Obesity & Metabolic Surgery Center Treatments Offered

Gastric Bypass Surgery

In Gastric bypass surgery, the surgeons make the stomach smaller, then attaches a Y-shaped section of the small intestine directly to the pouch allowing food to bypass part of the small intestine. Having a smaller stomach you will feel full faster than when your stomach was its original size. Also, bypassing a portion of the small intestine means your body absorbs fewer calories This leads to weight loss.

Some facts about Gastric bypass surgery:

  • Can be perfomed either by Laparoscopic Surgery or by the
    traditional "open" technique.
  • It can not be reversed.
  • Expected weight loss:
      35-40% body weight
      50-70% excess body weight
  • Hospitalization period:
      2-3 days
  • Mortality:
      0.5%
  • Possible complications:
      7.5%
      Leaks, stenosis

This is the best option for patients with diabetes and Metabolic syndrome.

Sleeve Gastrectomy Surgery

The Sleeve Gastrectomy is a surgical weight-loss procedure in which approximately 75% of the stomach is removed, the open edges on the remaining stomach are then attached together to form a a sleeve or tube with a banana shape.
After this procedure, the outlet valve and the nerves to the stomach remain intact and, while the stomach is drastically reduced in size, its function is preserved. The stomach continues to function normally, but the quantity of food eaten will be reduced. Also, removing the majority of the stomach reduces considerably the amount of hunger-stimulating hormones being produced.

Some fatcs about Sleeve Gastrectomy Surgery:

  • Can be perfomed either by Laparoscopic Surgery or by
    the traditional "open" technique.
  • It can not be reversed.
  • Expected weight loss:
      30-35% body weight
      50-60% excess body weight
  • Hospitalization period:
      2 days
  • Mortality:
      0,5%
  • Possible complications:
      7,5%
      Leaks

Because the new stomach continues to function normally, and the fact that this procedure does not involve any bypass of the intestinal tract this is a suitable form of surgery for patients already suffering from anemia or a variety of other conditions that would place them at high risk for surgery involving intestinal bypass.

Adjustable Gastric Band

An adjustable gastric band is an inflatable silicone prosthetic device that is placed around the top portion of the stomach. The placement of the band causes the creation of a small pouch at the top of the stomach that holds approximately 30 ml (about 1/8 cup). As the upper part of the stomach registers as full, the message to the brain is that the entire stomach is full and this sensation helps the person to be hungry less often, to feel full more quickly, to eat smaller portions, and lose weight over time.

Some fatcs about the Gastric Band Surgery:

  • This technique is performed by Laparoscopic surgery.
  • The band is fully reversible and does not
    permanently alter the anatomy.
  • Expected weight loss:
      30% body weight
      60-70% excess body weight
  • Hospitalization period:
      1 day
  • Mortality:
      0%
  • Possible complications:
      4%
    Erosions,Slippage, Obstructions

The opening of the band can be increased or decreased easily to achieve the optimal restriction for the patient.

Mini Gastric Bypass

In this procedure, the stomach is divided into a long narrow tube and a separate larger piece. The smaller part of the stomach is attached about 6 feet down in the small intestine.

The smaller stomach decreases the amount of food the patient can eat, while the bypass of a portion of the small intestine reduces the absortion of fat and calories.

Some fatcs about the Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery:

  • Can be perfomed either by Laparoscopic Surgery or by the
    traditional "open" technique.
  • Is not reversible.
  • Expected weight loss:
      30%-35% body weight
      65-75% excess body weight
  • Hospitalization period:
      2 - 3 days
  • Mortality:
      0%
  • Possible complications:
      9%
      Leaks, Biliary reflux.

Intragastric Ballon

The Intragstric Balloon consists of a soft, expandable balloon, the placement tube and a filling system. The empty balloon is inserted in the stomach, then it is filled with sterile saline. When full, the balloon is too large to pass into the bowel and now will float freely in the stomach.

Some fatcs about the Intragastric Balloon method:

  • The intragastric Balloon is endoscopically inserted via them mouth and oesophagus.
  • It's completely reversible.
  • Expected weight loss:
      10% body weight
      35% excess body weight
  • Hospitalization period:
      Same day procedure.
  • Mortality:
      0%
  • Possible complications:
      2%

Patients may experience vomit, during the first days after the procedure.
This procedure is only aimed at providing a temporary weigth loss solution (6 months).

Chihuahua, Mexico Destination Overview

About Chihuahua

Chihuahua City ("chi-WAH'-wah") is the capital city of Chihuahua state - by far Mexico's largest state. With over a quarter of a million square kilometers of territory, Chihuahua occupies nearly 13% of Mexico's total land space. It also shares a long land border with the USA.

The aqueduct in Chihuahua
Although the state capital of Chihuahua provides the eastern terminus of the Copper Canyon train, it has not really been part of the Mexican tourist trail in the past; ignored by some guidebooks and distanced from the cluster of cities in Mexico's colonial heartland, Chihuahua has been overlooked by many people who visited Mexico's other colonial cities. It is nevertheless, a very important city in Mexico: its wealth built on agriculture and industry which still thrive here. It's also one of Mexico’s most important historical centers.

Chihuahua's atmosphere is truly Mexican and deeply patriotic, which adds remarkably to the sense of history found here. Its remoteness from the traditional colonial heartland means that it hosts fewer tourists than its counterparts; although a tour of Mexico's colonial heritage, without including Chihuahua, would be incomplete.

The cathedral Chihuahua's colonial center is filled with handsome colonial buildings, mansions and palaces - most are open to the public - and also has some fine museums, including the ex-houses of two of Mexico's most famous leaders.

Surrounding Chihuahua City are a number of areas of outstanding natural beauty which lend themselves to adventure and eco tourism, something the local government here is actively promoting.

This is a city with an authentic Mexican feel, a friendly atmosphere, important historical significance and a selection of fine attractions. A stay of 1 or 2 nights here, either as part of colonial city tour, an adventure holiday, perhaps as part of a copper canyon train ride, will be rewarded with your discovery of a true hidden gem within Mexico's rich colonial heritage.

Where is Chihuahua located

The State of Chihuahua has over 900 kilometers of border with New Mexico and Texas and is one of the primary gates for trade exchange among Mexico, the United States and Canada

The city of Chihuahua is the capital of the state and its geographical location is privileged.

The city of Chihuahua connects to the United States through Highway 1 -25 ( north-south) And Highway 1-10 (east-west)

Chihuahua has three international flights to El Paso, Houston and Dallas.
