Transurethral Incision of the Prostate (TUIP) is a minimally invasive surgical procedure commonly performed to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a condition in which the prostate gland enlarges and affects normal urine flow. TUIP is typically recommended for men with moderate urinary symptoms or when the prostate size is small to moderately enlarged. The main goal of the procedure is to relieve pressure on the urethra and improve the patient’s ability to urinate comfortably.
During TUIP, the surgeon inserts a thin, specialized instrument through the urethra, eliminating the need for external incisions. This instrument is equipped either with an electric current or a laser device, depending on the selected technique. The surgeon then makes one or two precise cuts in the prostate tissue at the point where it meets the bladder. These incisions reduce the constriction around the urethra, allowing urine to pass more freely. Unlike procedures that remove prostate tissue, TUIP focuses on opening the channel by releasing the tension caused by the enlarged gland, making it a less extensive intervention with typically quicker recovery.
Following the procedure, patients usually remain under observation for a short period to ensure comfortable urination and stable recovery. The total recommended stay in Baku is approximately 4–5 days, allowing time for preoperative assessments, the procedure itself, and postoperative follow-up to ensure the best outcome and safe return home.
