What is gastric sleeve surgery?

Gastric sleeve surgery is a type of laparoscopic surgery, which means that no major cuts are made, but only four small holes around the navel. This is a permanent way to lose weight by helping you adopt healthy eating habits. Gastric sleeve reduces the amount of food you used to eat. You will still eat everything, but in smaller portions and more frequently during the day.

Our weight loss surgeon uses a Tri-Stapler stapler (American brand) that makes three rows of assorted staples and staples the stomach on both sides: the one that remains inside and the one that is removed. In addition to the Tri-Stapler stapler, our surgeon performs sutures on the treated area. This provides great strength and prevents the possibility of leaks.

*HOW LONG DOES PAIN LAST AFTER SURGERY?
This varies from person to person, but the pain comes from the gas (carbon dioxide) that is introduced into the abdominal cavity (NOT THE STOMACH) to perform the laparoscopic procedure. On average, the pain lasts 4 hours and patients can reduce gas discomfort by simply walking. For this reason, we encourage our patients to walk as soon as possible (without forcing them) during the first hours after surgery. The sooner you start getting out of bed after surgery, the sooner you will feel relief from abdominal pressure.

*HOW LONG RECOVERY TIME AFTER GASTRIC SLEEVE SURGERY?
After gastric sleeve surgery, most patients can return to work within a week, and some do so within 3-4 days. However, different factors influence how quickly you can get back to work. These factors include:
Type of job: Returning to an office job is very different from returning to a career in construction. The physical demands and level of activity required to do your job will affect the time you need to take off.
General recovery process: Each person recovers differently and at their own pace. Returning to work depends on how your recovery goes and whether you experience any complications that could prolong the recovery process.

Day: A stomach x-ray with medication is taken in the morning. If there are no problems with the surgery (stenosis, leaks, etc.), we start you on water and iced tea the same day.
