Why Dental Care in Mexico is a Good Financial Investment
Getting implants placed in a foreign dental clinic hardly equates as a vacation. But yearly, tens of thousands of international travelers go to Mexican border towns such as Tijuana and Los Algodones to avail budget-friendly dental vacations.
Los Algodones, nicknamed as the Molar City, used to be a quaint town 16 kilometers west of Yuma, Arizona. Tourists frequent this now famous dental destination to choose from over 350 dentists to fix major dental work – dental implants, bridges, dentures and root canals with not only one but nearly all teeth on the upper/lower jaw. Dental clinics stay side by side within a few blocks of downtown Los Algodones. Because of budget-friendly packages and fast dental services, most patients take the plunge of getting major dental work done.
Savings of up to 50-80%
"I just had 15 crowns done, and 6 root canals," says *Francis McFadden, a carpenter from Minneapolis. His mouth still bloody but numb from a local anesthetic Procaine. "She (the dentist) went 8 hours straight yesterday, and then today she did a deep-cleaning, and tomorrow I’m all set to replace all 15 crowns with zirconia."
When asked what made him risk going to Los Algodones for major dental work, “Well, it's almost $50,000 back home, and only **$7,880 here, for my crowns, deep cleaning and root canal" he says.
The lower cost of dental care and savings of up to 50-80% is why most Americans and Canadians cross the border for major dental work. Dental care is inexpensive and quicker in Mexico. With so many dental labs adjacent to clinics in downtown Los Algodones, it only takes 1-2 days to get your dentures, bridges and crowns done. You get the same high- quality prostheses and dental services without paying more than your monthly salary. Best of all, you can be assured that all dental materials and procedures are at par with US dental standards.
High-quality dental care in clinics such as Sani Dental Group
It’s not unusual that a long line of patients sit in the hallway of the Sani Dental Group clinic in Los Algodones. Since 1985, Sani Dental Group has delivered 33,000 beautiful smiles with savings that cost 80% or more. Sani has been a member of the American Dental Association and the only clinic in Mexico that has been certified by the Medical Tourism Association.
Dr. Luis Melendez Martinez, one of Sani Dental’s Prosthodontist and Implantology Specialist says, “the most common services patients get done here are dental crowns and implants. Dental procedures here are more affordable. We don’t charge as much because we don’t have a student debt to begin with. Labor costs and rent are cheaper too.”
Dental procedures and treatments offered at Sani Dental are comparable to the US in terms of quality, but treatment costs are considerably lower. The mandatory malpractice insurance required in the US is not required here. A $2,488 dental implant fee per tooth from the US is being offered for only $750 by Sani Dental. If you are dental tourist, you can definitely take advantage of high-quality care and lower dental rates.
"Just a great experience all around!"
Victor Di Biasi from Dallas Texas heard about Sani Dental Group from his cousin and recounts his treatment experience with the clinic. “I never had problems feeling apprehensive about anything. Everybody speaks English. It's great walking around town, the food is good. It’s just a great experience all around!”
When asked about his expenses during his treatment, he says “From what the cost was in the States, it was about 25% of the cost in the States down here. And you don’t have to pay for it all at once,” he suggests. “You just pay for the procedure, and when you come back, you just pay for the remainder. As a matter of fact, the money I saved, I went out and bought a Porsche Convertible, so you can have substantial savings when you come down here, Mr. Di Biasi concludes.
Why you should try it too
Many people like Francis and Victor have tried dental tourism in Mexico because it lets them combine the best of both worlds. Not only are they getting quality and affordable dental services in Mexico, but they are able to experience Mexico as a tourist destination. In Mexico, you can arrange your trip so you can explore and enjoy before visiting the dentist for your dental needs.
The cost savings of the trip make visiting border towns such as Los Algodones worthwhile rather than opting to see a dentist in your hometown. Being able to get low-cost dental treatments and visit an exotic travel destination like Mexico makes medical and dental tourism a practical financial investment and realistic choice.
