Read more detailsChoosing the right breast lift clinic in Colombia involves verifying surgeon credentials, reviewing clinic accreditations, and examining patient testimonials. Prioritize clinics with board-certified plastic surgeons specializing in mastopexy. Look for facilities that offer comprehensive pre-operative consultations and transparent information about their post-operative care protocols and support systems.
When selecting a clinic for your breast lift (mastopexy), it's crucial to go beyond just the price. A reputable clinic will be transparent about its standards and the qualifications of its medical team.
A trustworthy Colombian plastic surgery clinic must be licensed by the local health department (Secretaría de Salud). Its surgeons should be board-certified by the Colombian Society of Plastic Surgery (SCCP). Top-tier clinics often hold international accreditations, like from the AAAASF or ISAPS, signifying adherence to global safety and quality standards for surgical procedures.
Verifying a clinic's credentials is a non-negotiable step for your safety and to ensure a quality outcome. Here’s what to look for specifically:
Clinics in Colombia experienced with medical tourism offer comprehensive packages for international patients. This typically includes virtual consultations, dedicated bilingual coordinators, assistance with travel and accommodation logistics, and structured pre- and post-operative care plans. They ensure a seamless experience from your arrival to your safe departure after recovery.
Colombian clinics popular with international patients understand the unique needs of traveling for surgery. They have refined their processes to make the journey as smooth and stress-free as possible.
Post-operative care at leading Colombian clinics for a breast lift includes multiple follow-up appointments with the surgeon, professional lymphatic drainage massages to reduce swelling, and 24/7 contact information for emergencies. They provide detailed instructions on wound care, activity restrictions, and garment use to ensure a safe and optimal recovery before you travel home.
Excellent post-operative care is just as important as the surgery itself. High-quality clinics in Colombia have a structured approach to your recovery.
Generally, Colombian clinics do not directly accept or bill US health insurance plans for a breast lift, as it's considered an elective cosmetic procedure. Patients are typically required to pay for the surgery out-of-pocket. However, you can request detailed invoices from the clinic to potentially seek reimbursement from your insurer if your plan offers out-of-network benefits.
Navigating insurance for medical tourism can be tricky. Here’s the typical process for cosmetic procedures like a mastopexy in Colombia.
Top Colombian surgery centers adhere to strict safety protocols, including mandatory pre-operative lab tests, the use of board-certified anesthesiologists, and maintaining fully equipped operating rooms with advanced monitoring and emergency equipment. They enforce rigorous sterilization standards and have clear protocols for managing potential complications, ensuring patient safety is the highest priority.
Patient safety is paramount. Reputable clinics in Colombia don't cut corners and follow international safety standards. Key protocols you should confirm are in place include:
To verify a Colombian plastic surgeon's qualifications, check their membership status on the official website of the Colombian Society of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery (SCCP). This is the gold standard for certification in the country. You can also ask the clinic for the surgeon's medical license number (Registro Médico) and professional credentials for verification.
Doing your due diligence on your surgeon is the most important step in your journey. Here’s a simple, effective way to verify their credentials:
Clinics accustomed to serving medical tourists in Colombia typically have bilingual staff, including surgeons, nurses, and patient coordinators who are fluent in English. They ensure that all communication, from the initial consultation to post-operative instructions and consent forms, is clearly understood. Some may also offer professional translation services if needed for total clarity.
Clear communication is essential for a safe and positive medical experience. Here's what you can expect from clinics that cater to an international clientele:
For a breast lift in Colombia, clinics will generally require you to stay in the city for 10 to 14 days after your surgery. This duration allows for essential post-operative check-ups with your surgeon, removal of any drains or stitches, and ensures you are healing well and stable enough for a safe flight home. Your surgeon will provide the final clearance to travel.
Planning your trip duration correctly is crucial for a safe recovery. Rushing home too soon can increase the risk of complications. Here is a typical timeline provided by clinics:
Clinics in both Cali and Medellín are renowned for high-quality plastic surgery. The primary differences often lie in the city's environment and supporting infrastructure. Medellín is known for its modern, integrated medical tourism services, while Cali has a long-standing reputation as a cosmetic surgery hub. Clinic quality itself is surgeon-dependent, not city-dependent.
Both cities are excellent choices, and the "best" one often comes down to personal preference. The quality of your result will depend on the specific clinic and surgeon you choose, not the city they are in.

The care was the best that I’ve ever experienced. All the blood tests and the ECG before the surgery was something I’ve never known before with elective surgery in the past. So sensible! Also the insurance, just in case. Dr Uribe is a treasure! It’s a shame that he doesn’t do hand surgery because I will be back to have my arthritic thumb joints fixed and anything else that falls apart as I age. Even with the highest level of insurance in Australia I was still quoted $4,000 a hand out of pocket 10 years ago.
