my surgery amnd he is entirely satisfied with my process. I know, without doubt that if I have any concerns or questions, all that I need to do is to pass them to Turan who will liase on my behalf and return with the aswers. Also, I know that if I wanted to have a further cosnultation with Dr. Ahmet, this would not be a problem. I think this knowledge of continuous support is important. Turan Tuncelli should be complimented with on his customer care abilities and his people skills, indeed, everyone I met who are involved in the company of whatever level, have been charming, polite, respectful and helpful and the company should be proud of their achievements.

My Xmas wish - a new face

Posted on Monday, December 24 @ 09:55:51 CST by editor
AN ALTINKUM woman has spoken of the personal tragedies which lay behind her decision to have her Christmas wish granted to look 10 years younger - and to have a full face-lift in Turkey.

Irene Barr, originally from Glenrothes, in Fife, Scotland, spoke exclusively to Voices of the life-changing operation which cost just £3,400 – a snip compared to the £12,000 it would have cost in the UK.

Mrs Barr, aged 59, underwent a full face lift, neck lift, eye lift, lip implants and dermabrasion to the skin at the acclaimed Ege Hospital, in Izmir, three weeks ago and is now on the road to recovery.

She explained that the stress, worry and sadness of seeing seven members of her family, and four of her husband Billy`s family, dying within a 15-year period had taken its toll, and had prematurely aged her.

Mrs Barr, who has three grandchildren aged 18, 12 and 3 years, said: "Every time I looked in the mirror I was seeing the face of my mother. I think the personal sadness in our lives – particularly with my mum and four brothers dying – had taken its toll.

"When we relocated in August to Didim for a new life, I thought I would have a new face. Once I had the consultation with the surgeon, I thought `this is it` and I am going for it. It never entered my head to go back to the UK to have the operation done.

"I researched the issues and went along to a consultation with a surgeon and that was it."

She said:  "I was absolutely terrified before I went into surgery and afterwards I was in shock at my face. But every day I have improved gradually to the point that I am looking younger and it has really boosted my life no end."

She said:  "It wasn`t so much of getting rid of the wrinkles. I wanted to leave the stress and worry of the old life behind. Despite the swellings and everything, I don`t have any regrets.

"But getting a new face for Christmas and the New Year was a perfect wish and one which I had been thinking about as I advanced towards my 60th birthday. I was also self-conscious of my wrinkles and would always cover up my face when I spoke in public.

"But it has given me new found confidence and I am feeling great."

She added: "I would suggest to people who are thinking of having aesthetic surgery and constantly sayd "I wish, I wish", just go ahead and do it. Getting the surgery done in Turkey gave me no qualms or worries at all.

"I felt really at ease with the chosen surgeon and I placed my trust – and my face - in him."

She said she had lost seven members of her family, including her mum, her brother-in-law, her nephew and four brothers, including three to cancer. Her husband had also lost his mum, his brother and sister, and a sister-in-law.

She said the surgery took five hours to complete and immediately afterwards, she was in shock. The retired care worker said: "I just thought "Oh my god" and wanted to get back to looking as normal as possible. My face was three times the size, but the healing process has gone extremely well so far.

"The dermabrasion is the one that makes you look a bit bad but within a week, you begin to heal and there is hardly any pain. Every day I am getting better. "

Dermabrasion is most often used to improve the look of facial skin, or to smooth out fine facial wrinkles, such as those around the mouth.

Her husband Billy said: "To me, Irene looked fantastic before the operation. I did not think she needed surgery. I love her the way she is. After the op I was in complete shock and scared because of the outcome, but she is healing fine."

Tourism in Turkey
Turkey is a land of mystery and deep historical significance, rich in culture and robust in modern infrastructure. Turkey, known as "the cradle of civilization" is acknowledged to be the home of ancient cultures, including the Hattis, Hittites, Phrygians, Urartians, Lycians, Lydians, Ionians, Persians, Macedonians, Romans, Byzantines, Seljucks and Ottomans. Following the decline of the Ottoman Empire, the modern republic of Turkey was founded in 1923 by Mustafa Kemal, known as Ataturk, an army general and World War 1 hero. Ataturk is revered in Turkey and is cited as one of the world's greatest statesmen. "Mosaic" is the best word to describe modern Turkey: its many facets form a picture of great beauty and depth. The Republic of Turkey or Turkey (Turkish: Türkiye), is a bicontinental country that is located mainly in the Middle East (Southwest Asia) and partly in Southeast Europe; The Anatolian peninsula comprises most of its territory, and is situated between the Black Sea on the north and the Mediterranean Sea to south and west, with the Aegean Sea (and Marmara Sea) in between. A small portion of the country's territory (3%) is situated in southeastern Europe, west of the Bosphorus straits.

Climate
Although Turkey is situated in a geographical location where climatic conditions are quite temperate, the diverse nature of the landscape , and the existence in particular of the mountains that run parallel to the coasts, results in significant differences in climatic conditions from one region to the other. While the coastal areas enjoy milder climates, the inland Anatolian plateau experiences extremes of hot summers and cold winters with limited rainfall.

Language
Turkish is the official language. Other minor languages include English, Kurdish, Arabic, Armenian, and Greek.

