Laparoscopic Gastric Plication

The procedure is performed laparoscopic. The greater curvature of the stomach is separated from the greater omentum using a harmonic scalpel starting approximately 3-5 cm from the pylorus and ending at the angle of His. As needed, adhesions to the posterior surface of the stomach may be transected. At least two rows stitches will be placed laparoscopically about the greater curvature of the stomach starting at or near the angle of His and ending in the antrum. A calibration tube or endoscope will be used to maintain a lumen during the procedure, ensuring one exists after the procedure.

Note: By practitioner

  • Even though it is rare all surgical and anesthetic procedures of any medical specialty are exposed to the possibility of complications depending on the anatomy and preoperational condition of each patient.
  • Any complications will require a longer stay the use of more drugs, the use of other invasive procedures and maybe a surgical intervention.
  • The total cost of the surgery does not include extra hospital expenses in the case of any complications.
  • And our medical team will continue the treatment until the complication is resolved and will not add any more surgeon’s fees to these cases; our work will be doubled to diminish risks.

Note: We are advising people that are planning to have surgery to start taking 1,000 mgs. Vitamin C daily for better healing process.
If you smoke you will have to stop smoking one month before surgery since this highly increases the risk of complications.
Should not take aspirins, ibuprofen or anticoagulants one week before surgery to avoid risks of bleeding.
Start a low carbohydrate diet if you are planning to have surgery done soon.

The length of stay for this procedure is as follows; you have your Gastric Plication Procedure done on day of arrival to
hospital, you stay the next day and are released the following day.
