The diagnosis of keratoconus occurs when the cornea of the eye becomes thin and starts to slowly bulge outward into a cone shape. The cornea is the part of the eye that is clear and dome shaped. This situation within the eye creates blurred vision, some sensitivity to light or glare.
Most of the time keratoconus affects both eyes and is usually diagnoses in young people, around the age of 10 to 25 years.
As this situation develops over time the use of special glasses or soft contact lens become less successful as a treatment. Often, if further contact lenses are not successful, a corneal transplant may be indicated to resolve the problem.

One week later after my cataract removal surgery, I felt better than ever! Of course, my eye operation was a total success! To my surprise, now I am able to read small letters without my eyeglasses. I had also discovered how gorgeous are the cities of Istanbul and Ankara! I enjoyed every minute of our city tours! Everything looks clear and the colours are so vivid. Wow! This is what I will miss!
Here is the testimonial of Dave Gotaas from Chicago, US, who had successful eye surgery at Birinci Eye Hospital, in Istanbul, Turkey.
I met Eric, the owner of Ageless Wonders and my doctor Dr. Ilka De Obaldía. The staff and doctors all have such a good relationship that I really felt at home with them. Even the front desk receptionist spoke very good English; better than my Spanish. They were all just wonderful."