Religion
99% of the Turkish population is Muslim (Sunni). However, Turkey’s geographic proximity, bridging Eastern Europe and Western Asia, has molded this country into a highly tolerant and adapting civilization

Clothing
Light, cotton summer clothing and cardigans for evening are suggested along the Marmara, Aegean, and Mediterranean coasts. Along the Black Sea, Central and Eastern Anatolia, summer wear, warmer clothing should be taken for cool evenings at high altitudes. Comfortable shoes are necessary for visiting archeological and historical sites. Sun hats and sunglasses are advisable in the summer. Women for visiting mosques should wear headscarves.

Mobile Phones
A Subscriber Identity Module Card (SIM Card) is now available for Turkey and foreign customers who are traveling around. The SIM Card must be used in conjunction with a Digital GSM mobile phone within the 900-MHz range or a Digital PCN mobile phone within the 1800-MHz range.

LEARN ABOUT IZMIR

LEARN ABOUT IZMIR  Known in Turkish as "Beautiful Izmir", the city lies at the head of a long, narrow gulf traversed by ships and yachts. The climate is mild and in the summer theconstant, refreshing sea breezes temper the sun's heat. Behind the palm-lined promenades and avenues, which follow the shoreline, the city, in horizontal terraces, gently ascends the slopes of the surrounding mountains. Izmir is the third largest city in Turkey and its port is second only to Istanbul. A cosmopolitan and lively city all year round, Izmir is especially vibrant during the international Arts Festival (June/July) and the International Fair (August/September).

The original city was established in the third millennium B.C. (at present day Bayrakli), when it shared with Troy the most advanced culture in Western Anatolia. By 1500 B.C. it had fallen under the influence of the Central Anatolian Hittite Empire. In the first millenium B.C. Izmir, then known as Smyrna, ranked as one of the most important cities of the Ionian Federation. During this period, one of the city's most brilliant, Homer is believed to have resided here. The Lydian conquest of the city, around 600 B.C., brought this era to an end, and Izmir remained little more than a village throughout the Lydian and subsequent sixth-century B.C. Persian rule. In the fourth century B.C. a new city was built on the slopes of Mt. Pagos (Kadifekale) during the reign of Alexander the Great. Izmir's Roman period, beginning in the first century B.C., was its second great era. Byzantine rule followed in the fourth century and lasted until the Seljuk conquest in the 11th century. In 1415, under Sultan Mehmet Celebi, Izmir became part of the Ottoman Empire.

Pergamum - General Info
Pergamum

One of the seven churches addressed in Revelation, the city of Pergamum became the center of a large kingdom in the 3rd century B.C. and retained its status as a political and cultural leader into the Byzantine period. The historical pedigree of Pergamum dates back to the founder Lysimachus, one of Alexander’s generals, who chose Pergamum as the depository for his vast wealth, placing here 9,000 talents of gold under the guardianship of his lieutenant, Philetaerus. Pergamum attained a high culture in the Hellenistic era, boasting an outstanding library that rivaled in importance that of Alexandria, a famous school of sculpture and excellent public buildings and monuments of which the Zeus Altar is the best example.

Acropolis
Perched on a hilltop on the plain of Calcus River , the Acropolis stands as the dominant feature of the Bergamum In the centuries before Christ, the kings of Pergamum built palaces and temples on top of the acropolis as the relics of the ancient library with its pillars defying against the time testifies the grandeur of the ancient city Pergamum. One of the librarys specialties was the use of parchment , which takes its name from the city.

Asclepion
Asclepieum was a sanctuary and a healing center built in the name of the god of healing, Asclepius. It was similar to the one in Epidauros in Greece. Although this place was set up in the 4C BC, it had its peak in the Roman period.

Archeology Museum
Bergama museum consists of a large rectangular courtyard surrounded with galleries, and a rectangular exhibition hall behind this courtyard. Most of the archeological opuses in the museum, which belong to various periods from early bronze era to the Byzantine Period have been found in the excavations made in Bergama and its surrounding. Among the findings found in the archaic residences around, the samples belonging to Pergamon sculpture school, Archaic Period findings coming from Pitane and Gryneion, Myrina terracotta draw attention. In the ethnography section, carpets, kilims of the region (Yuntdaðý, Yaðcýbedir, Kozak, Bergama weavings), cloth weaving samples, hand works and other hand made opuses belonging to other regions of Anatolia are exhibited.

Red Baslica
At the southern foot of the acropolis is a large ancient religious complex called the Red Basilica (Turkish: Kizil Avlu). The complex was built during the reign of the emperor Hadrian (A.D. 117–138). Most scholars believe that the deities Serapis, Isis, and Harpocrates were worshiped here. During the Byzantine period it was turned into the Church of St. John. The building measures 200 x 85 ft. [60 x 26 m.] and in some places stands to a height of 62 ft. [19 m.].

Sirince Village - General Info
Sirince (pronounced she-RIN-jay) is a wonderful little Aegean village of 600 inhabitants. It is located in the hills at about 350 meters (1000 ft) above sea level, which means pleasant nights even in hottest July, and in winter some frost and the occasional snowfall. Most of the houses in the village date from the 19th century or earlier. They were built at a time when Sirince was predominantly a Greek village. The village lies in a lovely bowl of hills surrounded by peach orchards, vineyards and olive groves. The higher hills are covered with pine forest. Nearly all houses command a pastoral panorama extending over many miles, undisturbed by any modern development. The surroundings are full of idyllic country walks.
