You might need an angioplasty again.
ICC - Institute of Clinical Cardiology, Rome, Italy, is now offering a Coronary Angioplasty Package!
Coronary Angioplasty is a minimally invasive cardiological procedure aimed at re-opening stenosis (i.e. partial blockage) of coronary arteries, in order to restore the normal blood flow to the heart. It is performed by introducing a catheter (tube) under fluoroscopic guidance through a small puncture in the patient's arm or leg artery to the heart. Once the catheter is inside the blocked artery, a tiny balloon is inflated in order to open the blockage. This procedure might also require the use of one or more stents: an intraluminal coronary artery stent is a small, self-expanding, metal mesh tube, inserted into a coronary artery after a balloon angioplasty to prevent the artery from re-closing.
Dr. Stefano Tonioni, Director of the ICC - Istituto Clinico Cardiologico - Cardiology Department performs Coronary angioplasty through drug-eluting stents, capable of releasing drugs that reduce the proliferation of the tissue covering the wall of the arteries. He also uses “bioabsorbable” stents, devices which, after being positioned to support the vessel wall, removing the obstruction, are gradually reabsorbed by the tissues through a natural metabolic process.
